However, I was a little disappointed that this was the only time we got to see him as we couldn't interact with him regarding some of his dishes. Decor is nice, dark and upscale. Standouts included: Le Homard - Nova Scotia Lobster, Coffee Papagayo, Plantain, Sweet-Pepper: Excellent dish that chef has won an award for. Fantastic flavours top to bottom. I think having caviar at the top would have made it even better though. Le Pithivier - Beef Wellington "À la Française", Foie Gras, Spinach, Mushrooms, Beef Jus : I added this for $80 and it was delightful. As an add on i I suggest sharing this as it is substantial. However the taste is excellent. Foie gras instead of pate is a very nice touch. Le Campignon consists of a Mueller (finely chopped mushroom mixture) was also excellent.

The restaurant is located right in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in the Financial District, which also made it wheelchair accessable. It wasn't very busy when we arrived, so we were seated right away. The restaurant has a modern French atmosphere with comfy seating, and our server was extremely accommodating, attentive, and friendly. We opted for the lunch prix fixe menu, which offers any two courses for $35. Since we couldn't decide between an appetizer or dessert to go with our main, we were able to add the third course for just $10 more. I started with the mushroom soup, which was super delicious and gluten-free. For my main, I ordered the crispy salmon, which I found to be just okay. The salmon had a bit of a fishy smell when it arrived at the table, which was slightly off-putting, and it was also a tiny bit dry. That said, the dish was otherwise good. For dessert, I had the chocolate mousse, which wasn't overly rich and was a nice way to finish the meal.

They actually have a good selection of champagnes, and our server was knowledgeable. We had a lovely salad, and tried their two tartare options. I can't say that the either of the tatare were good - the quality was ok I suppose, but a lot of people working in kitchens seem to have forgotten what a tartar should taste or feel like.... The frites were fine, and the server surprised us with a welcome to Toronto dessert (we had just moved back). Overall, I would come back for a bottle of champagne and try different items from their menu.

So it goes without saying that my expectations were extremely high for the place. We arrived just before our reservation time and were quickly shown to a comfy table near the entrance. It was a good spot for taking in the admittedly impressive ambiance. Obviously we both had to order the Birdbath Martini ("Quill Gin, House Vermouth Blend, House Orange Bitters, Lemon Oil, Olives and Pickled Onions"). And yeah, it's incredible. The tableside preparation was certainly an impressive sight, and the taste of the drink was superb. Definitely one of the best martinis in the city. For my main, I went with the Bay Street ("shaved prime rib, tobacco onion, horseradish aioli, grilled baguette, frites") and after an unusually long wait, the plate arrived to the table. I can't say I was super impressed. The meat is tender and flavorful, yes, but the bread is so plentiful and so crusty that it pretty much negated the sandwich's positive attributes. I ultimately wound up leaving most of the bread and eating the scant prime rib. The fries were quite tasty, at least. Far more problematic was the service. Our waiter was absent for much of our meal. Our water glasses were empty for most of our time in the restaurant, and he never showed up to ask us if we wanted another drink, which we certainly did. We each probably would've ordered a couple more cocktails had the guy not vanished. So yeah, the martini was indeed excellent. Everything else? Not so much.

This is a wine bar - the house lager was bad (maybe my own bad decision) and the red I got was fine ... nothing to write home about. However place fell apart with the food - the shrimp came with 5 medium sized shrimp with the tails, legs and shells on and were under seasoned. The artichokes were mediocre (loved the sauce they came with). Worst of all was the "Ontario peaches" with the burrata were totally canned peaches - could've even been dole brand! This place has amazing potential with the location and vibe - but the food just was not it. Small portions and the price didn't match what was served. The service was friendly but nothing too crazy. It was ultra-tender, flaky, paired with its unbelievable sauce made up of squash, tomato and basil. The poached scallops also deserves a shoutout and must order as well. Amazing service with the waitress taking care of us so well, filling up water before it was requested , great explanations of their dishes etc. Overall, had an amazing time at Canoe. They pride in using fresh and local ingredients served creatively, and always with new ideas and dishes with the tasting menu changing constantly to match what's in season. Some of the dishes really emphasized the freshness and the quality of the ingredients, showcased in our starting dish of asparagus, egg confit, cure pork and leeks. The salt was minimal, and it tasted so clean, fresh, and well put together. Paneer with makhni was also included playing heavily on the delicious Indian flavors that were so full of umami taste, I could not believe this dish did not have meat. The chicken was one of my favorites with a smoked butter sauce. I could not believe white meat could be this tender and moist and absorb flavor so well. The fish was also great, as was the dessert, a rhubarb tiramisu to give a tangy contrast to the mascarpone cream. This was tasting menu #248, and the menu will change about every 2 weeks it seems like, which is amazing. Finally, I loved that explicitly state that tips are not accepted despite the amazing service and elevated food. I definitely would want to come back again, knowing there's a lot more creative ideas to try in different dishes while having a very solid cooking foundation.

