I hosted a 90th birthday party for my mother at the Sorrentino's downtown location with 17 people attending. Dana was very helpful in setting the date, selecting our private dining room and providing suggestions for the menu. Upon arrival the room was set up beautifully. Serge took care of the service for our group and his attention to our needs was excellent. Everybody at the event said their meals were outstanding. All in all, a fabulous evening was provided to us by the staff at Sorrentino's. I would recommend this location for any event. read more

We went here for the mushroom festival which is in October. It features mushroom dishes and they also have activities during the month as well. Both me and my daughter love mushrooms. We decided on splitting the mushroom croquettes -wild mushroom medley, potatoes, smoked cheese, mozzarella, and black garlic aïoli. These were rich and delicous with an amazing cheese pull. Really well done. We also each went with a mushroom pasta. My daughter went with the ricotta gnocchi with portobello mushroom, shrimp, fresh herbs, broccolini, and garlic. I went with the beef ravioli made with Barolo braised beef, wild mushroom medley, sage, truffle cream sauce, and parmigiano. Both pastas were rich and plentiful (leftovers for the next day). I did like my daughters pasta slightly more because it was fresh and not quite as heavy. But I would order both of these again. Since it was my birthday we got a free tiramisu. It was lovely and a great way to round up the meal. Our server was excellent and professional. It was beautiful inside. Really great atmosphere to enjoy a conversation. read more

We visited Sorrentino's on a Saturday for Garlic Fest. Even though we did not have reservations, the restaurant was able to accommodate us. We were quickly seated, and the service continued to be exceptional during our entire meal. We ordered a bottle of the Chloe Cabernet Sauvignon, garlic bread knots, gnocchi, and linguine. All dishes were hot, flavourful, and made fresh with quality ingredients. The whole dining experience was wonderful and I look forward to returning soon! read more

Had a lovely dinner here recently with friends visiting from BC. I had been to the west side location before but not to the one close to my home. Go figure! Our service was lovely. Our apps were just okay. We had a variety. We tried the Beef Carpaccio, it was good but a bit too salty here. And a few assagini to try different ones. All just okay. I had the Lamb Sirloin while my guests both had the Veal Cannelloni. I have to say, we all raved about our main courses. The wine was quite nice, I don't recall the bottle. I am not one for dessert as you can see from most reviews. I'm more of an after dinner drink kind of girl. However, a gf wanted to split one and we tried the lemon cake. Freaking delish! read more

Came on a Friday night with work colleagues and the restaurant was busy but not full. We waited a few minutes at the front door but no one came to greet us until we walked further into the restaurant. We were a group of 5 so they set up a table for us. Service was efficient and they came by a few times to ask whether we wanted drinks, although several servers came by and asked the same thing. They give a warm bun to dip with oil and vinegar. The Cioppino was excellent with lots of seafood and the seafood was cooked perfectly (even the fish). The bison ribs were the special of the day and was ok but with a price tag of $60, it was not worth it. read more

We got a New Years Eve curbside dinner from Sorrentino. We ordered for ourselves and a couple of extra to deliver to family and friends. We were able to do that because the 4 course dinner was affordable. While we wish we could dine in, curbside was a really good alternative. We had a tomato burrata salad, arancini, lasagna, braised short rib, salmon, side veggies, some potatoes, and tiramisu that made me say Mmmmm with every bite. Pickup was super smooth. Haven't been to this location for quite a while. Went here for a retirement lunch. We were put in a private room which was great! There was about 20 of us in the room They have a mushroom event on right now so I decided to have the mushroom soup to start and it was very good. Highly recommend! For my entree I had the beef tenderloin. It was pretty good (fairly average dish); the steak was seasoned well but They slightly overlooked my steak. Service was great!!! read more

