We had a good experience with our daughter's provider, she was kind and thorough during our well-child visit. However, we were really disappointed by the clinic's policy on late arrivals. We were only 10 minutes late, with a toddler in tow, and it was our very first visit. Life with little ones can be unpredictable, and we expected a little understanding. Instead, we were charged a $50 fee, which they refused to waive, even after we explained the situation. We understand the importance of timeliness, but a bit of grace would have gone a long way, especially for new families trying to find the right care team. We sought a pediatrician with a holistic, Pro-Choice approach, focusing on preventive care, emotional and mental well-being, and natural remedies in conjunction with conventional treatments, which is exactly what Growing Healthy offers. We make it a point to visit this facility annually for our check-up, and we're always impressed by the kindness of the front desk staff, the informativeness and helpfulness of the nurses, and the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility. read more

Honest Review of Dr. Marcelle & Dr. Mike I sought out Dr. Marcelle and Dr. Mike based on recommendations that they were more natural but unfortunately, my experience was far from that. From the start, their approach to a certain subject felt firm--almost scolding--rather than supportive. I expected open, respectful discussions at the very least, but instead, I felt pressured and dismissed. After looking into online reviews and other holistic parenting groups, I found that many families have had similar experiences recently. It makes me wonder if, as more naturally-minded families have sought them out, they've shifted their approach for whatever reason. Beyond that, their UNSOLICITED night weaning advice did not align with gentle or responsive parenting. They suggested giving my baby water in a bottle rather than responding to hunger cues, which goes against evidence-based research showing that night waking for food and/or comfort is biologically normal and even protective against SIDS. Even after hearing my firm stance being I didn't mind the 2 feeds/night, they INSISTED it needs to stop. Even if I choose to make certain decisions, it should be **my decision--not because a doctor pressured me into it.** Their approach was rude and unprofessional, making me feel like I had no voice in my own child's healthcare. This is my child, and I deserve a provider who respects that. It's frustrating to have spent money and time on a practice that seems to pick and choose when to be "holistic" and when to push conventional advice through fear tactics. While some may still find their approach helpful, I personally wouldn't recommend them to families looking for **true** holistic and respectful care. read more

My wife and I have been taking our twins here since they were born and never had any issues until recently. In February of this year we had to bring in our youngest daughter and one of our twins to be inspected for lice, hoping they would prescribe a shampoo, cream etc. I called the doctor ahead of time to ask how much the visit would be (we're on a tight budget at the moment) and what the doctor actually would be able to do since we knew they had lice (picked them off their heads) or if we could just go to cvs for shampoo. The receptionist explained the price of the visit and assured us the doctor would be able to help us. My wife brought our kids in and the doctor did exactly what we thought, confirmed they had lice (duh) and they said we can go to cvs or rite aid for lice shampoo. It was going to be a $300 visit that my wife had to cry and plead noting we couldn't afford that right now, so they dropped it to $150, which was still too high for information we already knew. I called Mike and emailed a complaint after telling the receptionist that we didn't need the visit because we already knew they had lice and the doctor did nothing that the receptionist noted she would do. After hearing back from Mike after his "investigation" we were issued a full refund and just an update on their payment policy. Fast forward to yesterday, we had to bring our 2 year old in to urgent care, she has a fracture in her arm. Urgent care gave us a rec for a pediatric ortho, we called for an appt and was told we need a referral from our primary care doctor. No problem. I emailed Mike asking for the referral and he said that in order for a referral our daughter would need to be an established patient and we should Bright Futures schedule for future visits. He then sent us 2 more orthos. I called the GHT office this morning to schedule an appointment since they actually needed to see the Urgent Care paper work in order to write referral. I get a call back shortly after saying that we've been dismissed from the practice and they will not be seeing our 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO HAS A FRACTURED ARM!!! I emailed Mike to let him know that never at any point were we told were we are dismissed from the practice, for what??? This USED to be a great practice, we would always recommend people to GHT. It breaks my heart to leave this review but I hope it spares at least one family. Firstly, there are no MDs on staff here. Not sure how this is legal in the US. Only Nurse Practitioners are staffed here. We had a terrible experience back at my child's annual check up and I take FULL responsibility for chalking it up to "an off day". The practicing nurse spent a lot while with us but was not ACTUALLY able to communicate to (what I thought was a doctor) the NURSE on staff. So all the things I shared with her was basically a huge waste of time. Only to have to repeat it all and then not have the nurse actually ADDRESS the issues at hand. Most recently, my mistake, we returned for a medical concern. I cannot go into details out of respect for my child but the quick of it- I asked them to take tests to which they weren't keen on. They ended up taking one test to which I never got results for. -_- Thankfully, alarm bells went off when one NP told me to do the polar opposite of what the 1st NP told me in my visit the days before. Had I took my child to an actual doctor last Monday we would've avoided 3 visits and a trip to urgent care. What could've been a life long consequence was thankfully saved by an MD. My newborn's experience at the clinic was decent. Once we had arrived for our appointment, the receptionist there, Stephanie, was kind enough to walk us through the newborn process with the insurance as were getting situated in the city with our first child. However, what slowed us down was the lady beside here who seem to begrudgingly helped her after seeming cold when she asked questions pertaining to my situation. The front desk staff tried their best to hurry and finish our paperwork so that we could see our doctor. The doctor experience was mundane, but very helpful. read more

