See previous review.. for whatever reason all photos failed to upload. The food here is good and service is good. It did take a bit to get my food.

It's hard to find Good soul food here in the Central Valley! Great food worth the wait! The owners were very nice & attentive! Thank you for your hospitality & making us feel at home! We'll be back!

Okay but WHY did we forget to take a before pic because this food didn't stand a chance We got the chicken & waffles and wow... the chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and seasoned so good. The waffles were soft with just the right amount of sweetness -- especially with that syrup drizzle Everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. You can tell they don't cut corners. Definitely one of those meals where you're like "wait... this is actually REALLY good." Service was great too, super easy and chill experience. 10/10 -- just trust me and order it (and don't forget your before pic like we did lol)

Stopped by on the way back from LA heading to Sac. Felt like having some soul food. Was very surprised that Tulare had soul food. Who appeared to be the owner was very pleasant. We ordered the breaded ribs, the swai and the mac & cheese. Great prices. Food was tasty. The owner also gave us an extra side of greens. Yummy. The outdoor seating provided cool r&b sounds, but we sat in the car to ate because of a couple of pesky flies.

Kind of expensive for Soul Good served up flavorful dishes unique to the area. I placed my order online and I had a difficult time finding the restaurant front. There was a single sign near an alleyway indicating the location. Unfortunately there wasn't any coleslaw so I had to change to another side when I arrived. Notably there wasn't a lunch special anymore. I ordered the entree plate which included a main and 2 sides. *Fried Swai: wasn't crispy but wasn't heavy nor oily either. There was still a distinct smell to the fish but the salty coating masked some of the fishiness. This was served with hot sauce and remoulade. The hot sauce was very acidic and there wasn't as much heat as desired. The remoulade could have used some of the acidity and I was craving a stronger pickle essence to take away from the saltiness. *Yams: favorite item. There was pleasant browning and sweetness on the yams. These were incredibly rich and tender. This honestly served as a dessert. *Turkey Chili: the sauce was meaty and savory but I wished it had seeped into the turkey. The turkey was still on the chunkier side so the seasoning didn't penetrate the center, leaving some gaminess. Good potential but could have been executed better. Not the cheapest of dining options but I did enjoy the stronger flavors. Most items were flavorful as is so although the sauces weren't the best, I didn't need them. Otherwise, the execution needs some work but there's tons of potential.

Cat fish and greens with a homemade sweet tea..

Just ate lunch with my pops and I'm impressed to say the least . Chef Rock prepared some of the best greens and cat fish I've ever had.. food was fresh and seasoned to perfection. My pops git the Mac and cheese and black eyed peas and he said they were delicious . I'll definitely be back real soon to try everything else on the menu .. If you're looking for some soul food thats made with some love and are in tulare area ,this the spot!!

We were craving soul food; so we were pretty excited when we found this place on Yelp. We drove there ; about five minutes away; kinda hard to find, hidden in an alley with narrow and scarce parking spots. The owner and the staff member greeted us and talked to us about the menu. Made it hard to choose what to order. We went with the two meat and two side option . The meats we chose were the fried fish and the fried ribs ; and greens and Mac and cheese as the sides. I never had fried ribs ; and honestly was craving bbq ribs that fall off the bone smothered in some kick ass bbq sauce. Someone told us the sweet potatoes were good so we added this side for about $6.50. We also added two sweat teas ; which were a dollar each . Took about twenty or so minutes; waited outside on the patio at first( but decided to wait in the car; way too many bugs flying around. Bug spray or those insect repellent lamps, might be a good idea. Felt like I was getting bit up by mosquitoes and nats. When the food was ready we took it home and was excited to dig in. Let's start off with the fish; it was fried and tender; and warm still; tasted pretty good. Then it was the fried rib; ummm let's just say I probably wouldn't order these again. The five cheese Mac and cheese didn't taste like anything I ever had. First it was spiral pasta; being African American elbow pasta is what we're known to use; so this was unusual surprise. Definitely didn't taste five cheeses;one for sure maybe two at the most. The greens were alright; still trying to figure out what kind of diced meat that was. The sweet potatoes; tasted straight from a glory can; just doctored up a bit. Unfortunately was very dissatisfied with this meal completely. The sweet tea was the worst tea I ever had; I was thinking this tea was going to be overly sweet; sweet enough to make my body go into a diabetic coma; however there was absolutely no sugar whatsoever in this tea. It was awful. I had to go home and add sugar just to make it drinkable. Not sure if they tasted it before they served it ; but was missing the key ingredient which was SUGAR. Would I be back? Absolutely not.

