I want to start my review by saying that the interns and doctors who treated me were wonderful. I love the treatments and I always come away from them feeling relaxed, refreshed, and my ailments lessened. That being said, the way the office is managed is horrible. Specifically, my negative experiences all have one thing in common, the woman who manages the office, office Allison. In my experience, Office Allison interrupts me or talks over me almost all the time. She talks on the phone while helping clients. She has recommended to me that I see the doctors or "professionals" there instead of the interns, right before a treatment. I have heard her talking loudly and rudely on the phone. I have heard her speak very loudly and disrespectfully to Ruth, the other woman who works in the office at times. I find office Allison very unprofessional, disrespectful, and I'd be scared to have this person represent my business. I called in one of my last appointments. I talked to office Allison, and scheduled with a specific intern, who I'd seen several times prior and who had knowledge of me and my history. I found out when I arrived that that intern was not actually scheduled to be in the office at the time. Then, the last time I was there, I came in to schedule an appointment with a particular intern. Office Allison was there and said the intern I requested was available today and could see me at 1:00. It was early, so I left and returned for my appointment. When I returned I found out that my intern was already scheduled with another client at 1:00. When I inquired with Office Allison about the mistake, she was immediately defensive, blaming the intern for not "choosing my name," claiming she just writes the name in a time and doctors hand files to the interns they choose, saying I had made the appointment for a 1:00 slot (not necessarily with that intern), explaining how scheduling works there, basically blaming anyone or anything thing besides herself, including me. I had to even tell her a couple times, "I am a client. I don't have any idea how you do your scheduling. I just want to see who you told me I was scheduled to see." She said I could wait and see that intern at 2:00. I was so frustrated I began tearing up, expressing that I was quite frustrated. Office Allison accused me of being frustrated because of a previous time when I inquired about returning herbs. (I had had no luck, and said that I would just buy herbs elsewhere, since I didn't agree with their return/exchange policy. I said I'd still be happy returning for treatments, which I did. I never complained or asked about the herbs again.) I ended up staying for the visit, after being comforted by the fantastic doctors and interns there. But, not before, as I was trying to just sit quietly and calm down in the waiting room, I was again confronted by office Allison, defending herself and blaming others for the mistake. (*But luckily, my intern and her partner with were great. I had a great treatment, and left feeling more back to normal.) This was the worst experience I've ever had checking into a clinic. I feel like I went to get healed, got extra stressed, and then paid to alleviate the stress that office Allison caused. All and all, GREAT treatment, interns, doctors!!!! NOT GREAT AT ALL office Allison. I have a pre-bought visit that I will use. After that, I WILL NOT BE RETURNING UNTIL OFFICE ALLISON IS GONE!!!! read more

My four-year-old has been under the care of Dr. Cao since he was 14 months old. He has multiple severe food allergies (anaphylactic to nuts, eggs, wheat, fish, soy, seeds, legumes...), and, as a baby, had severe eczema all over his body. We'd tried everything, and finally a friend suggested Traditional Chinese Medicine. I was very skeptical (because honestly, nothing had helped so far and everyone had a suggestion), but my son's skin started clearing within a few weeks of starting on herbs. Within a year, the eczema was completely gone. GONE. We were also able to add foods into my kiddo's diet that previously caused him to vomit or break out in hives. His condition continued to improve so much that he went off of herbs for over a year. Unfortunately, this past fall, he developed seasonal allergies (which are year-round in Austin), and his immune system freaked out again, bringing the eczema back with a vengeance. We have resumed treatment with Dr. Cao; my son is taking herbs and getting weekly acupuncture. It's already helped so much. I really can't describe the degree to which Dr. Cao's care has given us our lives back; it gives us sleep, and it gives my son his health and comfort and a relatively normal life in the face of an otherwise mysterious (Western docs have nothing for food allergies) and scary condition. I also have a nine month old baby (who is super healthy, thankfully, and eczema-free!); I had breast milk under-supply in the baby's early months, and Dr. Cao's acupuncture worked like a charm. I'm still breastfeeding. :) In addition to her amazing skill as a doctor -- she actually works to balance her patient's bodies so as to resolve the underlying condition instead of just slapping band-aid solutions on symptoms -- Dr. Cao is the kindest, most caring doctor I've ever met. I trust her, and so does my son. I can tell she genuinely cares about our family, and she is deeply invested in helping to restore health to her patients. She is funny, sweet, and never condescending to her patients; if all healthcare were like this, the world would be a very different place. I cannot recommend Austin Acupuncture Clinic more highly, and, for pediatric health concerns in particular, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Cao. I have the utmost gratitude toward and respect for her and for TCM. read more