I've visited other locations previously but had the pleasure of visiting the downtown location recently for the first time. I'd made a reservation but it clearly wasn't needed on a Sunday evening. There was a large group in a private room but aside from that, there was only one other table seated in the main dining room. I was excited to see how many options they have for vegetarians. I often find Italian restaurants to be hit or miss. I hate having to ask for pasta dishes "without the meat" but still paying prices that include the meat. I had the gnocchi alla sorrentino which was a plate of housemade gnocchi topped with roasted cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and parmigiano-reggiano. Oh my gosh the gnocchi! It melts in your mouth. $27 is a lot to spend on pasta but I assure you: it is worth it. My partner had the pumpkin ravioli and it was just as good. The real highlight for me might have been our appetizer though; we shared the buffalo mozzarella, beetroot and pear salad. The beets were deliciously smokey and the mozzarella? My mouth is still watering thinking about it. Service was attentive throughout the evening until our server disappeared when we were done eating. We sat for quite awhile before he came by to refill our water and we were able to request the bill. Sorrentino's is on the pricier side but it's the perfect location for a special occasion. Went here with the parents and grandparents to celebrate Mother's Day. Place was surprisingly not too busy but still had a nice, relaxing atmosphere. Place is a bit more on the pricey side (appetizers $10-15, pasta $18-26 and entrees $38-45) but service and attention to detail was excellent. We had a superb waitress for the evening who even was able to win over my dad's approval (a rare thing indeed). The servers are super friendly and know what they are doing. Started the evening with complementary drinks for the mom's (some sort of sparkling wine with a liqueur in it). A nice unexpected touch. For dinner, we had three orders of linguine frutti di mare ($26) which comes in a spicy marina sauce with lots of different seafood. Had a taste and pasta was cooked to a nice texture. Could use a vegetable in here as they only give you mussels, shrimp, scallops and calamari. I ordered the buffalo cannelloni ($24) which was stuffed with the buffalo meat inside, put in the oven to melt the mozzarella over top and topped with a creamy mushroom sauce. Very tasty and filling. Lastly, mom ordered the Mother's Day Special (3 course meal for $55). For appetizer, we had cherry tomatoes with a mixture of roasted garlic, parsley and basil. Shared it with everyone and was a great dish to start the meal. For the main, we picked the beef filet and it also came with mashed potatoes and a vegetable ragout. Then for dessert, we all split the strawberry rhubarb crumble with a mint honey decoration on top and bit of whipped cream (it was super fancy/we were impressed with the presentation). Dessert was really tasty and perfect way to end a great meal. Also forgot to mention that during the meal, we all received a nice small bun that came straight from the oven - piping hot and dipped it into the oil, chili flacks and pink peppercorns sauce. The sauce had a nice kick to it (nothing crazy but just a tad bit of heat to it) which went great with the bun. We even got seconds. Definitely would recommend if your looking for a good restaurant in the downtown area. Classy place with great service and nice atmosphere. Came here for a business lunch event and we were booked in the room near the front of the restaurant. It was a little cozy but not too cramped. Not ideal for the servers but they were fantastic. We had our choice from a set menu of appetizer and entrée. I choose the salad and the Panini and soup. I asked the server if the soup had cream and she came and told me it did, so they could give me extra salad if I wanted which I agreed. The first salad was huge but delicious. The salad dressing was light and didn't overpower the greens. The chicken Panini was a good choice although the salmon and the pasta with sausage looked good too. It was served with another huge portion of salad which I couldn't finish. A great meal with bread and dip and excellent service. Everything was great and I would recommend this restaurant for a business meeting/event for 20 or 30. read more

I was surprised by the degree of service I received here. The wait staff were really attentive when we visited during Downtown Dining Week for lunch. What I didn't like was the fact that staff seemed a little odd in that they pulled out the chair for my female friend but not for me, another female restaurant patron. I mean, we're not a couple or anything, but making such assumptions is odd at the best of times. If one isn't able to pull out both chairs for the restaurant patrons, why pull the chairs out for one but not another? As I said, service was otherwise pretty awesome. It was nice that they asked if we wanted the bread with the meal, especially as so many people have gluten intolerances these days (we ate and enjoyed the bread and the olive oil dip!). Then we shared both of the entrees they had for Downtown Dining week: chicken and risotto before enjoying dessert. The food was outstanding. Before, I had always just thought of Sorrentino's as a place for pasta and now, well I was wowed by their non-pasta dishes! Service was prompt and we were able to eat and leave in approximately the hour we had for lunch on a workday. The atmosphere was great: the room was really well appointed. I don't often splurge on such a fancy workday lunch, but Downtown Dining Week provided the perfect excuse. Perhaps sometime I'll visit again for dinner? read more

On October 19th, 2012 after roughly 10 years of having gone to the Sorrentino's and been completely disgusted....we ventured out and went to the downtown Edmonton restaurant. Happily, we came out of it feeling that there is hope afterall for this well known, family started business that we have heard SO many folks talk about and before this past Friday could only comment as to how BAD it was in Jasper. We ordered the "piccolo" size of "assaggini" with gorgonzola, fontina and the arancini (made with mushrooms), as well we ordered the "home made ricotta" because I wanted to compare it to Corso 32's which I was very disappointed with on account of the exorbitant amount of olive oil they put in it. Happily, here they didn't do that and it had a consistency closer to what I know in Italy :-) They served it with a citrus based marmalade (ON the SIDE). It was a nice start, to say the least. My companion was going to order a pasta dish, but decided not to go "all out" since we haven't had the best of luck as of yet...so, baby steps.... He ordered the Salmon which was served with asparagus, cherry tomatoes and sauteed gnocchi "al peperoncino"....I tasted the gnocchi in particular as I remember the ones I had at Cibo a while back (soggy and very oily). These were crispy actually and NOT chewy :-) He did though comment that his salmon was a bit overcooked, but in all, a nice meal that he enjoyed. I had the Veal Osso Buco with Risotto alla Milanese. The risotto was very good and creamy (a perfect something for the chilly night). The Osso Buco was a very generous portion (I couldn't finish it, though our waitress congratulated me on having finished as much as I did :-) ) and in all, again, a nice meal that I enjoyed. For dessert, we shared the selection of chocolate desserts (a white chocolate mousse, chocolate creme brûlée, a dark chocolate mousse and chocolate cake). Nice and generous enough for two and also quite good. In all, I would rather give this restaurant a 3.5 (since we will return and at that point we will be having the pasta...then we'll see how that goes). For now, THIS location of the Sorrentino family of restaurants is one I will happily recommend :-) read more

