This place is new to me, but I understand it had only recently reopened under new management. Now, I moved here from a predominantly Italian community and state known for the amazing restaurants. So, my measuring stick is pretty high and I expected to be using unimpressed. I was pleasantly surprised! We were greeted and seated right away. The atmosphere is very casual and there were families present, as well as singles, young people and seniors. The decor is unremarkable, but it was bright and clean. The noise level was very loud, making conversation somewhat difficult. Probably not the best choice first a first date, but we managed. I decided to have the Eggplant Parm, a true test since it is one of my favorite dishes. My date was elated to find they were offering clam chowder, usually available Fridays only (and this was Saturday). He ordered a bowl and was satisfied, along with the bread. It was thick, creamy and received great reviews. My meal was amazing. It was a very generous portion, so that I took half home for the next day. The angel hair pasta was cooked perfectly Al dente, the sauce was delicious and the eggplant was fried perfectly - a tower of thinly sliced heaven with Just enough cheese and plenty of sauce. It did not dry out overnight in my refrigerator, as leftover pasta dishes often do. My only complaint is the noise. We were seated only a few yards away from the entertainment - a woman singer on acoustic guitar - but we could not hear her. After our meal, we asked to be seated in the very full bar area. The hostess and waitress kindly found us a high top. Again, we were close to the stage, directly in front, but unable to enjoy her because of the noise level. I will certainly return, but it's not somewhere for deep conversation or for the entertainment. It's all about the food and, based on my experience, well worth it. read more

My husband and I had not eaten here since the business changed hands. When we walked in the first thing we noticed was that the bar which was always packed on a Tuesday night was completely empty. We also noticed that the place had gotten a facelift. The bar is now sleek black granite and there's a nice coat of white paint on the walls. SERVICE We were greeted by a waitress who told us we could choose any of the high tops so we sat down and waited for someone to take our drink order. We then waited what seem like an unusually long time before someone took our drink order. The waitress who served us clearly needed a personality transplant because she was as unfriendly a waitress as I have ever experienced. We also noticed that most of the staff was new and that all of the former staff seemed to be gone. We thought that was unfortunate as some had worked there for many years. FOOD We both ordered the veal, mine was Marsala his was Parmesan. The veal was decent, the marsala wine sauce was very thin, but it had a lot of mushrooms, and the flavor was good. I opted for a side of mashed potatoes and vegetable and was deeply disappointed. The potatoes were like glue and the vegetables were too undercooked. They were hard to eat. My husband liked his Veal Parmesan and said it was very good. The meals came with salad and bread, the salads were good but The bread was a bit stale. We did notice that the menu was exactly the same as it had been under the old ownership, however, the prices have increased dramatically. That may be the reason that the place was so empty. I will say they make a mean martini and the prices of the drinks were quite reasonable. UPDATE: We went back last week and I have to say it was still super quiet but we had a much friendlier server this time. We decided to try the famous Sabatinos pizza. It was just okay and not as good as the pizza that Sorrento served under the old owners. We were underwhelmed. However the Martinis were great and the service was better. We will go back. read more

As often happens, it seems that some of the reviews for Sorrento are either: 1) written on a bad night. 2) written by a jealous competitor. 3) written by one of "those" customers. 4) old and before changes were made. Our first and only (so far) experience at Sorrento was last Thursday, March 6th, and everything was SPECTACULAR! Our server (Ally) was attentive and extremely sweet. The portions were reasonable, (Chicken Francesse and Chicken Marsala) and the flavor was magnificent. The restaurant itself is very clean, as were the bathrooms. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying their dinner as well. We will be back again! read more

We just went for dinner at Sorrento, the service and space was horrible. It took us entirely too long to wait for our server to take our order as well as order additional drinks. One of our guests did not enjoy the pepperoni calzone and when telling the server she did not enjoy it, she responded "why? it's the most popular thing on the menu?". After working in the service industry for over 10 years, THIS IS NOT HOW YOU PROMPT THE CONVERSATION! Further, she was inclined to tell us, after we paid the bill, that they were unable to take the calzone off due to the manager and told us they packed it up for us to take home, "just in case we wanted it later"?????? Awww what a disapointment, first time here since it opened under new owners. First thing music was very loud head banging crap, other people complained and it was turned down. Been coming here for years and only get the fruit di mari which has been the best anywhere. Today we both got it and they served it with 5 unopened littleneck clams on both disher, anyone knows if the clams dont open discard them, the sauce was flavorless, what happened here? As 15 year Milford residents, Sorrento's was one of our three favorite places for informal food. That was until the "re-make" of the restaurant. Tonight we ordered the Gorgonzola pizza, a long time favorite, for take out and ended up throwing half of the $20 pizza in the trash. In particular: - The crust was absolutely leathery, requiring serious chewing effort to make it swallow-able. - The Gorgonzola bits could be counted on your fingers (and almost one hand) - Even the base cheese mix was thin and over cooked. - The Asparagus seemed to be almost entirely 1/4 to 1/2 inch stem trimmings from when the cook was making something else. Again, tough and chewy. After waiting months for the restaurant to reopen, we find we've lost one of Milford's jewels. Combined with the price increases (almost double the price for the lasagna), we will not be back. read more