We've been taking our kids here for the past 4 years. Not sure why I took so long to write this review but after 4 years of coming here, I think we can give an honest and thorough review. We absolutely love GHT so much so that we continued coming after moving to the east coast for a couple of years. The practice is consistent, the service is always good and the staff is extremely nice, caring and available to you. What we love most is their views on the right to choose care thats best for you and your family. They provide you all the information you need to make the best and most informed decisions. I appreciate the practice for being understanding and sharing knowledge without the pushiness or disconnected service. Luckily we have rather healthy kids so I can only speak to well visits though we did call when faced with a brush with covid and Dr. Mark (believe thats correct) was extremely helpful. When I called frantic about my toddler and newborn. He was calming, assuring and knowledgeable which put me at ease. We love GHT and would highly recommend! read more

We love GHT. I've been taking my daughter here since she was 2 months old. I originally went to HOAG where they pushed vaccines without explaining them. I went to Mike and voiced my concerns and he walked me through them and spent quality time explaining what was best for my daughter. Also, before I saw Mike my baby had really bad eczema- both a pediatric dermatologist and my previous Ped didn't diagnose my baby .... As soon as I told Mike my baby symptoms he's diagnosed her with eczema and he was right!! My baby is now 6 months and has eczema "flare ups" and we are trying to figure out her triggers.... So thankful for Mike and not just prescribing a RX or something harsh but trying to figure out what's causing her flareups. So many other Drs rushed to prescribe but don't look to see gut issues. I really like the nurses and Mike for spending quality time with us. He will sit down and talk to you and really get to know you as an individual- great doctor!! Shady billing practices! Be careful if they say you are in network! They informed us we were covered in network, but they would send the bills under a Dr.'s name who we never met. Anytime they sent it under the individual that we actually saw our insurance would reject it. Wound up with insurance saying we were not covered for a lot of the visits. GHT said not to worry and said they would get it taken care of. However we wound up getting a huge collections notice recently with no warning from GHT or any attempt to figure the billing issues out with us. read more

