Their installer noticed two minor flaws, so they had those parts recreated. When done that Lady was thrilled. The mirrored wall had to be replaced because the heat from the Palisades Fire caused the old adhesive to soften, losing its bind, allowing the mirrors to pull away from the wall (breaking, cracking and causing the mirror to discolor(mirror rot). Both areas look great. Fast and reasonable.

Roi, from JRD, was the last one to provide the quote and was the only one out of the four to provide a detailed explanation of what the work would entail and also showed photos of prior jobs and design inspirations. Needless to say, we went with JRD and from the get-go, Roi was responsive and kept us up to date every day. He made sure we were satisfied with the job before considering it closed. If you want a work done by a company who delivers on its promises and keeps in touch with you until the very end, JRD is for you. I initially contacted Yair through Yelp, and he responded immediately to schedule an on-site walkthrough and provide an estimate. The project involved rebuilding an upper main deck, a lower deck, and two sets of stairs using composite materials (Trex/TimberTech). Because of the unique design of the house and lot, all elements were irregularly shaped, so I specifically wanted a true deck specialist. Yair quickly provided a detailed and competitive quote, offered expert guidance on design and construction details, and brought material samples to help with selections. His pricing was the most competitive given the scope of work, and he committed to an aggressive one-month timeline that was my hard deadline to ensure the deck would be completed in time for Christmas holiday parties. Yair's five-person crew arrived on time every day, kept the site clean at the end of each shift, and demonstrated exceptional attention to detail. The workmanship was excellent throughout: hidden clip systems were used for a clean, screwless look across the deck surfaces, countersunk plugs were used along the borders, and all cuts and measurements were precise. As someone who works in real estate development and is very detail-oriented about construction quality, I was extremely impressed with the final result. Additionally, the team went above and beyond by reinforcing the foundation and underlying framing to prevent future settling, rather than relying solely on the original footings that had been compromised by termite damage.     Update 3: Now I'm some secretly disrespectful person (first I'm hearing of my alleged bad behavior)…read morewho plotted all along to take screenshots of our communications (that live in text threads) for deceitful purposes. Please stop updating your responses to change the story and accuse me of some new bad behavior. The texts are our communications, I didn't call you and "press you". There are no other communications. They also speak for themselves. Adding a screenshot of your prior edited comment. Update 2: Last update and lowered my rating from a 2 to a 1 star to reflect the now edited response that no longer says I "haggled" for a faster time and suggests for the first time that the glass didn't break "on its own". So I'm adding a picture of the glass, and another text screenshot where Mike refers to spontaneous breakage and asking the glass company if it's under warranty. Not sure why he's ask them if it was under warranty if it didn't break on its own. Update: I am not surprised that Mike responded. I never "haggled" to get it done sooner. If I had, I'd be pretty bad at haggling for it to take 3.5 months for it to not get done. But as I said, I have receipts. I would not recommend working with Hicks. I have had a series of issues, but held off on a critical review since he would previously try to resolve the issues. I hired Hicks to install a patio railing. The work was done fairly quickly, but after less than a year, one of the cables had fallen off. Hicks came back and repaired it without additional cost, which I appreciated. Next I had Hicks install a glass and wood balcony. I wasn't happy with the quality of the work or the state of the job site, and again Hicks apologized and came back to make it better and clean up the mess. He was at times defensive, but again, I appreciated him fixing the errors. Less than a year after the balcony was installed, a glass panel shattered. There was no impact or area of impact, suggesting it was from a glass manufacturing defect. He told me the warranty on the glass he used was only for 6 months from installation (even for defective glass), so I'd need to pay for a new sheet of glass, but he would install it without additional charge. The glass shattered in mid October. It's now February. Hicks' communication has been really challenging. I pushed and pushed to get it installed and it took months to even get scheduled. On January 9th, the day he was supposed to arrive to install, he didn't show at the agreed upon time, and only later responded after I had reached out about him being a no-show to let me know that strong wind had blown over the replacement glass and it broke. I was very frustrated because this was January and he had initially told me it would be a few weeks to get the glass replaced (which would have been November). Had it been installed in an even remotely timely manner, it wouldn't have blown over and broken. So I asked when the new glass would arrive, he said about a week. I asked him if he could please schedule me for a couple weeks out so we have something scheduled and I wouldn't have to wait months again. He said yes, but didn't actually schedule me. I started messaging a couple times a week with no response - again, said the new glass should be arrive in about a week on January 9th. Yesterday I messaged saying I needed an update, and he told me the whole thing was too stressful and he's not doing it anymore. So I waited 3.5 months for him to replace defective glass that he had offered to replace (with me paying the cost of the glass), and then he just decided he's not going to do it. I was patient and incredibly reasonable through all of these issues, but the defensiveness and failure to communicate and follow through isn't professional. I have receipts for all of these communications.

    I haven't had a good experience with Hicks Exterior Accents. I accepted their offer to build a…read morebalcony and patio cover in January 2024 and as of Dec 2024, 11 months later, the job still hasn't been completed. Mike Hicks and his crew built the small balcony and poles for the patio cover, but left without adding a cover to my patio. I've paid all of the milestones agreed upon, and even advanced part of the material payment, per his request, to get the order placed. Mike said he received the material but it had the wrong color, that he orders directly from China and that he is having issues with the supplier. Every time I ask for an ETA to complete the work, he says he'll get back to me, but he never commits to a timeframe. It's been almost a year of issues and headaches without line of sight as to when or if he will ever complete the work.
