We've been to this Edmonton staple a couple of times in the last year, and enjoyed both times. It's an institution here, or so we've been told, but sometimes institutions get a little long in the tooth. Not the case here in our opinion. The space itself is understated but classic Italian in Canada. The pizza oven is central and the patio, which we dined on last Summer is a lovely feature. The service is top notch, but not over the top. Our server this time was very engaging, with a dry sense of humour and fun. The lovely K's steak was cooked to perfection, the potatoes done exactly right and the veggies done to her delight. My Penne Arrabiata was very nicely cooked, a little toothsome which I prefer and the sausage was nicely hot in the sauce. The bread they provide is very nice, although I'd like to see more balsamic in the olive oil to dip. Our martini's were spot on, the Puglian Chardonnay excellent, and the overall experience will certainly have us coming back again. read more

Sorrentino's is an Edmonton staple for authentic Italian. While I wasn't wowed with this visit, I wasn't disappointed either. Nothing stood out to woo me, so I won't be rushing back any time soon. Service here was par for the course, again, nothing spectacular but nothing wrong. She did a great job. What I would expect from Sorrentino's! Our server was cheerful and friendly, attending to our needs and was efficient. I could tell she was definitely busy, but she never made us feel rushed. Our drinks were always full and plates cleared as they were emptied. The food was good. Not spectacular, but good value. The star of the show was the Brie and Fig Bruschetta! I'd definitely order that again. Sorrentino's is the Keg of Italian food! That's the best way I can describe it. Consistent and comforting. The cocktails were awesome! Sorrentino's West has recently undergone some major renovations. The dining room is tastefully decorated. Some booth style seating, dining room seating and higher top seating as well. I ordered takeout from here to be ready for 5:30PM. I arrived and my order was waiting for me. I tried the Fettuccine Bolognese $27.50 (full order)- 8/10. So pricey for the portion - not worth it in my opinion, was almost the exact same size as the "small orders". Also, not enough sauce. Noodles were perfectly cooked. Penne Mediterranean $20.90 (small order)- 8/10. I loved the feta, sundried tomato and mushrooms but the noodles were quite bland/no sauce to cover them. I like that it comes with chicken/a protein. Spaghetti Carbonara $19.80 (small order)- 11/10 sooooo delicious. 100% would get this again. Super creamy, noodles were cooked well, nice small pieces of pancetta. read more

Always great service. Solid family restaurant. This month is Garlic Festival! Garlic clam chowder-unexpected and really good. We've tried a number of garlic dishes including garlic knots and garlic flatbread. All excellent. The staff are always welcoming and even if not serving you, make a point of coming over to Chat. This is a really rare gesture in the 2020's. It contributes to the neighbourhood favourite vibe. So for family restaurant 5/5. read more

A large scale Italian restaurant located in Edmonton. There are a ton of locations around the city. This one is located in a. Plaza with ample parking. The service here is great. Very attentive and quick! The food all came out well. I enjoyed the lamb shank a lot. It was cooked so tender and not gamey. The roasted vegetables complimented the lamb shank well. I love a cozy Italian place and this place embodies it perfectly. Show up on a Friday night without a reso, good luck to you. Place was packed wall to wall with people who obviously knew where to be for supper. We had a couple killer cocktails to start. I usually get a Negroni pre meal for a nice dinner out and this place has taken the mighty Negroni to new levels! So I couldn't quite wrap my head around it all but it has something to do with barrel aging premixed Negroni's for like 6 months...it was thee best one I've ever had in my life by a mile. The GF had fancy version of gin and juice which didn't last very long let me tell you We started with a pretty classic Burrata and tomato salad with aged balsamic, nice and fresh Then moved on to 2 excellent mains, spicy penne with sausage and red sauce. Was just a perfect rendition of a classic dish. Al dente pasta and full of flavour. She had another classic...chicken scalappine. This was definitely rich but it was excellent nevertheless. Finished with this chocolate lava cake soufflé thing which was absolutely incredible...definitely had zero room after this feast. The wine and cocktail pricing was certainly reasonable and if you go in on a Wednesday it's bring your own wine night free of charge (free corkage basically)!! Solid Italian restaurant. Great place to take families out because multi generations will find something here. Pasta is good and consistant but not standoutish. And a little pricey. Service was indifferent. I think that there are many other Italian restaurants that can be supported, but if you need to get a whole lot of people together and find something for everyone this would be the place for you. read more