The day after we were released from the hospital with our newborn we went to Mike for a newborn check. My daughter had lost almost 10% of her body weight and hadn't pooped in about the last 24 hours. So Mike tells us that she has to be back at her birth weight by 1 week and since i was breastfeeding to give her an oz of pumped breast milk after each feeding every 2 hours to get her weight up and to see if that gets her to poop. Now he told us that if she doesnt poop within 24 hours we'll have to go to the ER. 24hours later she didnt poop so we contact him on spruce and let him know what's going on. Mind you it's Friday morning and if we don't figure this out before 5pm we would end up at the ER with our new born. He tells us to up the pumped milk to 2oz every 2 hours after each feeding and if she doesn't poop by the end of the day to take her to the ER. So we start to do this and we ask him what he means by the end of the day? As of what time!? The we dont here from him till we've already taken the matters into our own hands. For new parents who are freaking out and super concerned that they will have to take their new born baby to the ER (a major thing) to just take your time to respond is unacceptable. I was fed up and just had a gut feeling that this was all bad information. She had poop at the hospital 3 times and we told Mike that. I wasn't going to wait till the end of Friday to no longer have any options other than to take her to the hospital. So i took my baby girl the a real doctor at Memorial for a second opinion that day. She did a full evaluation on on our baby girl and she said that she was in great shape. She had gained 5oz in one day. She recommended we scale back the feedings big time. Also let us know that the baby had two weeks to get back to brith weight not one! Then she said she was not concerned about the baby pooping just yet because she is being breastfed and she has seen it take a couple of days. She said she had a newborn that didnt poop for 13 days after leaving the hospital. As long as the baby didnt seem to be in any discomfort or pain then we would just monitor her. She advised that before ever sending us to the ER should would prefer if we tried a couple of methods but didn't want us trying it just yet and to give her a couple more days. Also she noted that the last thing you want to do with a healthy baby is take them to a diseased infested ER where they can catch something horrible. That day at 10pm baby girl had a big old poop. We had another pediatrician recommended to us by a family friend doctor as we were looking for our child's main pediatrician. For the baby girl's follow up we took her to a pediatrician at Newport Children's Medical Group. We told her the whole story and she was absolutely shocked and confused. She reassured us that the baby had two weeks to get back to birth weight. She kept wondering why i was pumping and bottle feeding, thinking i was doing that to get my baby used to the bottle for when i go back to work. I told he no it's because MIKE said that i had to do that after each feeding to get her weight up and for her to poop. Then she hit is with the well your baby's weight is still in normal range even after loosing the 10% and that she didnt need all the extra bottle feeds and she would have been fine with just breastfeeding. And once again it's normal for a breastfeeding baby not to poop for a couple of days. She put our minds and ease . The doctor at Newport Children's Medical Group was amazing and informative. Now the reason i am leaving this review is because of how his advice has destroyed my breastfeeding relationship with my newborn. She now prefers the bottle and doesn't want to work hard for the breastmilk at the breast. Ive been struggling with this for the past couple of weeks as I'm trying to get her to stop the bottle (that was never needed in the first place, just proper monitoring). I have even met with a lactation specialist to confirm that i am doing everything to the best of my abilities and she told me baby's are smart if they know that can get it an easier way then they wont bother to do it the hard way. Also informing me that the worst thing to do when trying to exclusively breast feed is to introduce the bottle or pacifier in the first couple weeks after birth. With the bad advice i was given i had given her the bottle 3 days after being born. I just wonder if i had gone to a real doctor at first and they had just told me to go home and breast feed for two days then come back for another weight check if everything would have been fine. Especially now that i know for sure that she is latching correctly however just not putting in the effort to emptying the breast. This has been my experience here and would highly recommend people to just go see a real doctor before you end up on the worst emotional roller coaster of your life. We chose to bring our son here after meeting with Mike towards the end of my pregnancy. In our meeting he spoke about being a holistic based practice and supporting parents decisions in their child's health care. At our 1 month appointment we saw Marcelle, she was great until the end. We had a screen done on our son that came back positive and she wrote it off as probably being a false positive and not to worry but would send us referrals for a specialist. We waited a few days for that referral and it never came. I had to reach out to get it, and turns out it was not a false positive and we were so caught off guard after telling us not to worry about it. Then at our 2 month appointment, we saw Mike. At the end of the appointment he asked if we were doing shots and I said no, not at this time and that's when his whole demeanor flipped. He began his fear mongering speech and telling me I am going to kill my baby by denying or postponing these shots. He came at me as if I am dumb, which I am not - I am also in the medical field and have done extensive research in this area, which he should have known if he actually listened when I told him what I do for work. After he realized I wasn't going to change my mind, he couldn't get out of the room fast enough and was so rude and arrogant. I was in disbelief as this is completely opposite of what he preached in our consult with him a few months prior. After speaking with friends who also take/have taken their kids here, they stated that the providers that actually practice holistically and support parent's choices have since left the office and agreed they all had similar experiences with Mike. We really wanted to love this place, but after that experience we chose to not bring our son back here. read more