We have been eating here for years and never had a bad experience. This (6/9/24) was the first time we've been to Caffe Sorrento with the new management and "disappointed" is an understatement. We ordered the Chicken Pancetta Alfredo, Steak Tips, Chicken Alfredo, Pepperoni Pizza, and kid's Chicken Fingers w/fries. The only decent item was the pizza. Everything else had no flavoring and seemed to lack salt (even the chicken fingers). We each ordered a soda which was served to us in plastic cups and halfway through our meal we each got a refill. However, when we got the bill we found out that they charge for refills. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant that charges you for refills on fountain drinks. I can understand if they're serving you a can or bottle but not from a soda fountain. Unfortunately, it seems as though we will not be returning here again. read more

Take Out Order Totally Wrong and OVER CHARGED: I ordered 3 pasta/meatball meals. For the side dishes, one salad, one chicken soup, one pasta faggioli. When I arrive, the woman read back the order, mentioned the salad but failed to mention the soups. I said, we also have the two soups. She picked up the paper she wrote the order on and said, yes I forgot to put those in. She added them and said she would go check my bag, and add the soups. I paid for the order and left. When I got home, no salad, no chicken soup, and FOUR PASTA FAGGIOLI. When I looked at the receipt, I was charged for 2 additional soups (which weren't that good btw). I don't live close...so we threw the extra soups away....and I got stuck paying another 10.00 for something we didn't order. The receipt does have the salad listed too as a side, but never made it into the bag. My LAST time going here. It's too bad, it used to be one of our go to's. read more

A review of both dining in and takeout pizza. Dining in can be very good, or just OK. Consistency lacks. I have had the eggplant parm where it was excellent and where it was not great at all. Got takeout pizza recently which was dry, dry, dry. A pitiful amount of sauce, even on the pizza which we asked for extra sauce. Nothing worse than a pizza with not enough sauce. Leftover slices went into the trash...which is a shame. Not heading back anytime soon. read more

I just had my first meal in a long time here and I'm sorry I didn't come back sooner. I had the real parmesan with housemade gnocchi. The Beale was tender and lightly battered. The marinara was delicious with just the right amount of spice to make it flavorful without overwhelming the accompanying meal. The gnocchi were tender and creamy, but a little bit gummy. That's one of the reasons why I gave them 4 stars. My son had a small cheese pizza which he proclaimed the best he ever had. The waitress was a bit curt but efficient. The food came out quickly after we ordered and we felt a bit rushed. Overall, it was a great experience and we will be back! read more

Tiny hole in the wall Italian place with average food and average prices. They have the typical variety of Italian food and nothing really blew me away where I thought it was amazing food. The service was fair and didn't blow me away. When we went it was pretty empty and did take a while for our food to come out. Terrible! Clams are closed and could make you sick. Sauce tastes like crushed tomatoes and no flavor, never understood why they but the worst bread to put out. It's either stale or simply awful. Really wanted to like it here but had a pretty subpar first and likely last experience. Went on a whim on a Sunday afternoon. (They also only do their pricey dinner menu Sunday apparently). The bread they brought out was stale and my friend sent back the steak tips cause the meat clearly smelled off like it had gone bad, yet they still cooked it anyways. This time it was blah, the salad was uninspired iceberg lettuce with a few slices of tomato, cucumber and onions, with dull as you can get Italian dressing, that tasted like it was right out of a gallon container. The last time my wife ordered the Shrimp Alfredo and we needed to have the pasta re-cooked as it was undercooked in a big way. Today my chicken parmigiana was dry and overcooked. The pasta side was undercooked again, and the sauce hardly had any flavor, where was the garlic? Full prices though.. Great local Italian restaurant. I have come here a few times over the years and will continue to come back. This restaurant is on the cheaper side (both with pricing and general vibe) but the food is still incredible! You can expect a friendly waitstaff and great homemade Italian food. They give great portion sizes, too. I had a Cesar salad (good), spaghetti and meatballs with homemade pasta (incredible) and homemade tiramisu (incredible). Yum! read more

This place was a classic old place for good basic Italian food...those days are clearly over. Four of us went on a Monday night, food quality has just plummeted. All four basic pasta dishes were not even warm, waitress forgot appetizers and they came out after our meal. Appetizers were also cool, not warm and obviously rushed...chicken 'wing dings' are clearly frozen Tyson wings and purely awful. Waitress spilled water on table and then brought a stack of towels for us to clean out area...she also took away three drinks that we half full. This was a complete fail. read more

