I am an acupuncture novice. While training for a marathon I had toe and upper foot pain that was inhibiting my performance on the longer runs. Two friends recommended Turtle Dragon. After about 5 sessions with Allen during my tapering phase, I felt ready for my marathon. I was able to complete my marathon and just after my marathon felt orders of magnitude better than after my long training runs. Allen worked on reducing the swelling and inflammation which was helpful. He increased blood flow. He also focused on my knee and talked about the connection to my foot. My treatment was focused and purposeful. What I liked about Allen: He is a good listener. He is experienced and careful. He focuses on YOUR presenting issue and doesn't try to solve everything--doesn't try to upsell the patient into multiple treatments He genuinely reduced my problem/pain dramatically He doesn't overpromise. If fact, he debated whether I should make one more trip to the office--wondering if it would provide enough "incremental value." I went anyway and the formula worked for me. He has a good "bedside manner." What I like about the clinic/office: Good location Clean Hygiene is practiced Calm atmosphere People are professional The acupuncture treatment was effective for my issue. Your insurance, flex benefits, HSA may or may not cover this type of treatment. I found it required a bit of research in my plans. Acupuncture was covered for some situations, some of my coverage required referrals. If that is important to you, you may have to do some more homework to discover your plans policies. I was quite happy with the approach, treatment and results. Oh and this listing talks about a tea house which was part of their prior location but not part of this facility--that is not accurate on the yelp description. read more

I had been suffering with a mild headache for several months, with little relief from any sort of pain meds or any solutions from the doctors I was seeing. The neurosurgeon found nothing amiss in my MRI but was going to try more aggressive drugs to get rid of the headache. My friend suggested acupuncture with James Philips at Turtle Dragon, so I decided to give it a try. Why not? He spent a great deal of time with me talking and listening at that first treatment. A few days later, my headache was GONE. I was so surprised. This was my first taste of what acupuncture could do to improve my health. I have continued to go to James and have been impressed with the quality of care I receive with each treatment, how well he listens and I appreciate how he seems to just "know" what's going on with me and what my body needs. He is a gifted healer. read more

I have really been slacking on writing reviews, but every once in awhile I absolutely can't pass up the opportunity to share my wealth with others. There is no reason why I shouldn't bring James Philips more business -- he is an absolutely gifted practitioner. I have had many acupuncture treatments over the past few years, and many good treatments...enough so that I am going to school to become an acupuncturist/herbalist myself. And of all the great treatments I have had, my session with James has been by far the best and most noticeably effective. I will certainly be continuing to see him for my issues and look forward to seeing how my healing progresses now that I have found him. I personally find palpation to be one of the main missing links in acupuncture. I have never met a practitioner like James who is able to tell where your body is in most need of repair merely by feeling various areas on your body around your channels -- he knows where each tender spot is without you needing to speak a word or ramble on about details of your symptoms. You don't feel a single one of his needles go in -- his technique is as close to flawless as I imagine is possible. Yet he still manages to deeply and thoroughly access what's going on and what needs to be adjusted and worked on the most. I was taking herbs from a different acupuncturist when I came in to see him, and he in no way pressured me to purchase any more unnecessarily from him or change my formula, but he did make sure to check in with me to see how they were affecting my condition. He made helpful suggestions and made me feel confident about my healing process. I instantly felt I was in excellent hands, and I felt absolutely great after seeing him. He works quickly yet is not rushed, and he makes sure you spend the amount of time on his table you need, checking on you frequently to ensure comfort. He's caring and kind, knowledgeable, and best yet, you can just tell from speaking with him and allowing him to work on you that he not only knows what he is doing, he LOVES doing it. In my book, he is everything and more a healer should be. Go see him, you won't regret it! It is worth every ounce of the cost, in this case. This one is a game changer, folks! read more

I just had my first appointment with Allen Cline for low back issues. He really knows his stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing an end to a few chronic issues I've had for several years. read more

I've only seen James a couple of times. I had been looking for a good acupuncturist since I moved to the Austin area a few years ago, and had not been able to find one that was a natural. One of my friends heard me complaining about not being able to find a good acupuncturist and recommend James. I could not be more pleased with his treatments, my husband and I both go and we both feel the same about James natural gift of healing. Very laid back, but informative and confident in his treatment. Very convenient hours of service, we both work during the week and his clinic has weekend hour which is perfect for our schedule. If you are looking for a true healer, you won't go wrong seeing James. read more

I have been seeing James for more than 12 years, even though I have lived away from the Austin area for almost 10 of those. I suffered from allergies, migraines, stomach ulcers and a host of other things until James helped me get my health back. He explained how and why my body had gotten to that point. His demeanor was, and is always compassionate and understanding. My quality of life soared after I began to see him! I honestly can't thank him enough. If I moved to Alaska I would still fly back to Austin to see him, he really is that good. read more

