    Cream of asparagus
    Kayla C.

We surprised my mother-in-law with dinner at Violino, because she's a huge Italian fan, but also a creature of habit (they only eat at the same places over and over, and for some reason East Side Marios)... So, since this would be a surprise, we would not give the chance for resistance - and boy am I glad we tried this place!!! She loved it! I should mention I am NOT a fan of pasta... and as a result I never think to try Italian places! This place showed me that Italian food can be bold in flavour, and more than just pasta!!! I had a beautiful chicken entree that was perfectly seasoned and cooked, with scalloped potatoes and vegetables... I started with cream of asparagus soup which was DELICIOUS. Finished it off with tiramisu, which was perfection. The sommelier paired a fabulous wine with our meal, based on our own preferences. They nailed it. Everyone at the table loved that wine. In case you'd like a recommendation: Gran Emotivo Rosso (red) The pasta-hater will be back (and might even see what they can do with PASTA!!!)

I get a big smile on my face when I think of the lovely, comfort food available at Violino. The bruschetta is a must start. So fresh and tasty, without being overwhelmed by garlic. The calamari is also a great starter dish. Very tender and not chewy. The accompanying sauce was delish. The special was a seafood ravioli. Nom nom! I've bee dreaming of good ravioli since I visited Italy 6 months ago. This is it! Gorgeous little shrimps were mouth watering. It was so hard for me to chew slowly and not slam it down like I wanted to. I wanted to savor it. The budget Malbec was good at $49. Our water glasses were filled regularly. There was absolutely no room for dessert but the choices were beautiful. I'll be back for the tiramusu. I did have an espresso though. The staff was so nice to us . I got a call shortly after I left. I had forgotten my glasses. Thank you guys for being so courteous. Be sure to make a reservation and leave your number. That is how they were able to contact me.

Haven't been to Violino Ristorante in years but my sister booked it as they have a spacious patio. It's tucked away behind Urban Diner and nearby Brasserie Bardot. We dropped in on a Saturday evening (with 6:30pm reservations for 8). There's plenty of outdoor seating with both an upstairs and main area. No view though. Service was mediocre. The menu consisted of pizzas, antipasto, insalata, pasta and entrees. - Bread - some bread with olive oil and balsamic dip to whet our appetites. - Nervatura ($39.00) - my sis's dish was the best of the ones I tried. The meat was tender but could have used more sauce. Risotto could have been more flavourful and creamier. - Fettucine tavolino ($34.00) - this is their signature dish. Probably the saddest iteration of a fettucini alfredo that I've had. Sauce was bland, lacked any cheese flavour and to top it off, not rich or creamy enough. Barely any chicken (which for some reason were cubed) and overcooked. I'd even go far as saying Olive Garden's is better and the last time I ate there was when I was a teenager. - Truffle pizza ($20.00) - one of the strangest presentations for a pizza I've seen. They have chili flakes, pickles, sweet pickled pepper, sweet red pepper and pickled red onions as "sides". Flavourwise, the pizza was generic. Couldn't taste any of the truffle. - Margherita ($16.00) - Dessert - they brought out a complimentary dessert for my sister's celebration, which was a nice touch. Some sort of apple cake with vanilla ice cream and berries. Eating at VR reminded me why we haven't ate here in years. Don't come here unless you've got money to burn.

Can't say enough about this gem of a restaurant. The food and service is exceptional! Can't wait to go back

Tirato Anatra Confict (duck) panini and Caesar salad ($17)

We had a business lunch and arrived at 11:30 to find the restaurant empty. They seated us downstairs but we wanted a more private space so they moved us upstairs where there was a long table that could seat everyone (they have a private room but it was reserved). The table was lovely and spacious and I liked the comfortable seats and we had some room to move the chairs so we weren't so close to our neighbour. There was a nearby closet and it was very convenient to hang our coats there. The lunch menu had lots of options. There were salads and you could add protein, pasta, paninis, and pasta. I ordered the duck panini with a Caesar salad. While we were waiting for the rest of our party to arrive, the server brought out sparkling water and warm bread with dipping oil. The bread was deliciously comforting being soft and warm and I didn't even mind eating the end of piece! I don't recall how long it took for our food to arrive since we were chatting but I think in a reasonable amount of time. We were offered fresh pepper. I started with my salad and I loved how the amount of dressing was perfect and the lettuce not drenched in dressing and ideal number of croutons. The sandwich was duck, onions, mushrooms, and melted provolone cheese on a sliced of bread. There was a lot of cheese and I'm not big on cheesey sandwiches so I didn't eat all of it. But the duck was delicious. My table mates' pastas dishes looking good too! Service was attentive and friendly. I can't wait for our next lunch here!

Tableside Pasta tossed in asiago cheese

We love this place! We have been going for years. Who can go wrong with fresh pasta tossed in a barrel of asiago cheese. MORE PLEASE. Celebrated a 40th for a family member and we had a great time. They give you room to socialize and bring the food in time and together. They do need to work on cleaning their wine glasses but that is something that can easily be improved.