It's about time I leave a review now that my son is 15 months. We've been seeing Dr Nancy since a couple days after his birth and our experience has been wonderful to say the least. - Insurance: The process to go through our insurance (Aetna) has been flawless. No problems here. People whining on here about issues with their insurance- that's a problem you should take up with your insurance, not your doctor. - Vaccine friendly: They give us their recommendation but they listen to our needs/requests. This is why we drive 45 minutes to see Dr Nancy. She is so worth it. - Communication: They use an app (Spruce) where you can message them at all hours of the day with any question you have. As a new mom, I was so grateful to have a way to contact my doctor when I needed to. Thanks to these doctors who responded to me during odd hours of the day (and sorry!). - Staff: staff are always sweet, friendly, etc. If you've had a negative experience, I suggest you check yourself and stop getting so offended at every little thing . I used to take my two teenage daughters to Memorial Care off Bellflower Blvd. & Atherton St., but trying to get a regular appointment there takes weeks if not months now. I did some research and found this place via Yelp and decided to give it a shot. I was impressed with the level of personal care and attention my two daughters received. I have to say that being a single parent dealing with teenage daughters has really forced me out of my comfort zone. My daughters can be shy and quiet at times so sometimes I have to step in and ask the important questions. The doctor and her staff were very kind and detailed with their explanations. By the the of the visit I left with more knowledge than I ever wanted but it's part of being a parent. Will definitely be coming back for my kids medical needs here. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. They have helped me restore my two kids to good health when they were really sick. Nancy helped me with my baby infant girl when she was extremely constipated and pooping hard poops because she was on the wrong formula. She recommended a formula that worked perfectly for her after two failed formula attempts on my side. She helped me with the transition process. It was such a relief to see her better because I was literally in tears one night when she was pushing and nothing was coming out. Dr Nikki and Nancy helped me when my 3.5 year old son caught a nasty flu type a in preschool. He kept having fever spikes, wasn't eating, and was lethargic. I was worried sick. They got him on a nebulizer and albuterol and sent me home with one because one of his lungs wasn't getting enough oxygen. I was worried sick but they reassured me about what to worry about and what not to worry about and gave me additional tips to help restore his health and clear his congestion. They're both moms so they get it. He is doing much better and I can sleep easier. I'm so happy I found this place. I love their Spruce app because it makes you feel like you are able to text with your provider or any provider and get a quick response. I initially came here because I didn't want to give my son combo vaccines because I felt they could be too hard on his body. I put him on a much gentler vaccine schedule. Other pediatric clinics only offered combo vaccines. I love that the vaccines are preservative free too. So far, my kids have not gotten any fevers whatsoever with GHT vaccines. It's one less thing to worry about. Love this place! Edit: I want to add Dr Mike ended up helping my daughter after this post. She is 3.5 months old and got the flu type A from her brother. Since he got it bad I was very worried, but she is on the mend. I again appreciated the same day appointment and quick response on Spruce. Ty again! read more

They failed to charge our insurance or notify us of issues with payment before sending us to collections. WHAT?!?!? Very disappointed. Unfortunately I had a bad experience. I asked to spread out my child's immunizations so she would have not have to have more than two shots per visit. They advertise that they are able to accommodate that but , what ended up happening, was they charged me for the immunizations that are usually covered by insurance. They notified me that my insurance did not cover these immunizations which did not make sense so just beware. I talked to their finance department and the insurance company and everybody just seems to give me the run around. read more

