However, we were really disappointed by the clinic's policy on late arrivals. We were only 10 minutes late, with a toddler in tow, and it was our very first visit. Life with little ones can be unpredictable, and we expected a little understanding. Instead, we were charged a $50 fee, which they refused to waive, even after we explained the situation. We understand the importance of timeliness, but a bit of grace would have gone a long way, especially for new families trying to find the right care team. It left us feeling more like a number than valued patients. Great provider, but the rigid policy and lack of flexibility took away from an otherwise positive experience

Though my cycle has always been irregular, for me, it was kind of an after thought. However, Masha noted that this was throwing off all my hormones, and that regulating it should be top priority. As part of her plan, she instructed me to eat specific seeds at different points throughout my cycle. I was skeptical that something so simple could work- but it did work! It's crazy that women's moon cycles can be regulated with something so simple as seeds! I can't believe this isn't common knowledge. One thing I really like about Dr. Masha as compared to other naturopathic doctors I have worked with is that she is careful to work within my budget. Her plan for regulating my cycle involved flax seeds and sesame seeds- something I could definitely afford. In the past, I have worked with naturopaths who convince me to spend hundred of dollars on specific tests, and then committee to a supplement regime that costs hundred of dollars every month. While Dr. Masha did recommend supplements, they are all ones that I could afford. She provided me guidance on brands, but did not insist that I buy the most expensive brand through her (as has been my past experience). Overall I am very pleased with my experience with Dr. Masha and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for an alternative to the conventional pharmaceutical approach. She is very easy to talk to and I felt safe and comfortable throughout the whole session.

I would possibly bite the bullet on the cost if they would have demonstrated that they could actually help with my health, but alas.....

I am very sorry to have to give a bad review of the Skylar Center. First off, there is no insurance…read moretaken and you must pay monthly for their services. My "plan" was roughly $350 each month Which only lasted a couple months until I cancelled their services. Upon my first visit after my labs I was referred to a hematologist because my blood iron levels were home about 20 points over normal. I was fine with this because I don't know how this works. I was referred to an oncologist for this which scared me and I ended up seeing a hematologist in the same office, and the doctor said this is not an issue when your blood levels are just a little bit over normal... During this first meeting, the doctor at Skylar Center also had me very concerned about my liver because it too was a few (10) points over normal. This doctor made reference to my colon and my kidney having issues as well. A little seed was planted that somethings wrong. She had me take a vitamin a few times a day for this liver "problem" and told me to get an ultra sound. When I asked for the referral for the ultrasound she wouldn't give it to me and told me I had to go see my primary care practitioner. Since when do you pay $350 a month for services and you can't even get a referral for an ultrasound from the medical doctor your paying? After 3 months I had more blood drawn to review my progress. At that time my amylase and lipase levels were high and I got a phone call sending me to the emergency room immediately. I was in no pain nor had been when I took the blood draw. I know this was because they needed to cover their end from liability because they saw my blood levels were a little high. So I went to Memorial and sat there for 10 hours only to be told that my levels were normal. According to the hospital my levels were normal according to Skylar blood draw lab my levels were not normal. Who is right here? I spoke to the doctor the day after I went to the emergency room and told her everything was normal. I asked her what about my liver levels in this new blood draw and she said "they are not good" which makes me think I have a big problem. That Conversation was continue to take your vitamins and I'll talk to you again in three months. Now it's really obvious to me that they are making me think there's an issue in my body when there are no issues. You pay a doctor to tell you if somethings going on and I felt like I got fed a ton of maybes.... With no solutions. What the heck?? And I'm paying monthly for this!?!?! I did get the ultrasound done and I got a whole panel of blood work drawn from another doctor. And of course everything is fine with all my organs and nothing is wrong with my liver. I would never recommend the Skylar center ever and their offices are grungy and old.

I tried out Svastha for the introductory 2 week offer and I liked it quite a bit. By my second visit Siva already remembered me by name. I mostly took the Detox class with Siva and the Build Fire class with Matt, and these were both enjoyable and rewarding. Although initially it may not seem very convenient, I like the way the classes are scheduled according to the appropriate time of day for the particular healing objective - it makes a lot of sense to build fire in the morning and detox & unwind at the end of the day. I also like the way that Svastha has really taken the time to do things right in terms of getting to know the community and the local neighborhood. For the whole first month they were open, all the classes were free. They have continued to offer free yoga classes from time to time that are staffed by volunteers. The regular classes are reasonably priced compared to other yoga studios, and they are the only yoga studio in the area to offer a student membership. The focus at Svastha is really on health and healing. There is a great deal of information about ayurveda on their website, and they offer consultations. There is a small retail section of the studio with yoga and ayurveda related products, and as a green business, you even get 10% off a retail purchase if you walk or ride your bike to the studio. They have been gathering customer feedback about the kind of classes people want and what days and times are best, so I look forward to their new schedule when hopefully they will have more classes on the weekend.