Impeccable service, and a beautiful veranda to enjoy your meal. The food has left me with mixed feelings. I had the seafood special (Sea Bass $40) and the fish was sadly dry. My SO had the steak special ($49) and it was a generous portion and cooked perfect. I would rate the food a 3, based on my one dish and the very high prices, but the atmosphere on the veranda is a 5. The inside is very classy. I hope to be back soon to try the brick oven fired pizza, as the oven was out of order the day I visited.

An intimate restaurant in the Oliver neighborhood, perfect for date nights or special occasions. The restaurant looks like it was converted from a house. The server told me they have a private room on the second floor too. Our server was really friendly and seems to know the food really well which is great. They also have a pretty big selection of wine. For appetizer, we ordered the Lobster dip. I did not taste and could barely see any lobster bits in this dish. I probably would not order this again. The Chicken fettucine was interesting. It was finished in a wheel of asiago cheese (lit up with fire and all) at your table. You will enjoy this if you like very very rich and creamy pasta. The daily special was a seafood pasta with cream sauce. It was good but I wish they used larger shrimps though. Knowing that we were celebrating our anniversary, they surprised us with bread pudding on the house (complete with sparklers)! I enjoyed the evening and will be back :-)

I absolutely love this place! There's something about dining in an old house with a very traditional atmosphere. The food is amazing. I've eaten here a few times and I've never had a complaint. Great service, great wine, great food. I went here on a romantic date and another time in a girls night out. Definitely dressier than other places but is good for a special night out. Can't wait to go back!

A gorgeous room, a spectacular patio, excellent staff and an evolving menu. All that and more is in store where violins and classical music romance you through your meal. Violino has been around for a while now, but major change is in the air: With a new GM at the helm whom brings decades of experience from California to Cruise Ships to deluxe dinning destinations in Europe, I think this rock-steady eatery is about to finally be all that it can be. They are the only place in the city with a forno oven that resides on the patio! It is pretty cool to sit out in the sun, surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna and watch as they pull your pizza straight out of the oven and over to you. Tres chic! The wine list is stellar, the pasta fantastic, some really great apps (I highly suggest the prosciutto and melon as well as the bruschetta!) There were a few misses, my cucumber and tomato salad; not a winner. But hey, like I said, they are diligently working on the menu! For a leisurely lunch with the ladies, to a romantic evening with your amore, this is definitely on my shortlist of go-to places!

I started the meal with the Don Vito cocktail, a spirit forward sweet concoction of Cognac, Bourbon and Limoncello. Immediately felt like it set the perfect tone for dinner. The tasting menu started with four appetizers, the Arancini, Goat Ricotta Crostini, Insalata Siciliana and the Culatello. My favorite was the arancini as it was packed full of melty cheese with so much flavor. The culatello was a crowd favorite and the crostini was a great palate cleanser. For secondi we had the Truffle Gnudi and Paccheri. For people who like meaty flavors go with the paccheri, but I liked the light cheese and truffle of the gnudi. By the time the Pollo Al Mattone came around, I could only manage a mouthful of the succulent brick chicken and the fresh cabbage salad as I was so full and would need to be rolled out of the restaurant. We ended with the Chocolate Budino, which was dark, creamy and delicious. A great tasting menu at a great price, especially compared to Toronto prices!

I like that the bartender just works on drinks for servers and there aren't patrons directly ordering drinks from him to slow the service.

Server was nice but never refilled our table water even after we moved it a couple times to be within her view of the table (my friend swears he saw her see us move it to the edge of the table too). Rialto Float cocktail was nice if you like Pisco. Royal Jamaican Ginger beer was good too. Olive Calde - large portion for price. Olives were fine. Calamari - 10/10 delicious, dips were great too. Gnocchi with pancetta - 10/10, surprising filling and even though the Gnocchi were huge chunks they were well cooked. Waitress recommend Campanella Aragosta - 7/10. If you like spicy it's fine but otherwise the flavor is actually very bland. Pasta itself was unique and well cooked. Large portion. Beef Brisket Agnolotti - 7/10, 8 large ravioli filled with brisket. Sauce was good, ravioli were well cooked but brisket inside was pretty underwhelming. Friend who got this dish was ++ hungry still after and said he would order something else next time for the price. Funghi Cipolla - 8/10, it was as expected. Ricotta cheesecake - cheesecake itself was great with the ricotta taste but crust was soooo bad. So overly thick and dry and considering our waitress failed to give us water the entire meal it was impossible to eat (so dry). Date cake - Unfortunately they didn't have gelato as was advertised on the menu to go with the cake so whipped cream was substituted. Was told this only after we ordered and friend asked for the flavors of gelato. Cake had a few uncooked flour lumps. Flavor was fine but not as flavorful/spice-heavy as I hoped. Sprouts on top looked really messy but tasted fine. Overall not a seamless experience as I would have expected from an establishment of this caliber.

My tablemate had a pasta dish and the smaller portion, which was perfect for lunch. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert. The portion size was big, so a dessert for sharing after having a meal. It was delicious and I enjoyed it. I'll definitely be back to enjoy more great food!