Sorrentino's and the Sorrentino's group are a little bit of a hit/miss proposition in Edmonton. There are five Sorrentino's restaurants in the Edmonton area and each has it's own honest to goodness chef and menu. The whole operation is overseen by an Executive Chef. Each restaurant has it's own feel and service culture. The big mystery is why there is such a discrepancy in quality between these restaurants. I find that the only ones I enjoy the food at is this location, downtown, and the Westend restaurant. Downtown is definitely geared to the business lunch and the theatre crowd. Service is a little more formal, though friendly and efficient. I've found the pasta dishes to be well planned and executed, but really it's the non-pasta dishes that are really a stand out here. The menu changes with the seasons, so there really isn't a point to make specific recommendations. I have had some really great osso buco, pork medallions, veal and fish here. From some tables, you can see the service area in the kitchen. It's good to see that the chef inspects each dish before it's served. I've even seen some plates rejected to be redone before being allowed into the dining room. All and all, I wholeheartedly recommend this location. I wish I could say the same about all Sorrentino's restaurants, but I can't. read more

I'm a little surprised that the reviews are not the best here. Everything about this place is awesome! The atmosphere is a little fancier than other Italian restaurants. But the service is amazing, their wine is amazing and most of all the food is delicious. I ordered the arancini balls to start; these were soft and tender and were full of flavor. My main was the bison cannelloni. I quite enjoyed this although I would have preferred a little more kick in this one. To finish I had the panna cotta. I literally wish I had more room because this was such a perfect dessert. It was like eating vanilla clouds! Overall my experience was great. The prices are a little more than an average Italian place but I've always had a great experience every time I've come here. read more

Sorrentino's is way nicer then I thought it would be. It is really fancy inside and very classy. The service is really good (they check your coats at the front). The coat check is something I have never seen before in a restaurant. The food is delicious. I would recommend the Spaghetti all'Amatriciana, with spicy tomato sauce, pancetta and pecorino cheese. It was amazing and the portions here are very generous. I went into Sorrentinos without any expectations because I had never really heard much about it. It really surprised me though. I'll start with the positive. The restaurant was really beautiful and the service was excellent. Now the negative. I love negronis and typically order one everywhere I go. So far this was the worst "negroni" in Edmonton. It tasted like straight vermouth and if I wasn't such a raging alcoholic I would have sent it back! My main dish was the Spaghetti carbonara. At almost $30 a plate you would think Sorrentio's would be able to afford something a little fancier than SLICED LUNCHEON MEAT. I actually wondered if Ashton Kutcher was gonna jump out of the Oscar Meyer wiener and inform me that I had been punked. Sliced luncheon meat, I still can't believe it. The host intitially also sat me at the wrong table, which ended up being a bachelor party! To the hosts credit I didn't know my friends last name. I have very few meaningful relationships. read more

Really disappointing. After having not seen my mother in several years, We both had looked forward to my trip to visit her and one of our plans was to go to Sorrentino's for dinner. This was also the opportunity for her to meet my Significant other. My s.o. made it there a few minutes before us thinking that we were all ready there. He asked the host staff if he could take a peak around the corner to see if we were. He said that they wouldn't let him, and made him feel very uncomfortable asking about us being there, to the point where he felt unwelcome and waited outside the building for us instead. When we arrived, we all three of us asked to be seated at a table, with the manager looking us head to toe as if we certainly should not be eating at this establishment, proceeded to seat us any ways. Our waiter was professional, he took our orders and we waited, and waited, and waited.. As other people around us began filling up tables being seated and then having their meals brought to them before us, even though we had been waiting a half an hour or so longer than all of them, it became clear that on some level something wasn't quite right. The manager came to our table asking us how we were enjoying ourselves... uhh are you freakin joking dude? We hadn't been served anything, and it had all ready been nearly an hour. I let him know we had been patiently waiting for our food. He very flatly said it would be on it's way. When the food finally did arrive it was good, that being said our entire experience there took an insane amount of time it seemed. The manager was not only inconsiderate but just kind of an ass hole to put it bluntly. Everyone at our table felt like we were genuinely unwelcome there, as though we were bringing the property value down or something. It really soured our experience. In reality though, your patrons may not look fancy, but they deal with some very well known people in the world. People who with all of their money will never be recommended to eat at your establishment ever. Moral of the story; don't be an ass hole to your customers. read more

