The owner is a complete lunatic, he didn't like My mask, got really close to my face.. he was one inch away from my face, examining my mask. I stood up for myself, respectfully, saying that this is the only mask I feel comfortable breathing in. But he was rude, called me names, made up things, saying I have been giving his stuff a hard time all day ( I literally just got there), saying I am putting people in danger. I also must add- it's the end of March 2022. Literally, only 5 % of people ware masks in TX. What an angry, rude, obviously oxigen depleted human. With my whole heart, I feel sorry for him, I hope he gets outside to breath. This was a a very bad experience for me. I went there for the first time and ask Wally to not leave me alone for too long and that often I was overstimulated by the needles. He ignored that and I was overstimulated, like a caffeine overdose, and he did not come and check on me. Finally I took needles out, paid foolishly, and left. Could have been better, felt he didn't listen and he left me alone in large room with people and I could not scream out for him to come as I would have disturbed the others. Professional, affordable, and effective. I have visited south Austin community acupuncture on and off for about the past three years. I have had nothing but incredibly considerate and attentive care. Every time I visit, I always wonder why I haven't gone sooner! Each visit begins with a follow-up/consultation followed by cupping. Cupping sessions tend to last ten minutes before you are redirected to the community room where you recline and receive acupuncture via needles. They will ask you what time you need to wake up and leave by, or allow you to snooze away as long as necessary. By the time I wake up, (typically anywhere between 1 hour - 2 hours), I feel so relaxed I can only describe my state of being like an al dente noodle that has melted into the couch (sounds ridiculous, but seriously, so relaxed, haha.) The acupuncture has proved especially helpful for my TMJ during times of stress. My only complaint is that the last time I visited, they had window washers who were incredibly loud and banging on the windows. It woke me up, but I heard someone go outside and ask them to please be quiet. I couldn't go back to sleep, but it is in no way their fault. I found this place last week when I was looking for relief from vertigo, after going through several conventional doctors who couldn't find a solution for me and kept giving me expensive runaround. As an unemployed person who has been searching for a job for some time now, my finances were tight and my stress was high. I came across this place through a google search because I had experienced community acupuncture before and I liked the simplicity and affordability of such places. I made an appointment for the next day and showed up to find a clean and calming office space. You fill out some forms for the first time and then there is a consultation to discuss your goals and challenges. Then you're led into a large room that has nine comfortable recliners. These recliners are covered by thick blankets so they are replaced for each client (meaning: clean for you). You sit back and let them work their magic. They are happy to drape you with a cozy blanket if you get cold easily. When you are ready to go (or after a set amount of time during busy hours), they'll take out all the acupuncture needles and you just need to pay and be on your way. They do have cupping services and private rooms. I haven't experienced them so I'm not sure how they work. You can call or email and ask about it. Wally was easy to work with and warmed up with me the more I came. I saw some reviews where Wally or his team members didn't really acknowledge clients when they came in. I got the vibe that it was more of, "I'm not ready to talk," as perhaps they had clients that took up a lot of their time in the past (perhaps took advantage of or challenged them) and created a backlog of other clients who were waiting and being patient. I'm so grateful for Dr Sarah, I got a frozen shoulder from a shoulder injury that occurred in June, I was told it could take from 6 to 2 yrs plus to heal, I was recommended surgery, I was told 7 sessions with a chiropractor would heal it, I was told many things and ways to heal my frozen shoulder. Oh Wally. I'm a cedar allergy sufferer. Like little cedar aliens crawl into my skull, inhabit my brain and create life there, until the pollen decides it's done with its mating season. I've been dying with this alien party in my brain, and have become desperate. This morning I searched blogs on remedies that could assist.. cause I have already tried the Alavert, Nasacort, Benedryl police-- but those aliens, didn't want to stop the party. Lo and behold, the recommendation of Acupuncture. When I'm not hosting alien parties in my brain, I'm probably being cynical. To the point of -- I'm never going to give this holistic stuff a try-- it's gotta be hooey and a money scam. But wait-- the South Austin Community Acupuncture is on a sliding scale-- so maybe it's not about the mula? I schedule a same day appointment- ONLINE. When they are CLOSED! Time rolls around for my appointment and I walk in papers in hand, and barely breathing. I meet Wally, who I immediately have a nerd crush on.. maybe simply cause he has a strong voice-- or he is about to work his magic... we sweet talk about ailments-- and lord I have some from being active Army for 8 years. Wally is impressed by this-- and I see a little love returned.. but I digress. We move into the cupping phase of my appointment. I've had a crick in my shoulder for a while, and Wally asked if I knew what cupping was. Why sure! The entire USA Olympic team was sporting those marks. So Wally cups me gently.. and leaves. It's warm and inviting-- but lots of recliners and ladies with pins sticking out of them in various