In a group chat with my wife and me (which I'm happy to share), Mark pivoted from answering our questions about the quote to bragging about being a "rich guy," lecturing us on wealth, and suggesting we take out a loan to fund more landscaping work with him. That is not a quote I'm paraphrasing for effect -- that is what the president of this company put in writing to a young couple who asked him to mow their lawn. The breaking point: Mark insisted it was mandatory that we let him rip out every bush along the back of our house. When my wife politely asked whether she could try to save them herself this spring and have that line removed from the quote, his response was an attitude shift followed by "I quit" -- at 10 p.m., the night before our $3,000 spring clean-up was scheduled to begin.
