South beach isn't just a beach it's a vibe. Feels like you are at a tropical island but it's Florida! I enjoyed my time walking around here after having lunch at the Versace mansion, which was wonderful. I will make sure to come here each and every time after i depart my cruises just to enjoy the area and food options. We also like all the Cuban spots. Great for drinks !

Nice beautiful beach that part of the Miami coastline.... Wide, great white sand beach, with nice water access, very easy to get in and out of the water, waves pretty calm. Very large beach, plenty of space to spread out. Many of the adjacent hotels along the catwalk will serve drinks to the beach. Biggest negative is the cost, very expensive to hang out here, umbrella and chairs rentals get top $$! Great place to walk through, even if you don't hang out there!

Live swimming with Lemon sharks here. What a great experience. It's funny, people yell "Shark in the water" but over here having a good time haH

Take in the waves, a drink and always splurge on the cabana. The sun is no joke and spots fill up fast. The cabana was set up for me just feet from the water. It was so peaceful and semi secluded that I took a nap.

If you're a tourist, South Beach is probably one of the reasons you're here. The actual beach is really wide and they keep the sand well-maintained. You can enjoy an expensive meal and gigantic drinks at one of the many places along Ocean Dr. You can check out some cool art deco buildings and Versace's mansion. You can shop at stores that they have all over the US but for some reason people feel the need to buy a giant suitcase and stock up here. All jokes aside, I have a soft spot for SoBe. I'd recommend exploring all of South Beach. There are some cool spots off the beaten path. And you absolutely must people watch.

South Beach is a part of Miami Beach and among the popular tourist spots and destinations in Miami. Home of art deco architectures and buildings, beautiful beaches, diverse dining scene and restaurants, designer and souvenir shops, bars and night clubs. Popular entertainment and sports celebrities frequents this place too, with models and supermodels photoshoots and walk the runway shows especially during the Miami Swim Week. South Beach is also a favorite among movie producers and film makers as multiple hit movies and Indie films were filmed here. Some of the movies were Scarface by Al Pacino, The Birdcage by Robin Williams, Miami Vice, Bad Boys, There's something about Mary and 2 Fast 2 Furious. It is also a favorite venue for events like New Years Eve celebration, 4th of July celebration, Food and Wine Festival, Art Basel, Miami Swim Week, GumBall, Memorial Weekend Celebration, Military Air and Sea Show, Concerts, Television and Radio stations Beach Bash, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition launch, Music Week Pool Parties and many more. Aside from swimming, health buffs and fitness enthusiasts go to South Beach for their daily jog, run, walk, dog walking, riding bicycles, rollerblading, and skate boarding. There is also a muscle beach gym for the hardcore weightlifter and bodybuilders, and a more low profile, less intensity workout machines for beginners, young and older people. Restrooms are strategically located along the board walk so there's always a restroom within a few blocks. Water fountains and shower stations also. You can also play volleyball by the beach with their beach volleyball courts. South Beach is a perfect vacation spot with a lively atmosphere, rich culture, diverse community, pristine beaches, bustling nightlife and dining scene. I'm lucky to really live in a place where people vacation. Check it out!

Beautiful beach, nice and clean, white sand beaches and plenty of room to spread out.

SoBe, A truly nice place when you have a lot of money and you dont mind spending it just for the clout. I being a Miami Native know that there are better places where you get a bang for your buck. It is nice and the beach is beautiful both day and night time. I wanna say do not got to the beach (even if open) at night because police does canvas the area after dark so be careful. You will get a ticket or court appearance and if you're caught doing the nasty beware of jail time. Now that's out the way please enjoy responsibly. Park your car at public spaces or check for signs because they tow very savagely there. I know there is not much of what used to be but truly ocean drive is the best place to roam freely in SoBe. I suggest 11th street and down when it is really late night. The homeless and junkies here are out of control. Be safe!

I have been to South Beach many times. It is a great place to relax and for late night fun. South Beach (or SoBe) is the southern portion of Miami Beach. The first time I visited here, I was here for a week and enjoyed eating at a few of the dining establishments. The food here in South Beach is amazing. I also took in some of the nightly entertainment after grabbing some food. There is a lot to see and do here. Another time that I was Miami, I rented a convertible and drove down Ocean Drive. The weather was perfect and I enjoyed taking in the Art Deco buildings that I drove by. The scene here is very glamorous as many wealthy people own property around the beach. It is also very diverse. South Beach has a number of outdoor cafes, art galleries, fashion stores and gift shops. Even though it can be very touristy and traffic can get a little crazy at night, South Beach is always a fun time. I have enjoyed a couple of relaxing days on Miami Beach in the past. I love the palm trees and the cool ocean breeze around South Beach. The sand is white and the water is crystal clear with large waves. I have been here in the Fall and in the Summer and it is always sunny here. They have chairs, umbrellas and cabanas for rent if needed. South Beach is a beautiful beach for both adults and children to enjoy.