locations. Wally pricks me.. and all I feel is pressure-- no pain except one in my face, which was a slight tinge. Wally put pins everywhere and I feel like I'm a porcupine superhero. Except-- I suddenly feel as though I am high.. like stoned-- and just want to melt into my chair and close my eyessssss mannnn. Alright alright alright.. these babies have some sedative juices flowing! As I lay there with my newly formed high, I start to cough.. a lot. And that's odd cause everyone around you is in chill mode. I realize that aliens are vacating to a new landing spot.. and I'm choking on the down slide. Finally, I get it under control, wishing I had some water to subside the little burn... and another woman who has the same pins in her face also stars to cough her head off. Wally has done his magic, and her aliens have left her brain too. Now I'm home-- and for the first time in 5 days-- I can breathe. I still have alien drainage going on.. but I don't feel like death is upon me, and there may be one Cedar alien hanging out on my brain beach-- but he will get lonely and leave one day. I was a bit hesitant to try a community setting, but I dated an acupuncturist for some time and he told me I should give it a try. And I'm forever thankful and grateful. I go once a week to alleviate intense and disruptive symptoms of stress caused by a rigorous and high-pressure career. It took regular visits, but with no other methods used for results, the acupuncture helped completely eliminate the symptoms. So I did what any highly reasonable (and shortsighted) person would do and I stopped going due to a lack of time to commit. After 6 months or so, the symptoms (of course) came back and I'm back at it again, knowing that I'm in extremely talented and magical hands. Everything about my regular experience here has been lovely. Wally is wonderful, as are the other acupuncturists on staff. They truly care about giving you the best help possible and allow you to stay as short or as long as you want for treatment. They also perform cupping and have a range of herbal remedies. The cupping is lovely and though I've purchased some herbs, I'm horrible at taking pills and can't attest to their effectiveness. Definitely not a doctor's best patient over here... It's a clean, relaxing setting with about 10 super comfy recliners. They offer you a pillow and blankets and make sure you're set to get the full experience of the treatment. I can't say enough about the healing properties of this practice and I'm so thankful they are a resource to make it affordable to go on a regular basis. I can go 4x a month for what I would spend for 1-2 visits at a fancy place. I honestly get the same results here as I would paying more for a private room someplace, but you guys, I promise you. I'm conflicted about this 2 star rating. Positive: their existence makes acupuncture affordable. The community room was a comfortable temperature and had the right lighting and soft music to help ease my anxiety. But also... Wally's mantra just might be SAFETY THIRD. 10 min: the amount of time I waited before I was greeted by the receptionist 20 min: the amount of time that passed from my 1:30 appointment time until I saw Wally 2 min: how long he spent doing an intake after it has been approx. two years since I have been to the clinic 1: the number of questions asked about my pregnancy ("how far along are you?") 0: writings created of my answers about said symptoms. In fact, my chart was nowhere to be seen. No questions about anything else -- not the standard pooping, sleeping, heart rate, tongue indications. After putting in 10-15 needles, he asked if I have any time constraints. No, I say, and he replied he will check back on me. At 2:20 he came into the community room and treated another patient. (He did their intake in the community room: I learned they recently had a cyst removed and suffer from TMJ. Thanks for sharing!) I figured he would have me stay another 5 minutes for a total of 30 minutes; I'm guessing because this is not something we discussed. Unlike my last clinic, they don't give you a bell to ring in the event you feel uncomfortable. I'd had my eyes open from 2:25 forward. At 2:45, which was 45 min after inserting my needles, he approached me. He knew he had F'ed up and said a one word apology. Even in the reception area as I was paying, there was no discussion of how he could have done better. Been more attentive. Made me feel safe. Wally, your website says you are the president of the state board. I'd expect more. If you had asked me, you would have learned that my pregnancy is expected to end at any moment. That this is my first session since becoming pregnant. That I have sciatica and it hurts to be on my back. That I suffer from anxiety and sitting still for longer than 20 min exhausts me. Before your clinic, I was a 6+ year veteran of community acupuncture. You've made me question its value. read more

I appreciate the ease of getting acupuncture services here... I sign up for an appt online (usually there are same-day ones available), talk to the practitioner, and then sit back with needles in me for an hour-ish. Does it hurt when the needles go in? Yes, but only briefly, like getting a low-key shot. I was initially a little wary of being treated in a room of other people, but it's not a big deal... the recliners are really comfortable, you get a blanket, and everyone minds their own business. Clients do get up or come in occasionally, but I haven't found it to disturb my session. The price is the best aspect... sliding scale and very affordable. Practitioners are usually short and sweet in their interactions, but I've found that they know what they're talking about and have offered Chinese herbs that are helpful. This place is fantastic!! After a week of extreme neck pain - probably from sleeping wonky or lifting my baby funny - I decided that ibuprofen, magnesium