I do not understand why this place receives good reviews. We just moved to the area and went here based upon Yelp reviews. Unfortunately, that was the wrong choice as we had the worst health care interaction for our child to-date. First, the associates tried to label us as self-pay despite the fact that our insurance was presented upon arrival. None of the associates seemed to know what to do or what was going on. This was indicated by the fact that the first provider that arrived assumed that our infant was there for his 6 month check-up, even though we specified that he was there for his 4 month. Second, we were asked to call our insurance and "change our PCP to GHT." What? In my years of working in health care, I have never heard of this. Usually, you present your insurance and are billed after. While in the office trying to get in contact with our insurance provider, our infant was screaming. No one came to check in on us, except for one associate who came in and offered to hold our infant. After he drooled on her (he's teething), she said, "Okay, I'll hand you back because you just drooled on me." Hey, if you have a problem with drooling children, don't work with them! Throughout this whole process, they seemed intent on selling us their Concierge Service - which apparently offers a discount on their services if you are self-pay. This seems counterintuitive for someone who has insurance, right? To add to this, one of the nurses remarked that our son's name sounded feminine. We corrected her on the pronounciation of his name. She seemed to approve of the correct pronounciation and then turned to our infant son and said, "Now you wouldn't want a feminine-sounding name, would you?" We're not raising our child to reinforce gender stereotypes and it seems that the staff is not reflective of this. Oveall, all the associates were very rude and unhelpful. They did not offer resolution to this situation, which could have been avoided altogether had they communciated that we would need to change our providers with our insurance first. As a result, we have to delay important services that our infant needs as we seek care elsewhere. There is no way in hell we're coming back here for care after the way we were treated. Finally, upon leaving, six associates were lined up in front to silently watch my husband and infant leave. Not one said goodbye or offered any sort of consolation. Again, very unprofessional and unbecoming for a health CARE business. They are more intent on making money and providing below subpar service to people who refuse to sign up for theor useless services. read more

The worst healthcare I've ever seen. Do not take your kids here ! My daughter was super sick with a bacteria / parasite infection and I was brushed off and told that it was just a "stomach bug" they sat on her fecal test results for 5 days ( I called quest myself) and in the meantime her infection turned into a UTI. I called clearly upset about not receiving the results and they discharged me from the practice . So basically don't question anything and don't expect any sense of urgency when your child is sick or you might run the risk of getting discharged . read more

We recently started going to Growing Healthy Together with our newborn daughter and we've been so impressed and grateful with the service provided. We really like having access to the care providers via the Spruce app because as new, first time parents, we have a lot of questions and anxieties. Through the app, we can message at any time and get a prompt response about our concerns. When in the office, visits are consistently great too - we're welcomed to ask any questions we may have and given good information about how to support out daughter's development. We've been with GHT since my daughter was born, she's going on 4 now. Overall I've felt good enough here but recently starting to rethink providers. I've used the after hours service maybe a handful of times or less, 2 of those times in the last few months. Both of the times I was told that the on call doctor would be calling me and I never got those calls. If they did, certainly no voicemail was left. Luckily my daughter ended up getting better or just not worse. I just hate not being able to count on GHT in those moments where I should be able to. Also, my daughter got labs done over 2 weeks ago and her results came in soon after. We couldn't do them all since she wasn't fasting the day we went. When they came in I called the office so I could gain access to view these results online and also advised them we wouldn't do the rest of the labs since my daughter didn't want to go back. I saw the results online but nothing stating "normal" or anything I could understand. I believe the Dr said I'd be getting a phone call re the results but again, nothing yet. *I'd like to add that the reason I stuck around here before is actually the nurses. Any time it came to vaccines they were so great with my girl and making her comfortable. Thank you for that. read more

I paid 100 dollars for an exam & my baby was seen by a "student". The student did my baby's whole exam without the provider Mike in the office . Looking back at it , I was distracted with registration paper work and didn't notice till it was over . No offense to the student but l feel taken advantage of considering I paid cash and my baby was looked at by someone with little to no experience. The appointment doesn't seem rushed but you also don't get any physical information from the providers (I don't believe Anyone is even a doctor.... no one introduced themselves.) No recap of weight and height on a paper to take home No information about growth milestones , early food development, side effects or information about immunizations Nothing came out of this appointment. Besides a causal conversation . A very expensive causal conversation. I'm definitely looking to take my baby elsewhere . read more

