He chatted with us as we waited at our table for our orders. He served our orders and bused our plates too. He does everything and is very personable providing welcoming hospitality. And he's only worked there for a mere 5 weeks. I asked him who the owner is and he directed me to Jerry and Patrice Thompson, two of the nicest folks you'll ever meet. Jerry has a big welcoming personality and a great sense of humor. Fried catfish fillets were excellent! Crust was just right and the fillets were moist. I ate everything in my plate. Peach cobbler was warmed up, we opted to not have it w ice cream, and it is the best in Memphis! Such a long and storied history for this restaurant. We are so glad we came here and will return next time we are in Memphis. My only regret is we were too full to eat fried chicken too.

We first started out with the fried green tomatoes which were so good! I had the turkey and dressing, yams, and turnip green. All delicious and yummy. My daughter got the fried catfish, cabbage, and pickled green tomatoes. I'm not the biggest catfish person, but theirs is really good! Seasoned great. Even though we had so much food, we shared a peach cobbler which we both enjoyed. Staff was very friendly and very attentive. Will definitely be returning again.

Talbert is Jim & Samella's grandson and HE CAN COOOOOOK! On this day, I had one of the best meals I have ever eaten in Memphis! He began with a salad made with veggies from Knowledge Quest. He pickled the fresh vegetables and then sautéed some of them in brown butter. His next course was a Soul Roll with collard greens inside a fried egg roll with yam sauce. We then cleaned off our palates with pineapple sorbet that had small pieces of pineapple inside. The main course was a choice between chicken or oxtail with dressing. The vegetables were green beans or Brussels sprouts as well as sweet potatoes. Dessert was a choice between sweet potato pie, pound cake or bread pudding. I cannot believe how delicious everything was. My chicken was falling off the bone. Everything was so well seasoned. You will never need salt or pepper in this restaurant. The restaurant is located in Talbert's grandparents' actual house. The decor is such that you totally feel at home. It's such a delightful experience!!! What makes this an even better experience is knowing that the restaurant adopted Ida B. Wells Academy to buy school supplies for the kids. I hear on Sundays, they get so packed that you can't get a seat and they run out of food every Sunday. Someone there said "you have to be posted up by 10:30 to get in." The restaurant is only open three days out of the week. They have set menus for each day. I will have to try every single one! This is an INSANELY AMAZING restaurant in the heart of South Memphis.

Fried pork chop, greens, green beans, corn bread, mashed potatoes and a heavenly spiced walnut cake with bourbon glaze, oh and yellow kool-aid. The staff and other guests were friendly and welcoming. This location is a large building with lots of seating options. I had to try Central as it keeps winning awards and is consistently mentioned as the top BBQ place in the Memphis area. Some of their awards were displayed at the entrance and on the walls. Lots of history. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich and had the slaw on the side so I could have it (she's not a slaw fan). I had the small order of ribs with 1/2 dry and 1/2 wet with sides of BBQ Beans and Mac n Cheese. I tried the pulled pork and it was tender and delicious. My ribs were pretty good with my favorite part being the wet ribs. The dry part was overcooked and really dry and chewy. This was a bit of a disappointment. The BBQ beans were flavorful but a bit mushy. The Mac n cheese also mushy a bit but tasted better than it looked. I love great BBQ so I like Central BBQ but may have caught them on a bad day. Oh, they were out of a lot of T Shirt options/size I wanted too. Darn. I wanted to buy one. I would return and try the brisket, pulled pork or poultry items next time.

We had the ribs and pulled pork. The ribs were good and tender and the pulled pork was good but a bit on the dry side. I just used more bbq sauce.