I'm actually glad about that, because I found this little gem instead. Nothing fancy, but authentic, and great food. The person that helped me was very friendly. I had a lengua, (tongue) and a Cabeza, (head) taco. I brought them back to my hotel, and they were amazing. So much flavor. The lengua, had a little bit of a "chew", as lengua does, and the Cabeza was just so amazingly rich and tender. I asked for just a little bit of salsa, and they had just a tiny bit of heat to them. They were generous with the fillings, and I really liked the white corn tortilla The cilantro and the onion provided a nice pop of freshness. He also gave me some lemon to squeeze on the tacos, which just added to the flavor. I also had a Horchata, and it was rich and creamy, and it had just the right amount of cinnamon. It was not watered down like I have gotten at other places. The price was reasonable. Thank you for a great midnight snack.

This experience unfortunately wasn't that. Place was quiet, just a few tables seated with people and an empty room. Two servers, both very sweet upon entering and I was quickly seated and I put in my drink order. Don't miss the dessert case as soon as you walk in. As soon as I sat down, things kind of went sideways lol. I asked for a Diet Coke and I was brought coffee for the table. Ok, sure I don't mind a coffee, that's kinda nice. Then I placed my order "corned beef and hash with a side of biscuits and gravy", was told it would be an up charge; no worries. Plus I asked for my Diet Coke and it was good. They got the nice small crunchy ice! Jess got The King Waffle; comes with peanut butter, chocolate drizzle and bananas topped with whip cream and a side of syrup. Here's the thing, instead of biscuits and gravy, I got served pancakes lol. By this time, business had picked up a little bit so it's understandable she wasn't really able to fully stop at the table and just kinda drop and take the other food she has to the other patrons there. A few minutes later she brought the biscuits and gravy and was also kind enough to let us keep the pancakes, That was very nice of her. They were decent pancakes, very big and covered in butter and a side of syrup. If you love pancakes, you'll love these. Corned beef has was ok. It was the homemade style with chunks of corned beef, rather than the typical diner type aka canned looking version I love and genuinely prefer. Especially when it has a nice crisp on it. This plate didn't come with hash browns but it does come with eggs. I asked for cheddar cheese on top and they came out very good! Fluffy, pillowy, very nice. The King Waffle was thick! They do use crunchy peanut butter, Jess didn't know that, so it was a little off putting for her. We just prefer creamy and the fact that it added an extra texture to the overall flavor can be a hit or miss depending on who you are. The whipped cream has a coconut flavor to it, surprisingly nice. Towards the end of our meal, we had another waitress take over our table and she was also nice. She brought us a container, even went and packaged up our desserts. We asked for a cherry pie and a peach cobbler. Both came out to $8, both were not worth $8. We were given an apple pie instead of cherry, the pies crust was dry and dense. The filling was ok, but something started tasting off in the crust so I stopped eating. The peach cobbler had a phenomenal flavor from the peaches, but once we tried warming it up, something white and slimy was in the middle of it, so we threw that out also. $72 dollars for everything we got. I always say tip your staff cause they're the heart of your experience. They treat you good, you do the same. 15% standard but give you what you can. Overall, I think I'm ready to look for another breakfast spot. I gave this spot so much hype after my first experience. I thought especially cause it wasn't as busy this time, we were in for the best experience! That wasn't the case. I just don't see the justification to pay that much to eat here, when there's other locations that might give better quality and an overall better experience.

I write reviews to amplify a business that's noteworthy or to try to add meaningful insight into what my experience was like at a restaurant if it's worth sharing. That said, I saw my picture from my meal here and remembered enjoying the meal enough to want to share that. I took the advice of many other reviews and got the mac and cheese burger thing, can't remember the name sorry. It came with tomato soup and fries? Or somehow that's what I ordered. Honestly I could do without the mac and cheese or would rather just have it on the side. It doesn't add to the burger at all, but wasn't bad by itself. The tomato soup was good and I liked having it as a dip for the sandwich. The fries were good and I would have liked a bit more of them, but I can't really complain as I was pretty satisfied in the end. The cashier seemed confused about something and I was confused by our interaction, but in the end I paid for and received food. The interior was not particularly welcoming and I waited longer for my food than I expected to given that I was the only person in there at the time. I'd order ahead next time for sure.