We love Mike and his team. We can't say enough about him and his staff. We love Mikes knowledge of holistic options as well as traditional medicine. He is such a great listener and has yet to make us feel like " dumb parents" as a lot of Doctors do. He is kind and his delivery is wonderful. There is great parking in the back and its not far from the VA Hospital which we are at often. They also offer financial payment options for parents who do not have insurance. My experience with Growing Healthy Together (GHT), is that there is nothing special going on at their facility. I recently took my daughter there to get some antibiotics for a respiratory tract infection. We met up with nurse Nancy. I tried to explain to her that my daughter had a lingering infection. She had been sick for a month, and for the last week and half, coughing up greenies. Nurse Nancy was trying to educate me about viruses, and that my daughter did not have a bacterial infection. After her home remedy suggestions, we were on our way. The following day, I went to see a friend who is a licensed physician. I got her some antibiotics, and three days later she had cleared the infection. I am rating the place with two stars because the new facility is pretty clean. As far as knowledgeable nurses, I can only comment on my experience. Needless to say, I will not return. read more

As a new resident to the area finding a doctor to replace the amazing one I had in Riverside was a must. After a bad experience with a doctor from memorial who was not supportive to breast feeding and was insistent on the cdc recommended immunization schedule; after being told I was over protective and need to just do what he felt was best I was ready to just commute to my old doctor for my kids. I decided to try one more location which came highly recommended. The staff are patient and kind with the kids and my million and one questions. They always take the time to answer any questions I have. The best part is they are interested in not only treating my children but building a relationship with the family. I am THOROUGHLY impressed with Growing Healthy Together!! From day one, I have found them to be efficient, skilled, and knowledgeable. The office is clean and welcoming, and the staff is friendly, helpful, kind, and informed. My provider, Kelsey Chung, NP, is wonderful! Whip-smart, focused, thorough, helpful and knowledgeable. Jeannie managed to process my referrals in a timely fashion, and one was super fast, as I need pain management. Thank you Jeannie! She really went to bat for me, and everyone at Growing Healthy Together hit a home run for me and I am grateful! James and Anna are saints, and every interaction I have had with the staff have been efficient and helpful. Growing Healthy Together lives up to its' name. It is rare to find a health care provider that is so connected, well rounded and balanced. They take ample time with each visit, and Kelsey asked LOTS of questions to insure a correct diagnosis. The communication between patients and providers is exemplary! They respond quickly to questions and concerns. Kelsey even called me at home, personally, when a situation was urgent. I am here to share my very short lived experience with GHT. I live in Fullerton so the drive to Long Beach is a decent one but it was worth it for my baby to go to a holistic and naturopathic pediatrician, although I have to say they are not holistic or naturopathic at all. The first appointment I had gone to was his 2 month check up where I was made aware of the vaccines she recommended and I let her (Nancy) know that we did not plan on it yet, she then felt the need to inform me if he were to get some of these things he would die, she listed them off but I wasn't paying to much attention because I was in shock that someone would tell me that my first time meeting them. My next appointment would've been his 4 month check up but I canceled it after getting a text to confirm in which they said they required anyone over 2 to where a mask, that's their choice that's not required by OSHA or the CDC so it is their own personal decision to mask anyone over 2 and that is not okay with me and doesn't sound one bit like a holistic environment. At that time I called and let them know that we would not be returning and the lady said okay and that was it. The definition of Naturopathy or naturopathic medicine is "a form of alternative medicine. A wide array of pseudoscientific practices branded as "natural", "non-invasive", or promoting "self-healing" are employed by its practitioners, who are known as naturopaths" So tell me why are they promoting your little one getting the flu shot by saying, "The key to preventing cold and flu is to boost your immunity and get your flu shot." Does that sound like "self healing" to you cause it most certainly does not to me. I can whole heartedly say the most "holistic and naturopathic" thing they do there is use diffusers. read more