Richmond Station is well liked because of their hospitality, tip included structure, and fresh ingredients. I opted for the beef tartare as my app and the station burger. These were both amazing! The beef tartare came with a little bit of shaved veggies and a side of russet potatoes. The station burger was the best burger of my life. I had originally wanted to order the duck, but knew at my first bite exactly why Richmond Station is so popular. The burger came medium rare and was pasture raised beef with aged cheddar and chutney. The fries were a tiny bit burnt but still good, and the aioli it came with was great. Yum! Loved my meal here and would definitely come back for the tasting menu next time!

The setting alone is spectacular, but the food and service more than live up to it. The service was impeccable: reserved, attentive and incredibly polished without ever feeling overbearing. We chose the tasting menu with the premium wine pairing and added the truffle supplement, which I would absolutely do again. Even the bread course was memorable. The truffle skull butter was such a fun presentation, and the light, airy focaccia was genuinely one of the things I kept thinking about afterward. The canapés were delicate and delicious, with each one somehow evoking a familiar or nostalgic dish despite being presented in a completely elevated way. The amberjack was fresh, delicate and luxurious. The duck breast reminded me of a cozy fall dinner, almost Thanksgiving-like without actually tasting like Thanksgiving. The pasta, generously covered in freshly shaved truffles, was rich and indulgent, and the tenderloin was another standout. What I loved most about the meal was actually its simplicity. Nothing felt complicated just for the sake of being complicated. So many of the dishes reminded me of meals or flavors I already knew: Thanksgiving dinner, a Sunday roast, something warm and familiar, but reimagined with beautiful ingredients and incredible technique. There was a nostalgia running through the entire tasting menu that made it feel special without feeling pretentious. Dessert was elegant and delicious, and while the petit fours were fun, they were probably the least memorable part of an otherwise exceptional meal. Between the food, wine, service and view, Don Alfonso delivered exactly what I want from a tasting-menu experience: elevated and luxurious, but still warm, recognizable and genuinely enjoyable. One of the best meals I've had in Toronto.

The tuna one had like a tomatoe/ strawberry relish mix which made it incredibly refreshing with a little kick. It was a very light dish. The steak version was really well seasoned and so good with the toasted bread - still light but a bit more on the savoury side. I had the angolotti pasta with snap peas and peas. It was a bit heavy and creamy with the ricotta filling, but delicious. Really enjoyed the green sauce. My partner had the truffle burger which was quite literally a burger on a plate - no sides. It was really heavy with the cheese and oils. I couldn't really enjoy it but he seemed to like it. Meat was definitely juicy! We ordered a side of truffle fries which I think lacked truffle flavour, but were delicious anyway. It came with a light aoli and they were similar to frites. Soo good! 100% would recommend it. For dessert, we had the strawberry pavlova and lemon meringue pie. The pavlova was too sweet and the pie was quite sour. So funnily enough, mixing the two was perfect. Service was very friendly and I feel like I'd love popping by for a quite bite of appetizers if I were ever in the area again. This definitely makes me want to try the larger Aloette location now!

One thing that seemed off to us was the reservation policy. When booking through OpenTable, a credit card is required, and there is a $25 per person charge for no-shows, cancellations within 48 hours, or even guest count reductions made within that time frame, which felt a bit strict for a casual dining restaurant. The restaurant officially closes at 9 p.m., but they accept reservations until around 8:15 p.m., continue taking orders after that, and allow guests to stay and finish their food and drinks at a relaxed pace. The menu is simple and approachable, with appetizers, shareables, mains, cocktails, and a selection of red, white, and sparkling wines. The food was good, the service was friendly, and everything was enjoyable, but nothing felt particularly extraordinary. One thing worth mentioning is that the restaurant's popular cheese-topped bread, which was previously complimentary at the original Aloette location, is now offered as a menu item at the Bay location for an additional charge.