The best Sorrentino's location in Edmonton by far! All our dishes were amazing. Very filling, large portions and overall great flavour. They start the table with warm bread and oil/balsamic for dipping. Both the food and ambiance make this location superior. Service was also very good and staff were attentive to our needs. read more

I had originally come to a cooking class with my coworkers years ago, but rarely got over to this side of town. Until now. I virtually live around the corner. And being this close to this Sorrentino's is one of the highlights! I feel guilty taking a table from a full party, since it's usually just me, so I sit at the bar, and really enjoy seeing the food being made right in front of me. The servers are super friendly, and the food is transcendental. Seriously. Everything I've eaten here has been amazing. The arancini, the bruschetta (tomato, mushroom and brie [with fig preserves! Yum!], and the penne arrabiate. For dessert, the tiramisu is the best I've tasted since Italy, and I've also tried some sort of lemon torta. The other night, they had a special summer menu, and I sampled the brie bruschetta, a glass of the Tomaresca Calabria Rosato Salento IGT, and strawberries with gelato. It knocked my socks off. I really like this place, and I have a feeling I'll like it more the next time I come. I am really impressed with the menu and I can't wait to try some of the wines, appetizers and other entrees. It was a fantastic selection. Unfortunately the dish I chose was a three out of five for me. It was the braised short rib ravioli with sage. I've never tried a dish like that before and I was thinking short rib was just the thing for a frigid late summer day. At first I was disappointed with the portion size, because I was starving. Strangely enough, it was perfectly filling and stuck to my ribs for hours afterwards. Very satisfying, despite the very present flavor of sage. I found the herb a little overpowering, but that's because they used the fresh stuff, not cheap dried flakes from a plastic container. I guess I'll try something different next time. I had the seasonal salted caramel cheesecake for dessert, and that was as good as it gets. I tried my friend's chocolate tart, and I understand why she didn't finish it. Honestly that chocolate shell wrecked it. I don't even remember what the mousse tasted like because the shell was awful. Like a hard store bought cookie. But there are other options we can try next. As I mentioned, we'd like to come back. I think my favorite thing was the service. Our host and server treated us like they knew us for years, but none of us had ever been there before. We came back for dinner and I strongly recommend reservations. We arrived just before 6 and the place was getting busy. I called a half hour earlier and they were able to fit us in. Our server was an older man, and the service was poor. He came to our table no more than 6 times; get our drink orders, plop down our drinks, bring us each a slice of bread, take away our plates, bring our bill, and take our payment. There was no asking how our food was (I think the manager came to do that), no refilling our drinks (I had to ask the hard working busboy to do that), and no asking if we would like another piece of bread (I guess they don't offer that). He spent a total time at our table of less than 1 minute. No, he was much too busy with the other tables that were drinking alcohol, ordering desserts and coffees, and likely provide him with a greater percentage of tip. The food was good so it wasn't a fail, portion size are a bit smaller but still ample amount of seafood with squid, clams, mussels, shrimp, and scallops. And the bread was delicious with the oil to dip. After this experience, I would only want to come back if the service was better but with no guarantees, it will probably be a long time before I step into this restaurant. read more

