Pros: the parking is incredibly convenient if you arrive early or on a weekday and find a spot. There are also bathrooms that are an easy walk from the beach and the beach is right next to the parking lot, so it's an easy walk. You can also bring your dog. Cons: the water isn't as nice as the coast and you don't get the waves because it's in the bay. (On the other hand, this area would be better for paddleboarding.) You can also hear the cars going by because of the proximity to the causeway, so it isn't as relaxing as some other beaches. read more

The beach is really nice. It's a great spot to come relax, away from the noise in Miami. It has great views of the causeway, miami skyline, and port. It is completely free. The big cons are that it can be really hard and annoying to find parking and there is only one bathroom all the way at the beginning of the beach. read more

The hubby and I wanted to stop in at the beach quickly before heading out Gramps for beers on a Sunday. We haven't been to this beach in over a decade. We haven't seen the construction but never stopped in. We were able to find some parking as soon as going into the lot. We brought out our chairs and were able to sit in the water for a bit. Hobie Beach is one of the few dog friendly beaches in Miami and is FREE. The section of the beach we were at was clean, and we did not see garbage lying around. Parking is free but limited. We didn't have to wait too long for someone to leave and move their car, but we were also there on a weekday afternoon, granted it was MLK day. There was also a portable restroom trailer on site. For some reason, I thought they were going to be clean and luxurious like the ones I've been in before, but these were really gross and dirty. read more

I been coming here so often during the pandemic either after work or on weekends, am glad to finally give this area a long overdue review! This location is a quick getaway from concrete surburbia of heat and oppresive humidity offering relaxing times by the water with small strips of beach.   If you want a quieter side, choose the west side with more parking but small strips of beach just before crossing the huge causeway bridge.  You can rent kayaks, paddleboards and more but are relegated to a paddle up ans down the beach without much to explore.  I believe there is one or two arepa / sausage stations. For more hustle n bustle go ahead to the east side just over the bridge but be very patient as there is barely if any available parking and people are waiting in their cars for aa spot to open up.  There are two lots on this side just before Miami Seaquarium. There is much more beach on this side but is much more packed with people, pets, tens, big speakers and more!  there are also more food and drink serving stations here as well.  Obviously the views on this side are more sublime espescially with large boats / yachts anchored in the bay.  I often get out here due to jogging the Rickenbacher bridge and watching everything this parardise has to offer.  After almost 2 hours of jogging walking it is certainly refreshing to pull out my beeach chair, have a mocktail and relax,  sometimes catching a sunset.  As for today it's still nice here at 3pm while looking westward with all the ugly dark storms brewing out there.  LOL, I escaped another stormy afternoon. Although this place has free parking, the main drawback is the lack of parking especially on the east side where it is preferrable.  So bring patience if you bring gear as you cannot hike with you gear from the west side over the bridge.  The main reason for 3 stars. read more

Hobie Beach, or as some call it - Dog beach - is my go-to place on weekends for a relaxing and scenic run. It has great views of Miami, the ocean, and Biscayne Bay. Located on the island of Key Biscayne, parking can be a little bit of a mission as this place does get popular! That being said it's totally worth it to come here for a run, walk, bike ride, dog walk, or just to enjoy the sunshine. The bridge is the biggest and most iconic spot here right next to the beach and where you'll see the biggest congregation of people and the best of views at the highest point. read more

There are no chair or umbrella rentals available but there are several palm trees on the beach you can set up under. I think it's ludicrous that this beach is called Dog Beach - Trash Beach would be a more fitting name. There's so much garbage, seaweed, glass, and litter lying around that it's not safe for you or your dogs. The free parking doesn't compensate for these safety hazards, and I doubt Hobie Beach ever gets cleaned. The only good thing is being able to lie on a towel and enjoy the view when the weather is nice. Although the water is mostly shallow and the warm and cold currents are nice, there's just too much disgusting stuff floating around in the water and on the sand to truly enjoy it. I really wish there was law enforcement nearby to hold those responsible for the damage accountable. In any case, I suggest going to another beach because there are better options available. read more

