Came in yesterday. They made us wait out in the cold for them to open 45 minutes late. The staff seemed irritated to be there. After waiting to get in it took 40 minutes to get our food if not longer. We got a few things 1. Fried chicken - it was good, crispy and juicy 2. Ribs - we hated these they were drenched in sauce. I would prefer sauces on the side. It ruined them and they were on the tough side. 3. Rice and gravy - enjoyed this 4. Spaghetti - it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Had a strange aftertaste 5. Spicy cabbage - it was not spicy it was sweet and gooey and it was not good 6. Cornbread - a bit burnt for our liking 7. Lemon pudding cake - this was decent but also overly sweet. By the time we left the staff warmed up to having people there. They also charged 2 dollars for water which I thought was not okay. Water should be free at any restaurant. We paid 6 dollars for koolaid as well which is very high but it was good. Our entire bill was 46 and I feel like for what we got it wasn't a good deal. The restrooms were disgusting. I am not sure if I would be back. I was really looking forward to this place but I'll stick with chef Paul's. read more

Last week my family and I visited Dolls Kitchen family owned restaurant located off of Shaw and Blackstone in Fresno, California. The store sign is visible to see from up close or far away distance. The restaurant has a big screen television to watch a game or what's playing. The menu selection varies and they do offer different daily specials. The banana crème pudding is quite popular and delicious. The food is always on point. The staff is eager to help you navigate the menu options if it's your first time eating there. Soul food haven indeed, left feeling like my soul and belly got fed. Got the spicy fish dinner with potato salad and yams and it came with a slice of cornbread. The fish was crispy, flaky, and very well seasoned. They make their potato salad in my favorite style so no complaints there. Yams were nice and sweet. They make your main to order so don't come here expecting fast-food service, you're getting quality over speed here. I came on for lunch today. I ordered the 2 pc chicken dinner. This comes with 2 sides. I asked for both sides to be mac n cheese. When I arrived I was informed my bill was just over $18. According to the menu board behind the cashier, it clearly says my order should be $14.99. I asked why the charge was so high. She said she has to charge me an extra dollar for the "double mac" I was advised that it costs a lot to make macaroni and cheese and they have to charge extra if I want it for both of my sides. It doesn't say that anywhere on the menu. My social anxiety was beginning kick in so I just paid to escape. I looked at my receipt they charged me $16.99 even though their menu clearly says $14.99. Then they charged me an extra dollar on top of that for literally 2 scoops of macaroni and cheese. This is just honestly mac n cheese..not lobster mac? How is it so expensive? Why did they charge me more than what's on the menu? This happened last time as well, she did take off the extra money and I chalked it up to an accident. But now, I'm not so sure. The food is good, but I like to know that I'm going to be charged what's on the menu board and not be charged extra arbitrary fees. I don't think I'll be back. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while especially since it has high SEO visibility for soul food in Fresno on Google, and is one of Fresno's og soul food spots! Unfortunately if you're looking for amazing chicken, I would not recommend getting the 2pc chicken combo at this place. Perhaps it was not a great day, but it was lacking salt and seasoning! It just felt like plain old fried chicken. I loved my sides of spaghetti and corn bread, especially the corn bread, which was subtly sweet and savory. Also, the mac and cheese looked white, as if it wasn't made with cheddar cheese (maybe their own twist?), but it was surprisingly flavorful. The banana pudding had a bright yellow dye and was overly sweet. It was good for a few bites and then the artificial banana powder started sinking in. It was okay, but I've had better. I also wish it had more cookie chunks inside. I'd like to try other things next time to still support them; maybe their oxtail and greens are more promising. I have been anticipating eating here for weeks and Doll's did not disappoint! The food was even better than I had been dreaming of. My husband and I went for lunch and split the Leo Platter which I saw featured on their Instagram - it's a combo of fried fish, fried shrimp, and fried chicken plus two sides and a cornbread (we ordered one extra cornbread too). We also got a slice of Chocolate Oreo cake. Every single bite of the meal was fantastic. So many times with a ton of fried food it starts to feel regrettable but every bite of this was on point. I have never had such crispy, not greasy, well seasoned fried fish. Insane. And the shrimp were so good - definitely spicy but in a good, flavorful way. The chicken was so juicy and good too. The mac and cheese was delicious and flavorful and not like so grossly over cheesy like it can be. Lots of flavor. We loved the yams and the cornbread too. Don't sleep on the desserts because that cake was so moist and yummy and I cannot wait to go back when they post their red velvet cheesecake special because they definitely have a strong dessert game. It's hard to rate this because the food is amazing which is what you go there for. But I've been a few times and sometimes they do run out of things. Such as deserts or the punches. Reviewed the menu and decided on the 4pc meal to share since neither my husband nor I was too hungry. The wait was not too long, as we decided to dine in. I hadn't been feeling well so I just needed some comfort food... ordered the chicken & fish plate with extra mac and greens (asked for some cornbread and they graciously gave me a piece! Made my day -gotta come in one day so I can tip them extra!) The greens were so flavorful! Mac was creamy and delicious! The chicken and fish tho!!