Enjoyed a lovely date night on a Saturday. The restaurant was quite full but we had great service and a really great meal. The appetizer trio was delicious and didn't leave us too full (we had the tomato bruschetta, arancini and sausage). I ordered penne pasta with rose sauce and it was delicious. I'm writing this after coming home from a super disappointing visit here tonight. First day the patios are back open and my anniversary with my partner. We figured we'd for go for a nicer dinner at Sorrentino's rather than a gastro pub... we're regretting that now. I was able to make a reservation for 7 and we were promptly seated on the patio. It's absolutely beautiful, however, the beautiful bushes, flowers and trees attract a lot of bugs. Anyways, we waited a while for the waitress to come over and then we ordered the mussels to start, my partner had the veal cannelloni with the mixed sauce and I had the prawns and salmon with potato and veg. This is different than our regular order of lasagna and pescatore pasta, but we thought, "what the hell!" That was our second mistake. The entrees took forever and then my salmon was over cooked. The waitress had my salmon remade but the sauce was overpowering and one of the vegetables was fennel... that's a first. By the time my salmon came out (the second time), my partner had finished their meal. We usually have really good food but not today and the service was only subpar. The waitress said she'd comp a free dessert next time we visited but we know she won't remember us. My recommendation is to go somewhere else where the staff and owner value your business. A lot of other restaurants will actually pay attention when you state your reservation is for a celebration. read more

We had a horrible experience at Sorrentino's. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the food was decent, the service however was horrendous. Our experience started by being asked by the hostess if we had a reservation, which we did. She then proceeds to call over another staff to complain that someone seated a walk in which "screwed her". We finally get seated about 5 minutes later, and no sooner then I sit in my chair, the staff comes over to tell us it's a busy night and they need to table in an hour and a half. Date night was amazing. Stopped in there on our way to Edmonton. Veal cannelloni was purely delicious, service was great and the atmosphere was warm and relaxing. My girlfriend used to live in the area over 20 years ago and would eat there on occasion. We were introduced to the owner and it was lovely to hear the history of the restaurant. Of the Sorrentino's locations in Edmonton, this is only the second, after downtown, that I can recommend. There is some real variation between locations in this restaurant group, perhaps it's because each restaurant has it's own chef and consequently it's own menu (there are some chain-wide mainstays). This location is a little more laid back than the Downtown restaurant. The wine list is a little more accessible and there is outdoor seating. Like the downtown restaurant, pasta dishes are good, but it's the non-pasta dishes that are really worth trying. This is a good family night out, good for groups and celebrations or even a light meal out on the patio with a bottle of Orvieto. read more