We just visited this beach May 2023 and would recommend this beach for one reason.. I love that there were some shaded spots if you didn't want to be in direct sun. However, there are some things to know about the beach. The sand had beer caps everywhere, as well as cigarettes butts. Not a very clean beach. Also they only had bathrooms on the far ends of the beach. I didn't see a shower but there could have been one, somewhere. Lots of very pricey food options that also allowed you to buy alcohol. read more

Nice little spot, just off the causeway! Parking is free... but good luck finding a spot during popular days/times. Even with the parking being somewhat "luck of the draw", I didn't stay long because it wasn't the greatest place to really relax & enjoy. Very populated, and the water isn't exactly your lush, tropical blue swimming appeal. There are usually vendor stands selling lemonade, water, hot dogs, etc... and the ice cream truck frequents. But, it is pretty crowded. The sand is nice, but the waterfront isn't really ideal for swimming or wading in this area, as it is overwhelming seaweed & debris washing in with the tide. I didn't take my flip flops off because it isn't exactly where you want to walk barefoot in the water OR on shore. Still, plenty of people in AND out of the water enjoying! So, maybe I just didn't find the "good" spot or stay long enough? I just prefer the beach park area at Crandon a few miles up the road. You have to pay to park there, but I feel like it is well worth the cost to enjoy more of your pristine, serene beach experience. This, specific & free parking access area is more your quick stop... head down the road & pay for parking at the actual parks & recreation area if you want a GOOD, more pristine beach experience with less crowd & better waterfront. read more

Here's the deal; you want to take your dog to the beach in Miami? Then this is where you go. Would I recommend it? NOT EVER. But in South Florida, dog beaches are scarce. The next one is in Hollywood and unfortunately for dogs, it is only open for them Friday-Sunday 4:00-8:00pm and it costs $10. The $10 is fine, it's the ridiculous hours that make it impossible for us to visit. We parked at the very end (across the street from MAST Academy) and walked the beach from the tip (right by the Miami Seaquarium) to the center. How anyone can come to Hobie Beach for anything other than to bring their dog for a quick visit is unfathomable to me. And even still, I won't EVER bring my dog here again. It's absolutely disgusting. There was a minimum of one piece of trash for every square foot we walked. At one point, my dog ate a muffin liner before I could get to him. A freakin JUMBO muffin liner. What is wrong with people?? There were plastic bottles, pieces of glass, bottle caps, plastic bags, Dorito bags, rotting fruit, and of course dog poop EVERYWHERE. Why was so much money spent on improving the parking lot if the main attraction was going to be completely neglected? Why aren't there any posted signs with rules and regulations (regarding dogs, trash and prohibited items such as glass), why aren't there any waste baskets closer to the beach? Why is this beach OBVIOUSLY never cleaned up? There is one trash can every 10 feet IN THE PARKING LOT. Thats a lot. Sadly, no one but my fiance and I are going to make the walk to the receptacle to dispose of their trash. It's the truth. Being a dog beach, one would expect to find at least one poop bag dispenser but there wasn't a single one. Luckily, I brought my own. I'm assuming rarely anyone else does by evidence of poop piles across the beach. Imagine all the piles I couldn't see buried beneath the sand millimeters away from my toes as I walked with my dog. People sunbathe here? Wait...people actually swim in this murky, filthy sewage water? We got out feet wet only to encourage our dog to come into the water. But we were practically gagging the whole time. I doused my feet in antibacterial afterwards and bathed my dog right away. I felt gross. The area on the North side of the highway wasn't any better. It was polluted with plastic bags and beer caps. This place is an embarrassment to Miami and to Key Biscayne. I don't know if I'm more upset or disheartened. Right now I'm just pissed off that I can't leave anything but a negative review regarding something that meant so much to us. read more

We live in Broward and since we have discovered this place, we have been coming for over a year now. It's Miami, so for those that are used to Broward, it might not be for you. Overall, we have no complaints. The beach is clean, there's a garbage can give or take about 50ft apart from each other. There's places to rent kayaks and paddleboards. Most people are friendly and keep to themselves with their dogs. You can't beat free parking and free beach, something we don't usually find in Broward. read more