Miami Beach is the quintessential tropical paradise, where the sun shines almost year-round, making it a prime destination for beach lovers. Its wide stretches of soft, white sand invite visitors to relax, while the warm, clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean provide the perfect setting for swimming, water sports, or simply cooling off under the sun. There are free shuttles to take you to different parts of the beach as well as amazing Cuban restaurants.

The water here is beautiful. It's a steep decline i could see 6 ft men like 2 ft out and up to their shoulders. I can't swim so I didn't go in. It's a clean beach and nice. There is a park with lots of people playing volleyball. Tons of hotels, food and shops. It felt safe and fun. Highly recommend

To dodge the intense crowds and traffic, we visited in the evening & loved it!!! Aquamarine water lapped the shore of soft, white sand! Art-Deco lifeguard towers with pastel colors and unique shapes dotted the beach. During our stroll, we passed by Muscle Beach, a workout destination for calisthenics, weightlifting, and more. On Ocean Drive, we walked between neon lit palm trees and a lively sidewalk of restaurants and nightlife.  Any beach bum would love this place! Whether it's sitting back and relaxing, wining and dining, or exercising, the possibilities of unwinding here are endless. I'd come back during the day to have a picnic, ride a bike, or frolic in the water :)

Ask the Community - South Beach

Is there showers at the beach?

There are showers to rinse the sand and saltwater off your body. Don't try to bring body wash & a loofah with you.

Is there somewhere near 12th street to rent an umbrella and beach chairs?

Yes. You will see vendors on the beach that have them for rent. Enjoy.

Is there umbrella and beach chair rental at Miami beach?

Yes. There are several vendors on the beach. Typical cost for two lounge chairs and umbrella is $40.

Where is a good hotel to stay for two days on south beach in Miami?

Lowes on South Beach. Definitely NOT Metropole!!!

Is South Beach topless and/or clothing optional in any part of it?

I have lived in South Beach for 11 years and the beach has been topless for at least 30 years. Haulover, 20 minutes to the north is nude. Going topless is not mandatory of course and for the Moms out there, if you are worried your 14 year old boy… Read more

It was established in 1896 and began with a pavilion and green space used for sports activities. The park was also used for political and religious gatherings near the railroad tracks and tidal marshes. In 1922, the city constructed a retaining wall to create a formal park. Warren Manning, who had worked for Frederick Law Olmsted Sr., was commissioned for the design. The 62-acre park officially opened in March 1925 and included pathways, tropical landscaping, and a wide pedestrian promenade that extended from East Flagler Street to the bay. The 1926 hurricane destroyed much of the park. A year later, the city installed a bandshell, a grotto, and a rock garden on the waterfront. During World War II, the U.S. Navy took over the park and used it as part of its critical operations in the area. In 1943, the Navy installed the Dade County War Memorial. The military returned the park to the city in 1950, but it was in a battered state. The city built a library that blocked the view of the bay, and the following two decades saw little investment in the park. In 1980, the City of Miami approved a budget of $10 million to redesign the park. Famous Japanese-American modernist artist and landscape architect Isamu Noguchi was chosen for the task. His inspiration was to create a village green for downtown Miami. He convinced the city to remove the R.C. Gardner Bandshell, which had fallen into disrepair, as well as the library, and to restore Manning's pedestrian promenade. His plan also called for adding new amphitheaters and a large fountain at the end of a promenade flowing from East Flagler Street. The busts and statues of Hispanic leaders were relocated to an area outside the park. Eventually, the project ballooned to more than $40 million, much of it paid for through grants. Noguchi passed away during the construction of the park, but the torch was passed to his longtime collaborator, Shoji Sadao, who carried out his plans and vision. Today, Bayfront Park is maintained by the Bayfront Park Management Trust, a limited agency of the City of Miami. It is smaller than when it originally opened and currently encompasses 32 acres. A highlight of the park is its stunning views of Biscayne Bay. The park is also a culturally important outdoor museum, with art and monuments that add beauty and historical perspective. The Dade County War Memorial was restored in the 1990s, and there are statues honoring Claude D. Pepper and Julia Tuttle, the "Mother of Miami." The park still contains all of the major elements of the Noguchi plan, including the centerpiece fountain, although it is currently closed for repairs. It also features the Lee and Tina Hills Playground, open lawn spaces, a sandy beach area, the tropical rock garden, and the historic waterfall from 1926. A visit to downtown Miami would not be complete without a stop at Bayfront Park. The park is within walking distance of attractions such as the Freedom Tower, Bayside Marketplace, Kaseya Center, Museum Park, and numerous restaurants and entertainment venues. If there is a downside, it is that parking in downtown Miami is scarce and expensive. I have attended many outdoor concerts here through the years, and it is also the site of the popular Ultra Music Festival every March. In June, the park will host the FIFA Fan Festival when Miami welcomes the World Cup. A recent visit found me admiring the many sculptures throughout the park. Bayfront Park is still evolving, and future plans call for new lighting, a café, and additional redesign elements. Known as "Miami's Front Porch," it remains a vital outdoor oasis of green space for residents of the surrounding towers and visitors to the city alike.