My first memorable experience with Italian food was at this location. It has changed over the years, however we have never stopped coming back. The customer service and food have been excellent. Their dishes sizes have also been a perfect size: not too big and not too small, with no sacrifice in quality. Believe it or not their wine selection is bigger than their dinner menu. Sounds like a good night to me! Luckily their wine list is very diverse and features a lot of exotic wines. Don't be fool by this comparison though, their dinner selection is very good. They always have interesting creations for their soup of the day: last time was butternut squash which was perhaps the best I've tasted in the country- not too sweet but with a rich flavor. Their New York Striploin is always a hit as well. Note that they cook their steaks one 'level' higher than how you would normally find it at other restaurants (ex: order a medium rare and their cooking style is more medium). The cooking staff are also very accommodating and willing to make adjustments to the dishes, such as the exclusion of certain spices or changing their cooking sauce. This location is always busy and a reservation is recommended. We had lived in the area an embarrassing number of years before we visited the first time- unfortunately we believed some word of mouth from acquaintances who did not like this restaurant. They were so wrong. The food is excellent as is the service. We particularly enjoy sharing a few appetizers- don't miss the gamberi -with salad and wine for a light satisfying meal in a relaxing setting. I called the restaurant thinking they must have made a mistake and sent me a kids one. The manager was rude and didn't care. Italian restaurants don't normally stand a chance with me........ I've been some of the best places in Montreal and the one place in Seattle that was incredible. But this place completely ambushed me - their service was outstanding as were their cocktails. They took really good care of us but it was the food that blew me away. I asked our server what I should choose between two options and I took her suggestion - the braised short rib. Mind blown. Honestly, this was as good as some of the killer Italian meals I've had in Montreal - it was that good. My wife and I came to Sorrentino's for a quiet birthday dinner. We had a reservation for 5:30 which we apparently didn't need because it was pretty slow when we got here. (This was a Tuesday.) The friendly maitre d quickly greeted us and showed us to our table and our waiter was on hand to bring us some bread and take our drink orders right away. I ordered the Penne Arrabbiate (I can't pronounce it but I can spell it.) It's basically pasta with sausage and spicy tomato sauce. I enjoyed the meal but I thought it was a little on the mild side. When I see the word 'spicy' in the description I expect it to have more of a kick to it. The waiter made several trips to our table to ask how everything was tasting and to refill our drinks. We were asked by two different staff members if we wanted pepper or extra cheese. If you want more bread you'll have to ask for it because they didn't offer to bring anymore to the table. There are a few reviews here that talk of the inattentive service they received at this restaurant. We didn't experience that sort of thing this time around so it must depend on whom you get as a server or perhaps the time of day you dine here. Like I said, it was pretty sedate when we first arrived but by 6 PM it was starting to fill up. It was as if someone had flipped the busy switch. Okay, we've given this place several chances over the years and it seems to be getting worse. Tonight Tues Sept 20, 2016 we arrived at 8:15pm for a late dinner and the restaurant's busy period was slowly disappearing. The host was gracious and quite friendly. Our waitress Joanne took forever to come back to our table once she dropped off our drinks (hot water with lemon, ice water, coke) and the drinks were NOT placed in front of each person. Joanne was pleasant when she did come back to get our orders and give us bread with balsamic/olive oil (no flavor, tasted like light olive oil... need to get a better quality balsamic!). The homemade lasagna, Penne Mediterrean, Mushroom Harvest event Rigatoni all looked beautiful...but that's it. The rigatoni's "sauce" was watery, chicken was hard/overcooked, weak flavor given all the mushroom variety. The penne was overpowering with garlic (not even garlic festival time), sauce also anemic & watery, cubed feta (??). The 2 inch square piece of lasagna was tasteless and lonely on the plate. Our waitress came back only to ask if we needed parmesan or pepper. Not once did we get our drinks refilled. Maybe they could have given the ice water, hot water, and coke in a bigger glass so they don't have to refill. We were so thirsty and no one (the host, the 3 other waitresses walking around) bothered to look our way as we tried flagging someone down. Expensive terrible food that they're trying to pass off as Italian. Service was ridiculously non-existent. Tastefully decorated...maybe that's all they have going for it. Upon happenstance we were wandering around 170 street and landed at Sorrentinos for dinner. Hearing about Sorrentinos from their garlic festival we deciided it would be a good decision. We arrived to a packed dining area, but was seated fairly quickly at a big spacious booth. I loved the interior layout with well spaced tables, and beautiful lights. We were greeted by our server Rafat who had a fair knowledge of the wine and when asked gave ample suggestions to pair with our food. With a large bread stick for each of us, a bowl of balsamic vinegar and olive oil was brought out to us after we ordered. I do not know how they did it but it was the exact amount of balsamic and olive oil that we needed and was absolutely delectable. Our food arrived 30 minutes after and was very mouth watering melt in your mouth kind of food. They definitely know how to pair up their sauces with the meats. I had the halibut with ground pitachios which was palatable. After the meal I was kinda surprised to find that they did not offer a dessert menu. Other plans were in motion where we had a complimentary summer dessert of a meringues and berries. I was full but I could not stop eating it and it was sweet and yummy. I think it might of been because we had taken pictures of our food but I have no idea if they are biased like that. After giving a big tip the server thanked us profusely. We were at sorrentinos tonight. Actually we eat at sorrentinos at least once a week. Tonight we saw something that was so offensive. We split a meal as we usually do. I think the waitress had forgot to tell the chef we were splitting. He had a total fit and berated the waitress in a a completely unprofessional manner. This is an open kitchen and many of the customers could hear what was going on. I felt so bad for our waitress as he was Totally disrespectful to her. Who lets there chef act like that no matter how good of a chef he is. He needs to be told to have respect to fellow employees and