Not good. Not good at all. I've never been to this "beach" (if you can call it that) and I will never go again. Seriously, don't go. I repeat: *especially* if you're planning to take your dog, change your mind and opt for a day at Kennedy Park instead. Here's why: Literally two feet of sand connect the parking lot to the shoreline, and the sand is infested with inch-long chips of broken beer bottles and other glass parts. You can't take your shoes off unless you want to get sliced up. Also buried in the sand is miscellaneous trash, including what looked like old chicken wings; really could have been anything as I didn't get a close enough look before my dog devoured it. YUCK. We weren't there longer than 5 minutes before we decided we'd never go in the dirty water and really didn't want to stay. The only perk to this place is free parking, but it's a wash after paying for the Rickenbacker toll. Not good. Not good at all. read more

Spent some time on Saturday morning at Hobie Beach. Quality Hobie Beach would probably be better described as a dog park and recreation area. The simple fact is there is not much beach at all and the little beach that does exist is covered in lots of seaweed and more garbage than any beach should be covered with. At high tide there is not even enough room for a person to lie on the beach. However, despite the lack of beach the shallow and remarkably clean water makes it a nice spot for recreational activities. Quantity Even though the beach is far from great it still draws a pretty big crowd so finding a spot is not easy. Even in the water real estate is tough to come by because it is a perfect spot for many of the more laid back water activities. Value So with everything wrong with it why even bother coming. Well unlike every other beach along Biscayne there is no additional cost beyond what you pay at the toll. So for locals or those not looking to walk or park far to the beach, it is cost efficient and close. Ambiance Hobie Beach is the first set of beaches that you come to once you pass the toll on Key Biscayne. The South side has the beaches the north side is a more park-like. The view South of Coconut Grove and the water is absolutely gorgeous. It is when you look down at the beach itself that it loses its appeal. Since you are not paying a fee you sacrifice the fact that no one is really cleaning up often and coupled with allowing dogs, you are left with a very gross beach. You also have to know that without patrols there are few rules followed as dogs roam free, music is blasted, and beer bottles litter the area. But if you look straight out or go into the water many of these problems go away. Crowd Absolutely some of the worst people you will meet in Miami are at this beach. Don't be surprised if an unleashed dog with no owner in sight makes his way right to you. The same can also be said of small children. There is no sense of personal space because what little area you can find will be quickly caved in by other larger, louder, and more obnoxious people. Service It really is surprising that Miami hasn't done anything to try and remedy this beach. It could be something special, but instead it is left unsupervised and unclean. Parking It may take a minute, but there are usually spots even at its peak right next to the beach. Usually you have to walk a bit from where you park to find a clear spot to sit though. Extra The only real reason to go to this beach is if you plan on going on a paddle-board or wind-board or do some other recreational activity that requires shallow water. Even though it is dog friendly I would not recommend bringing a dog because of all the other untrained and unleashed dogs. read more

This weekend was the first time we went as a family to Hobie Beach. We took our dog, Raiden, too. It was great to see him lap about. There are some coconut trees to add a bit of shade and parking is very comfortable. There are a few hot dog vendors if you're into those sort of snacks. The sand has a lot of rocks and I would recommend water socks if you don't like the feeling of sea plants under foot. It is possible to snorkel there, but the water is a bit murky. It is one of the few beaches in Miami that allow pets, so try to take fido along, ok? read more

Geez, read the name folks! Its called Hobie Beach for a reason....if you take your dog on your Hobie, even better! Altho at the top they say South end-north side, Hobie Beach is across the Rickenbacker on the south side. Very easy launch and can usually see some great "flying" and, if you listen, you can sometimes hear the eerie Hobie Howl.... read more

It's okay I went mostly to take my pup out, I would never ever swim there though the water is very dirty it does the job for taking out your dog but I wouldn't go there for a swim nope, overall the area is very clean and plenty of free parking which is nice. Took my puppy there today for her first trip to the beach as it was walking distance to where we live only to be extremely disappointed. This should not even be called a beach. The water and shore line is thoroughly disgusting. There were tonnes of litter and dead seagulls (skeletons, decomposing) that were all over the shore. The water was murky and brown with lots of broken glass, broken coral, seaweed. Thank god I had my eye on my puppy as she was sniffing around the dead birds. Not sure what the reason for the dead birds were but I know I will never be going back to this place again. I am surprised that people would actually go there to bathe or relax it is so disgusting.