Went to Caffe Sorrento on 2/10/24 and was very disappointed. Ordered the shrimp scampi, the shrimp was burnt on one side which was the side that was down on the pasta. The shrimp was tiny and nasty. The orders were mixed up and three people got the wrong order. I've been going here for years and never had a problem. I don't think I'll go back again. Have been to an event upstairs and got take out once. Take out didn't travel well and wouldn't do it again. The event was average as far as food goes, room was ok for smaller parties. I'm Italian and have eaten at at least 50 different Italian places and it's just average for me. Not really a fan of thier red sauce. These guys really know how to cook with garlic. Their grilled polenta is smokey. The only negative about this place is the atmosphere. Sometimes you go there and they have live music. My wife and I went to lunch here, ordered off the dinner menu. We started with Fried Calamari $10, the description said "large portion" and it wasn't kidding. The big platter with the mozzarella sauce was crispy and cooked well, but unfortunately it was bland. For the main course, I ordered the Veal Cacciatore $17, polento. My wife ordered the Veal Margarita $16. Both came with a side salad and basket of italian bread. The meal's came out after about 15 minutes, piping hot. My dish was good. The sauce had a good flavor, wasn't to watery. The veal was cooked right and the egg plant was tender. My wife's dish however.. pretty disappointing. It was basically angel hair pasta, topped with veal, cheese and tomato( see pictures). The noodles had no flavor. It was a boring dish and could have used some other herbs or lite sauces to give it some taste. My wife used my left over sauce to add to her dish to try and add a little zest. There are so many other italian restaurants around to try, we will not be coming back to this one. read more

Yup,my name is Karen and I'm going to complain. Went here with a friend on a Thursday evening. While the decor is dated, that doesn't really matter me. It's an inexpensive, neighborhood restaurant. The food was good and the portions were large. I got the ravioli and my friend a bacon pizza and salad. Nothing fancy, but it was tasty and we had no complaints. Had this been just about the food I'd be back. The service was horrendous. The waitress seemed put out from the second we sat down. I asked "What's good here?' and she responded with a bitchy "It's typical Italian. I don't know. Chicken parm?" The bitchy, snide attitude continued throughout the whole meal despite our attempts to be friendly. Why are you a waitress if you clearly hate people? We go back and forth until she finally names off the drafts and I select a Shock Top. Waited quite some time, she comes back and asks if I decided...tried to ask her about a dish but she seemed to be in too much of a hurry to accommodate any questions. What I noticed...she seemed happy waiting on the regulars she knew (all smiles and happy banter) but her demeanor towards me and another gentleman at the bar was lacking. I started with the Stuffed Mushrooms - mushroom caps stuffed with crab meat stuffing and topped with mozzarella cheese. Sadly it looks good but the crabmeat stuffing wasn't close and the dish needed salt & pepper just to give it some flavor. The garden salad served with the meal was good and the greens were crisp and the ranch dressing good. I was annoyed but I was past the point asking for anything...no bread. Two other couples at the bar...she asked them if they wanted bread with their meal and delivered. Chicken Marsala - sautéed chicken with mushrooms in a Marsala wine butter sauce was a big disappointment. I did not recognize the sauce as a Marsala wine sauce although it did have a sweet flavor to it. The chicken while cooked, but had a bland flavor and the pasta could have stayed in the water just a minute or two longer. First and last time going there. The food was not good, I ordered the surf and turf with a side of pasta they didn't have the sirloin so they asked to substitute tenderloin tips so I said that was okay my wife ordered a seafood medley with vegetables and mashed potato. Well the tenderloin tips were just cut up sirloin with no flavor all and the scallops were supposed to be seared I'm not sure what they were and the side pasta was in same dish with the steak juices. My wife said the seafood was okay not great and the mashed potato was cold and she didn't eat any. The only reason for 2 stars my drink was decent but not a good reason to ever go back. read more

Salad was good but for the main dish the little neck clams were tightly closed, they never opened. Told the waitress and she said she would get some more clams. But, it's a smaller establishment, so it was quite loud and hard to hear the waitress, never mind the person I was sitting across from. Holy wow. This was honestly the worst meal I've ever had. I can't even believe all the reviews saying the food is good here. Has no one in Milford ever had decent Italian food? My husband and I split a chicken francese, subbing ravioli for the pasta ($3 upcharge for the ravioli and $4 for the split entree). It came with straciatella soup, and I ordered a boulevardier cocktail. The bread served was sliced scali cut in half, with two different brands of butter in those little packages. The cocktail was poorly made, but I don't waste whiskey, so I drank it. It tasted like a cup of Campari. What a shame. The food was a joke. The stracciatella soup was bland and sad looking. The chicken francese was a crime against Italian food. The chicken was over cooked and the coating was soggy. This definitely wasn't made fresh. I would guess it was made days ago and microwaved in a flavorless, watery sauce that was supposed to be lemon butter. Nothing was seasoned. The ravioli were almost definitely store bought, served in what is probably a jarred sauce. My $3 got 5 bland ravioli. We ate it because we were hungry, and have been regretting it since. The place is dirty. They have Christmas garland hanging around the ceiling that is caked in dust. The seams of the chairs are filled with crumbs from some other sad meal. The wooden divider walls were splattered. I regret ever stepping foot in this place, and urge you not to make the mistake I did. Don't eat here! read more