to understand customers are watching. I was completely appalled. I went last night with a dear friend with whom we try to go out from time to time. She had been to this Sorrentino before and remembered it being good food and reasonable service. We got in and were quickly seated. Though the "host" told us this was a "really good table" given the "noise, out there" once he left, my girlfriend and I just looked at each other and she commented, "this MUST be the 'break up booth'"... I looked at her and we both laughed....however, little did we realize that it was not only the "break up booth" but also, the "black hole booth" where you are left for 45 minutes to not have a soul come to even ask you if you want more water or if your food is any good or what you expected....which, it was NOT :-( So, the waiter comes to get our orders and does give us a few moments to find a wine and choose our food. As we give him our orders, he "remembers" to tell us the specials once my friend asked him what the "Fish of the Day" was. He tells us the Halibut and goes into to detail as to the vegetables that come with it and so he takes our orders and we get on with our visiting and chatting. Our wine and salads arrive, timely :-).... My first question arises: Why is there shaved scamorza (aka North American 'mozzarella' cheese") on my green salad? We finish our salad, keep chatting and our waiter comes to take our dishes and then returns after about 10 minutes with our main courses. She ordered the HALIBUT and I ordered the Gnocchi Bava. Upon receiving them, their look told me they had been sitting a bit as the "fontina cheese" based sauce had that little pattina of having sat under the lights waiting to be picked up. For my friend, the Hallibut never arrived....rather it was SALMON. Now, you ask, "Why did your friend tell him right away about the fish?" He came and went SO quickly, that we didn't even get a chance to get in a word once he asked if we wanted any pepper added to our meals and off he went.....and did NOT come back for 45 minutes. Once my friend noticed, she had, WE had hoped to have seen him but then again, when you are in the BLACK HOLE BOOTH, it is hard to see anything...really, it is in the farthest back corner of the restaurant with a side wall that creates a type of corridor ....you have to walk at least 5-6 feet to see the rest of the restaurant. So, it was either GET UP to find him or just eat and let him know once he finally showed up. Which he did....eventually, once we were completely done. Upon telling him the mix up, he quickly noted, "No, that can't be...I have been telling everyone all evening about the Salmon being the special." My friend kindly indicated that if she had heard "Salmon" she would not have ordered it and ordered something else. Again, he quickly took our plates and then said something quickly about "going to my manager to let him know". This is fine, however, he also said something to the effect of "doing something for you" which is not what she wanted. She just wanted to let him know he got the order wrong. He left and finally, we got some more water (yes, this is to what ends we were at....we didn't get our water refilled but ONCE the whole evening) and also he asked if we wanted dessert. For dessert, we asked if they had Prosecco by the glass and he said "no" only by the Spit or Full Bottle. We ordered the Spit to split and our desserts. He came back a bit later and brought us two glasses indicating that they were "compliments" of the manager for the mistake he had made (??!! ...didn't you just get done telling us that you don't sell Prosecco by the glass). We kindly took it and our desserts came. We enjoyed them and once done, we sat a few minutes to chat, but don't you know he was like a BULLET when it came to us needing to pay. He showed up in the middle of our concluding chat with machine in hand quickly asking, "Will you be paying by debit or credit card"? I just looked at my friend as he left the machine and wasn't too far away....he quickly did the transaction and off he went not before "apologizing for his accent and mistake on the order" (why he apologized for his accent I don't understand since we understood him fine) and wished us a good evening.... In the end, thanks to the wonderful company I had before me, it was a WONDERFUL and FUN evening to chat, laugh and catch up with my friend.... My first experience at this restaurant went well. I'd come here to celebrate my b-day before, so for our second visit, my hubby and I decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary here....and what a let down!!! We made a reservation as per usual. Our food was really good: it was tasty and fulfilling. Our waiter was really nice and polite, but the manager, not so much.... The story: So we brought our own wine. Before ordering, I asked the waiter if we were allowed and if we were going to be charged for it (keep in mind my hubby and I are not from this city, so we were unaware of the laws that applied. Which is why we asked the waiter, duh!!!!!) The waiter said we were allowed and that we were not going to be charged. So, halfway through our meal, the manager walks by our table, looks at our wine and says :"we don't offer this wine in our restaurant. Is this from outside?" I was hesitant to answer because I thought he was going to compliment our bottle. Wrong. So wrong. I told him that we had in fact, bought it elsewhere. He then proceeds to tell us that it was going to be an additional 20$ charge because they don't allow such a thing. EUUUUH WHAT?!?! I calmly replied saying that his waiter had told us that we were allowed and that we were not going to be charged. He then says that this waiter was new, that his English skills weren't very good as he was "fresh of the boat" (verbatim) and that perhaps he had misunderstood. EUUUH WHAT (x2)!?!? I asked him to lower the charge, since it was a mistake from their part, and he offered to lower 5$ and offered a free tiramisu. Well, gee, that fixes everything!!! (sarcasm) BUT WAIT: THERE'S MORE! He then says: "so asides that, how is the food?" I glared at him and told him had he waited until we were done with our meal, I wouldn't be so disappointed. I asked him to please pack the rest of our food in a box because I wasn't hungry anymore. He kindly asked us to wait for the tiramisu. I told him I wasn't hungry anymore and that we hadn't ordered a tiramisu. He insists. In comes the waiter, with the tiramisu and tells us to eat it (?) (Dude, what the hell? what part of "we are not hungry anymore don't you get?!?!?!) I told him to pack it up as well because we wanted to leave asap. The manager insists once again, at which point I said: "you can't force me to eat a tiramisu I didn't order. Bill please?" The waiter brought our food, along with the bill. We paid. We left. What a surreal experience. We will never come back here. Not only did they overcharged us unfairly, but they almost forced us to eat a cake we didn't order in the first place. The least they could have done is recognise they made a mistake instead of coming up with bogus excuses. read more