A student clinic is definitely different than being 1 on 1 with a practitioner. Often there are two students with you, they each conduct their own diagnosis and then consult the professor to discuss the best approach for treatment. The professor then double checks the diagnosis and triple checks once you're being treated. Because of this approach it seems like the treatment plan is much more thought out than a solo practitioner. The personalities of each student are all very different so you'll find a favorite in no time! Expect hot tea or glass of filtered water. Despite being a student clinic and not a solo practice they take the time to put out candles. Also be patient: they are students after all and they do genuinely care about helping you. Positive feedback of their performance goes a long way in keeping them motivated. :) For what it is I give it five stars. These students are much better than many solo acupuncturists I've visited in the past. They must be getting quite a good education! The frequency and intensity of my headaches are almost gone. I could not be more pleased. Well, drive by the front it is not too impressive, but once you get in you will know you are the the right place. The inside is as clean an orderly as any doctor's office I have seen. And, with the same amount of approval I describe the staff. Yes, the ones who help you are just one semester (or less) from their graduation and receiving the title as Doctor. While they are treading several concerns that I have, but one of the biggest problems was my hip. Previously I have had Xays and MRIs, I have seen three doctors, including one a highly recognized specialist, and was no better than I was a year ago. 98% of the pain left the first treatment and continues to hold. Yes, they are helping me with other problems that have improved, but had not gone away yet. The cost is extra low and older patients and vets get a special discount. Bob B., Austin read more

My husband and I have been attending the Intern Clinic for 3 weeks now and we become more and more pleased with the service each time we go. The Interns are knowledgeable, professional and proficient. We were really surprised with the time they spent with each of us, making sure we felt improvement with each visit. The atmosphere, cleanliness and sense of welcome makes it an inviting place to visit and the friendliness of everyone makes one feel like family. We highly recommend these services for any one dealing with chronic pain. We find each student approaches the ailment differently, and the professors and specialists always confer and supervise the students, making you feel that you are receiving the best treatment for your particular ailment. I love this clinic because it makes getting treated affordable and convenient. In this day in age when we would rather take a pill vs getting to the root of the problem. Acupuncture is more concerned with getting to the root of the problem and that is something I am very supportive of as a Chiropractor. Nice to have a place that has a purpose of helping and healing people. Acupuncture at THSU helps me uncover the root of the problem and become healthier. Texas Health and Science University Review: On Jan 6th 2014, I became diagnosed with Bell's palsy Disorder. It causes paralysis and stroke like symptoms. I incurred drooping mouth and eye on the right side of my face. I had problems chewing and seeing out of that side. The hospital prescribed medicine but, the recovery process was very slow. A friend of mine recommended THSU. Since I have been attending THSU for acupuncture, it has been an amazing life changing adventure. I have been coming to this place for about 1 year. It is the Best place to get acpuncture. All the acupuncturists have graduated from one of the most prestigious University in China and very experienced and knowledge in Chinese medicine. I'm so grateful that they take health insurance and They have many PHD Acupuncturists onsite and the place is so professional. Their needling skills are phenomenal... I have been seeing Dr. Cao for RA. She has brought great pain relief! She always listens to how I feel and works with what is going on with me weekly. Although my RA is not cured, my pain is greatly reduced. I get terrible hip pain and occasionally headaches. I do not leave the office feeling 100% but within 24 hours I can walk normally again without pain. I also appreciate how organized the office is - rarely do I have to wait to see Dr Cao. I was very skeptical about this treatment - and very frightened. My only wish is that I had seen Dr Cao sooner. read more

I was having lower back pain because I have scoliosis and other disc problems.
