I am an acupuncture novice. While training for a marathon I had toe and upper foot pain that was inhibiting my performance on the longer runs. Two friends recommended Turtle Dragon. After about 5 sessions with Allen during my tapering phase, I felt ready for my marathon. I was able to complete my marathon and just after my marathon felt orders of magnitude better than after my long training runs. Allen worked on reducing the swelling and inflammation which was helpful. He increased blood flow. He also focused on my knee and talked about the connection to my foot. My treatment was focused and purposeful. What I liked about Allen: He is a good listener. He is experienced and careful. He focuses on YOUR presenting issue and doesn't try to solve everything--doesn't try to upsell the patient into multiple treatments He genuinely reduced my problem/pain dramatically He doesn't overpromise. If fact, he debated whether I should make one more trip to the office--wondering if it would provide enough "incremental value." I went anyway and the formula worked for me. He has a good "bedside manner." What I like about the clinic/office: Good location Clean Hygiene is practiced Calm atmosphere People are professional The acupuncture treatment was effective for my issue. Your insurance, flex benefits, HSA may or may not cover this type of treatment. I found it required a bit of research in my plans. Acupuncture was covered for some situations, some of my coverage required referrals. If that is important to you, you may have to do some more homework to discover your plans policies. I was quite happy with the approach, treatment and results. I have really been slacking on writing reviews, but every once in awhile I absolutely can't pass up the opportunity to share my wealth with others. There is no reason why I shouldn't bring James Philips more business -- he is an absolutely gifted practitioner. I have had many acupuncture treatments over the past few years, and many good treatments...enough so that I am going to school to become an acupuncturist/herbalist myself. And of all the great treatments I have had, my session with James has been by far the best and most noticeably effective. I will certainly be continuing to see him for my issues and look forward to seeing how my healing progresses now that I have found him. I personally find palpation to be one of the main missing links in acupuncture. I have never met a practitioner like James who is able to tell where your body is in most need of repair merely by feeling various areas on your body around your channels -- he knows where each tender spot is without you needing to speak a word or ramble on about details of your symptoms. You don't feel a single one of his needles go in -- his technique is as close to flawless as I imagine is possible. Yet he still manages to deeply and thoroughly access what's going on and what needs to be adjusted and worked on the most. I was taking herbs from a different acupuncturist when I came in to see him, and he in no way pressured me to purchase any more unnecessarily from him or change my formula, but he did make sure to check in with me to see how they were affecting my condition. He made helpful suggestions and made me feel confident about my healing process. I instantly felt I was in excellent hands, and I felt absolutely great after seeing him. He works quickly yet is not rushed, and he makes sure you spend the amount of time on his table you need, checking on you frequently to ensure comfort. He's caring and kind, knowledgeable, and best yet, you can just tell from speaking with him and allowing him to work on you that he not only knows what he is doing, he LOVES doing it. Im disappointed in this old Austin favorite. For many years they provided Chinese herbs "to the people" meaning those who didnt have a TCM certificate. No longer. Perhaps its about money? It means those of us "just folks" will have to order on line--sending money away from Austin. I guess Turtle Dragon has gotten too successful? Good for them! they ought to be. However, why abandon the health needs of the many who can greatly benefit? Maybe TCM wants to have a Western medical aura of respectability? Maybe they are concerned about misuse? My husband and I have been suffering with infertility for a very long time and it has costed us thousands in procedures and medicines. After about a month of studying, researching, reading reviews, reading double blind studies and comparing, I finally found a formula that seemed promising. The formula consisted of two very common Chinese herbs so I began to call around for places that had the products for the best price. I called this place and spoke with a gentleman, he informed me that they did in fact have what I was looking for. I asked him if a doctor's visit was required to purchase herbs (as this was the case at an acupuncture clinic I worked at dime years before), and he adamantly said "no".