My girlfriend and I ate hear last night, and had the best experience ever !!! First off, the atmosphere is extremely romantic. Both meals were amazing. The penne and the veal were sooo good. The pino-grecio wine was amazing. The service was outstanding. In addition , we were waiting for approx 20 minutes after the restaurant closed. Our server came out and asked us if we wanted a ride. As he was asking us, our cab finally arrived. Outstanding !!!! Can't wait to go back. read more

Very delicious food. We had the meat lasagna, penne arrabiata, margherita pizza and cheese tortellini. Our server Rhonda K was great but the host was a little unfriendly. Would definitely go back every time we are in Edmonton. read more

My husband made a reservation for 3 of us for a Friday night dinner. Since we brought our 4 year old, we knew what we were ordering by the time the server came to take our drink order. It must've thrown things off for her. Our drinks took quite a while to arrive. Our waters were never topped up. Something we've come to expect from establishments such as this one. We were never offered any bread. We only finally got some after we finished our appetizer and I had to ask another employee that brought bread to the couple beside us that Just Sat Down. After our appetizer, our server took my cutlery and small plate letting me know that she would bring me another set for my dinner. Just before our entree's arrived, my husband took our daughter to use the restroom. My entree sat in front of me for about 5 minutes before I could taste it since I was never brought a fresh set of cutlery. I even asked the young man that brought out the entree's to bring me a set, but, he obviously forgot me as well. I finally asked another server and only because I actually knew him. So, I sat alone at our table, literally watching my food get cold. I felt so awkward lol. Dinner was not as good as I remember it to be. Esp considering how much we spent on it. We were a little disappointed. We usually choose this restaurant when we celebrate things. This was a pre-Valentine family dinner. It's not likely that we will dine here again, unfortunately.