oil, heat, cold, kinesiology tape, and arnica just weren't cutting it. I still could not turn my neck & relief was nowhere in sight - or so I thought. I decided that I'd give in and either see an acupuncturist or a chiropractor. The chiropractor had a long waiting list, but South Austin Community Acupuncture had openings immediately! I scheduled an appointment with Christanne online. Upon arriving to the office, i was greeted by the super friendly gal at the front desk. I filled out some paperwork and was taken into a private room soon after. At that point, Christanne decided the best route would be fire cupping and some acupuncture points on my back/neck. The cupping was such a cool experience and Christanne was sure to explain the process. After about thirty minutes, I was taken into the 'big room', where I received more acupuncture. I think my appointment lasted almost 2.5 hours, which was amazing. So relaxing!! There were eight comfy chairs in the 'big room'. When I began my acupuncture, there were two other clients in the office. By the time I left, all of the chairs were full. Pricing: Each session costs between $20-$40 depending on the amount you are able to pay. There is an additional $10 cost for your initial appointment. I have had a good amount of acupuncture in Austin, and I have learned it takes a specific acupuncturist to really ignite the juicy "zombie like" state that acupuncture can bring... (note: a peaceful "zombie"-- minus the hunger for brains). I think this place is really special because it allows broke college kids like myself have access to something really useful and healing. I am grateful for acupuncture because it is one of the most instantly affective natural treatments for depression and anxiety that I have ever found (and I have tried it all). The setup may seem awkward in your minds eye: a room of people in lounge chairs being stuck with needles... but I assure you the setting is tranquil, non invasive, and legit. Today they were having their "Grand Opening party" to welcome new customers to the new location on Ben White near Congress. But the free breakfast was a nice touch. Very welcoming. These folks are friendly, y'all. I'd never been poked before, but my gal has been going for a couple of months and since it was FREE today, well, as I said, how could I say no? They didn't seem overly concerned with my precise reasons for being there; I get the impression that it's kind of a one-size-fits-most as far as the first visit goes. Anyway, the whole experience was soothing and well worth the money spent. I'd certainly go back., even thought next time I'll actually have to spend some money. I have been going to SACA for maybe 2 yrs now. I don't have insurance through work and hate to take a plethora of over the counter drugs if I don't have to. I have had IBS issues for the last few years and even when I had insurance nothing was helping. And like most Austinites I suffer from allergies. Oh Cedar Trees how I wish you would all uproot and move to Houston. Anyway, when I started working downtown I decided to give Acupuncture a shot. I don't remember how I ended up finding Wally & Kelly but I will assume it was via the web. I nervously went to my first appt and at the time Kelly was still working there full time. She walked me through the process and we talked about my issues, etc. And the needles were no big deal. My IBS issues really started to clear up and I don't have nearly the allergy issues I had before. After going to them for awhile Kelly took a job up at the acupuncture school and now Wally takes care of all the treatments. Wally is great and very personable. I don't even think about the fact I have needles stuck in me anymore. It's sort of my running joke that I tell my boss that I am off to get needles jabbed in hands. (I cheated on them once and got a free treatment at the school by a student when I was considering taking classes there and it was part of the campus tour. It was awful. The girl was in her final weeks and she jabbed me with those needles and yanked them out. I actually had to tell her to take one out of my belly it hurt so bad. I felt like a voodoo pin cushion as she was sticking them all over me trying to fix all my ailments at once. I'll never stray again!!!) I thought the open room treatment would bother me at first but it doesn't at all. I have been in when every chair was full and I have been when I was only person there. It's soothing enough that I can fall asleep no problem if I can get myself to relax. I have had some of my best naps there. And the sliding scale is wonderful for me since it's all coming out of pocket. Wally's really good about telling you if he wants to recommend an herb treatment that might be a little pricey before he sells it to you. If you can't afford it no big deal that's why he asks. They are not out to get rich. They are there to treat people which is what you would hope for in all medical practices eastern or western. Most times I walk out spending $25 which covers my treatment and maybe a bottle or 2 of herbs if I even need any. My previous weekly treatments have sort of tapered just with my schedule but whenever I have a cold I can't nip or sore back they are my go to spot. In fact yesterday I went for my allergies that have flared up again the last week or so. Today I am feeling great, I can breathe out of both nostrils and my eyes don't itch. I wanted to go to that cute little shack on Lamar. Yeah we had problems with the landlord. My mind I thought LANDLORD!!! (shaking fist in the air like Stephen Colbert does). So I come in for my appointment and this is the first time ever. I can handle needles because I donate blood but I was still nervous because I see images of needles all over the place and I'm afraid of looking at all these needles sticking out. They have helped me with a few nagging problems that would not go away, due