I have seen Karen Greathouse for acupuncture treatments for: allergies, stress, pain & inflammation. She is attentive, asks questions & listens not only to me but her guidance. When I've been at my lowest point in terms of health, acupuncture with James Phillips at Turtle Dragon has been the only treatment that has helped me. I struggle with a chronic health condition and traditional doctors are severely lacking in their ability to treat the root cause. I've tried other accupunturists, but nothing compares to Turtle Dragon. read more

Im disappointed in this old Austin favorite. For many years they provided Chinese herbs "to the people" meaning those who didnt have a TCM certificate. No longer. Perhaps its about money? It means those of us "just folks" will have to order on line--sending money away from Austin. I guess Turtle Dragon has gotten too successful? Good for them! they ought to be. However, why abandon the health needs of the many who can greatly benefit? Maybe TCM wants to have a Western medical aura of respectability? Maybe they are concerned about misuse? Maybe the health department is abusing them. Whatever the truth, it saddens me that they need these policies. They do however provide powerfully good interventions I have heard. Go Turtle Dragon! read more

I had a rash and a medical Dr. told me it would take 6-9 weeks to go away. Alan gave me herbs and the rash was gone in 2 weeks. Now I see James regularly and I love how he listens and I feel like he cares. He's helped me through several issues. read more

Karen is the GREATEST. During the past year she has treated me for Knee pain, Numbness in the left arm and back spasms. I always leave the clinic feeling much better if not completely fixed. Love Allen! Have been going to him for all sorts of ailments for about 20 years. He is exceptionally knowledgable about both eastern and western philosophies, and is always clear regarding my expectations. read more

I have always been skeptical of anything outside of typical medical Dr's, but after taking too many drugs to fix a few (normal, but frustrating - including allergies) things I had going on, I was willing to try it. A friend recommended Turtle Dragon - and it is so refreshing to talk to a Dr that takes your whole system into consideration. I've learned so much about my body, what's going on, and how one thing can affect another. Also, it has been effective - issues I thought I would have to live with my whole life are getting better, and it's only been a few weeks. I definitely recommend at least coming in once - it's also way cheaper than "normal" western medicine :) read more

I love that this place is in my neighborhood! I came here for fertility issues and pain management and had several sessions. I had been to a couple of different places in town, but Turtle Dragon is the best! My knee pain was minimized and although I ended up having to have medical intervention to conceive, I know the acupuncture was helpful. read more

I have seen both James and Allen and they are excellent, very professional and courteous and they care. They take the time to explain and pinpoint what may be unbalanced in your body so you feel as though it is manageable and getting better is attainable. Chinese medicine has really taken off and while the number of practitioners has increased dramatically, this place is the place to go and put your trust in. I recommend without hesitation! read more

My husband and I have been suffering with infertility for a very long time and it has costed us thousands in procedures and medicines. After about a month of studying, researching, reading reviews, reading double blind studies and comparing, I finally found a formula that seemed promising. The formula consisted of two very common Chinese herbs so I began to call around for places that had the products for the best price. I called this place and spoke with a gentleman, he informed me that they did in fact have what I was looking for. I asked him if a doctor's visit was required to purchase herbs (as this was the case at an acupuncture clinic I worked at dime years before), and he adamantly said "no". I excitedly drove over there over 40 miles from where I live in Taylor TX only to be told by a woman that she didn't feel comfortable letting me purchase the herbs without an appointment to see the doctor. I explained to her that I understood the risk and that I was willing to sign a release or whatever was required. The woman just stood firm and completely disregarded the fact that the man who told me I could come and just purchase was sitting in a room very close to where were and even acknowledged what he told me. I was so heartbroken, as a woman going through this extremely tough ordeal that another woman could be so heartless. I walked out in tears and never went back. read more

My family and I see James Phillips for allergies, digestive, and stress related issues. A few years ago, my toddler had severe eye allergy problems- his eyes were so red and swollen the pediatrician thought he had pink eye! (He didn't.) We tried everything, Allegra, Claritin, Benadryl, and a slew of natural remedies I had researched on my own. I was exhausted and ready to try anything to get my poor baby some relief! After a quick and painless (not to mention cheap), pediatric consultation, James gave him some natural herbal drops that are made in- house. Two squirts a day and after two weeks he was completely healed. Literally it was a miracle. That was five years ago and now my little guy is 7 yrs old and we keep his health and allergies in check without any drugs, just natural remedies from turtle dragon! I trust James with our health and he was always gone above and beyond. Such a nice man and always takes his time, you really feel like a valued patient. Love. read more

I am allergic to many regular antibiotics given out by most doctors. When a doctor gave me a prescription with 24 refills I tore it up and threw it away and found the Turtle Dragon and Alan. That was 15 or so years ago. Alan is still taking care of me today and I so appreciate it. read more