Lunch out is always a treat, and today it was made extra special by the company and the food. To Start we had their Garlic Festival bites, they aren't kidding when they say they are bites. To be fair they are "just tasters" and we were pre warned by the Server that they were small. They came to us served on a bread board, they were a great taste of the Calamari and Garlic Shrimp. Small servings left us wanting more for sure, especially with the 3$ price tag! My companions and I went on to order 2 Tagliatelle, and one Capellini Aglio Olio Con Gamberi. 2 out of 3 pasta dishes were gone as my companions cleaned their plates, remarking on how delicious their pastas were. I,on the other hand, seemed to catch one or two small chicken bones/gristle which had me holding off on finishing off my plate. All three of us requested salt and pepper to be added to our dishes, so maybe the sauces could have been a bit less bland. For Dessert, we shared the Chocolate Fetish: spicy chocolate brûlée, frozen chocolate soufflé,chocolate torte, chocolate mousse. All of which topped off the lunch with great style! With two out of three favouring the Chocolate torte, which was fresh and melted in your mouth. Enough bites of each dessert to handle our three spoons. I would not recommend this place for a common lunch, the prices are way to expensive for a daily lunch unless you are a Lawyer, Doctor or just won the Lottery. This was my first lunch at the Sorrentino's downtown location. The room(s) here are impressive. Simultaneously cozy, modern and high-end looking. The front-of-house staff and super professional, and very attentive. I had the Chicken Parmigiana, something I like to try at different Italian restaurants to see what sorts of twists they'll put on it. It was OK. Didn't knock my socks off, and didn't leave me wanting. I think the portion size is entirely too large, but that means a good take-away meal for later on. The restaurant was filled to the brim mostly with business professionals. I saw a lot of smiling faces, and wait staff run off their feet -- but they were doing great. Sorrentino's is good. It won't blow you away, but if you go here you'll get a good italian meal. Mangiamo! read more

Went there with my staff during teachers' convention. They were a bit strict with the rules (only one bill for the whole group and must pay cash) but the food arrived fast and was really good. This is the second time for me here in Sorrentino's downtown and it is a nice setup and the food they serve is good. I mention the setup, since the place feels clean and has warm staff. The food as such was not over the top, but definitely not disappointing. My colleagues liked their food as well. I still rate Pazzo Pazzo slightly over this place. We love Sorrentino's and made an early reservation (5:30) as we were heading to the Winspear and wanted to be there by 7pm. When the reservation was made, this was mentioned. When we arrived, we informed our server of the same and he thanked us for letting him know. Our drinks came fairly quickly and appetizers followed. And then nothing. We waited. And waited. I kept trying to get the server's attention but he would not make eye contact and I was starting to feel ignored. Finally at 6:30, he came over and told us that our main course would be coming in 10 minutes. In other words, they were just going to fire the meal now. He knew we were very upset and the manager came by and told us that our order had been "lost " and he would comp our wine. The meal did finally arrive around 6:45. We had to shovel it down. The bill arrived and the wine was still on it and I had to physically seek out the server to ask him to remove it. He apologized but obviously had not checked the bill before giving it to us, which resulted in a further delay. Not a great experience and not the Sorrentino's we will ever go back to. There are too many other options in the downtown area. read more

I arrived as a walk-in with my family after attending The Street Performer's Festival and calling numerous places with hour long or more wait times in the downtown core. Although we were underdressed we were seated in the main dining room with no wait time at all. Our server was polite, friendly and very efficient. The pace of our Caesar salad to the main entree was perfect. The homemade Sorrentino's Ceasar Salad comes with a perfectly poached egg on top that creates a creamy emulsion when mixed with the lettuce and dressing. It's one of my all-time favourite Ceasar salads! We all ordered different entrees and agreed that they were excellent. My personal recommendation and what I always order is the Canneloni. I noticed that they changed the meat from veal to bison but that there is no change in texture and the taste of the red and white sauces is as always amazing! My family ordered the Spaghetti Carbonera (again with poached egg on top and the Penne Arrabiate. Most of the pastas come in your choice of ful, or half orders. Dessert wasn't on our minds after such a rich meal but we didn't need anything sweet after having our tastebuds completely satisfied. Sorrentino's still is one of the top Italian restaurants in Edmonton in my humble opinion. read more