to not wanting to mess my body up with daily medications with severe side effects. I can't believe how fast my problems have abated thanks to weekly acupuncture. I'm not a firm believer in alternative medicine, but my options were limited. Times are tough right now and I don't have a plethora of cash to spend on doctors visits and prescription drugs. SACA has the fantastic payment concept called a sliding scale. It is purely based on your income. If you're making the cheese, then $40 will be your cost of visit. Unemployed like me? $20 a visit, which is basically equivalent to a weekly dinner out. I've learned many interesting notions in regards to my body from an Oriental point-of-view. The group setting is actually relaxed and therapeutic. Truly, I cannot say enough great things about this place! Though I had experienced acupuncture previously, I had never heard of the 'community acupuncture' concept. I thought, initially, that it would be weird relaxing in a room with other people -- oh, how wrong I was! First, Wally and Erica were completely professional ... in a very warm and friendly way. I felt comfortable as soon as I entered the building. The new-patient process was quick and painless since you print your forms from their website, complete them on your own prior to your appointment, AND set up your initial appointment online. I felt the office space was cozy and quite inviting, and the other patients whom I spoke with in the waiting area were regulars who made a point to schedule acupuncture into their monthly or weekly routines. (Each was using acupuncture to treat various things from weight management to stress/anxiety to muscle aches.) Second, I was completely at ease with Wally. During my visit, I had my first experience with cupping therapy. This therapy occurred in a private room where Wally explained the process and asked if that was something I wanted to try. Naturally, I did and it was fantastic! Upon completion, we moved into the community room where I selected a recliner and got comfortable. Wally placed the needles while we had a quiet conversation and then left me to relax with the others. The website recommends bringing ear plugs (which I think I overhead them say that they had on hand) due to the possibility of snoring patients who have fallen asleep during their treatment. This is a must if you are bothered by such things; however, the sleepy sounds were a testament to the relaxation that the ambiance and treatment brings to the body. Third, Wally stated that if you appear you are asleep, they do not wake you (unless, of course, you have informed them that you need to be out of there by a particular time). I relaxed for a while and then made eye contact when Wally entered the room. The completion of my treatment was quick and painless, and I left SACA feeling rejuvenated and refreshed! They made the pain go away! I pulled my back after an asthma attack and even though I had previous sciatica pain before, I was a little reluctant to pay for the chiropractor for a slight twinge I had. So I hobbled my way into the office and filled out my paperwork. Everything was based on income on the sliding scale. Being self employed, this was beneficial to because my income is not as stable. So I was able to choose what I was able to pay. The staff was very caring and understanding. I had an excellent cupping and acupuncture session. Even though my skin was a little sensitive, it really did help me and my back twinge in so many ways. I don't know how Wally does it, but he's a miracle worker. For the second time in six months, a back muscle that affects my breathing started seizing up and preventing me from getting enough air. I hobbled in, begging for relief, and he provided it like magic. Just 20 minutes of cupping and an acupuncture-nap later and it's like nothing ever happened. I use acupuncture sporadically, and only when I have a health issue to address. When I wrenched my back in the summer, I looked up a local acupuncturist and chose South Austin Community Acupuncture because it was close and I could get an appointment immediately. I was very impressed with the attention I was paid, and after having my back cupped I was led to a quiet, dim room filled with comfy recliners and soothing music. I was needled in the chair and left to take the best nap I've ever had. I noticed a difference immediately, and after going home and getting a good night's sleep, I was as good as new the next day. Wow! where to begin? I first came to SACA because I was hit with "viral gastroenteritis" aka doctors just made up something because they had no clue what the F was wrong with me. anyways my immune system was wack and i suffered true depression after the whole 2 week ordeal. any who I came to Wally at SACA because it's close to where I live thank God, and he listen more than any doctor ever did.. combined even. The experience is very relaxing, didn't hurt. the weird thing is i didn't really feel the effects till about a week after, but I defiantly noticed something had changed. I kept going back and kept getting better each time. no more depression, night sweats, stomach issues, better sleep and decreased my allergies even. I would only recommend taking herbal supplement they suggest if you have no serious stomach issues as I first did. I recently went in for heart palpitations. I was really freaking out because i was having about 100 of theses palpitations a day. I even connected myself to my EKG monitor at work (paramedic) and realized I was having PAC's basically premature fires(beats) in the top region of my heart. I was really freaked out because I'm relatively healthy and only 26yo. I came to Wally again did the acupuncture along with herbal supplement "bai zi yang xin wan" and about 3 days later the palpitations started to go away quick! and I maybe have 1 a day or none now and just finished all the herbal supplements.
