About 15 years ago I frequented Sorella's often because it was only a few blocks from my house, but I hadn't been back since moving away. That's a shame because I remember them fondly. Early Saturday afternoon i found myself in Liberty and needing a light bite to hold me over for dinner, and realized that they were still around. It truly is amazing that this joint has lasted so long it that location - a one way side street a block from the Historic Liberty Square is certainly not a high traffic or high visibility area. I'm sure the cheap rent has to be a blessing; I only assume that the rent is cheap because the building in ancient, out of the way, decades overdue for a makeover and quite small. I ordered a 1/2 muffaletta sandwich for $5.75 it came with a bag of chips and a pickle spear. Grilled to perfection with plenty of Boars Head meats and olive spread - it was a wonderful panini. I certainly will be returning sooner than 15 years for a larger serving. read more

We popped in for lunch and had an Italian sub and a Reuben. I liked the Reuben was better - maybe because it was served hot? Or because it was a bigger portion? The service was nothing noteworthy- just a gal making the sandwiches one at a time. I was glad we were first in line during the time we were there. With only one person working, it took awhile for some people to get their food. The set up is just a small deli counter and a few bistro tables. If I went back, I'd likely get it to go and eat outside nearby. read more

What an overall standup sandwich tucked away in "downtown" Liberty Missouri. Sorella's makes a mean meat masterpeice there is no denying that this deli is a top contender for a Top 10 Sandwich in (a lil further out than) KC. Last time I was visiting the suburb I came across this whole in the wall deli sort of next to a whole in the wall bar aptly called, The Corner Bar, the deli was no other than Sorella's. It was a kind of late for lunch and they were about to close up shop but I managed to slip through the doo before the sliver slicers were put to rest. The Katie's special of the day seemed perfect for my growling stomach promising to be piled with turkey breast, leafy spinach and havarti cheese, creamy mayo- I was sold. When the half of sandwich was crafted and presented to me minutes after I ordered her I was in awe of her beautiful rye bread, it was a swirly sight of glossy chestnut brown and soft sensual white bread. I was so ready to put this sandwich in my mouth! Surprisingly the bread held itself together while still being squishy and fresh. It provided the perfect vehicle to get the tender turkey, crisp veggies and that perfect mellow white slice of cheese from sandwich wrapping paper to mouth to stomach. Whenever I am in Liberty Missouri again I am so stepping into Sorella's for a stellar sandwich honestly the only thing that could make this sammy more of a whammy is if it was closer to the city center! read more

The pasta sauce was the darkest colored spaghetti sauce I'd ever seen and tasted unlike any sauce I'd ever had but in a bad way. The portion was also small compared to the price. The place also sold sandwiches which looked a lot better than the spaghetti so I'd recommend trying the sandwiches should you go there. read more

I wanted to try something new and since I live so close to Liberty, I thought I should at least try out the restaurants there. I was looking on Yelp and this was one of the top results for restaurants. There was a small parking lot in the back and also street parking. I came around 1pm and there was nobody there. The guy working there was nice and recommended a few items on the menu. The popular sandwiches according to him were the Reuben, Italian Meat, and Turkey sandwiches. I was eyeing the Meatball Sub, but he told me about the Muffaletta sandwich. He gave me a sample of the Sorella's Green Olive spread which was good to me. He also told me that the meatballs in the Meatball Sub were made in-house and said they tasted good. I ordered the Muffaletta ($7.25 for a whole sandwich) and a soda with a bag of chip for $8.89 total. The had different kinds of bread on display so you could choose which one if you'd like. They made the sandwich which took a few minutes. The girl who worked here was also nice when she handed me the sandwich. The Mufaletta sandwich tasted pretty good to me and Sorella's Green Olive spread complemented the rest of the meat in the sandwich. I'll have to try the other 9 sandwiches on the menu because thy all sounded good to me. read more

I am not sure what "not kid friendly" in another person's review means but this little deli off the square in Liberty, MO is exactly what I expected. People who frequent this establishment are in a hurry for a good sandwich or lunch quick. That is what I experienced with my to-go pastrami sandwiches. There were 2 ladies pretty much holding down the fort and I was impressed. If this was a mother-daughter team as formerly mentioned, even more so. And I had a wonderful group conversation with some of local folks either enjoying lunch or waiting for food...so, may the force be with them. I will finish with a quote by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher: "There is a special place in hell reserved for women who don't support other women." Lighten up on small-town, women owned, deli's trying to make a go of it. They, as all of us, are doing the best they can. read more

Tried this place for the first time recently. Ordered half sandwich, salad and pasta e fagiole soup. Interior of the place needs serious updating/remodeling. They have patio furniture for tables and chairs. Was only one person working that I saw. Emphasis on "deli" in this place's name, as it really looks like just a meat counter at the grocery store where they slice up meats for you. The food didn't make up for the sad-looking interior either. Very fatty cuts of meat used (it looked like raw bacon on my sandwich instead of salami and beef). Soup wasn't even vaguely flavorful with macaroni noodles used. Soup was mostly noodles and tomatoes. Hard to find other beans and veggies in it. Had almost no seasoning, it seemed. Sandwich didn't have choice of a spread either like butter or mayo. Salad was at least fresh, even if a tad skimpy on portions. Sorry, but if you want a deli-type sandwich, go to the grocery store or a chain. This place won't impress you. read more

Food was mediocre, service was slow. Run by a mother/daughter team. Mother doesn't like kids, I believe. The main concern is that the place was not family friendly (only one highchair) and everything was filthy, I mean FILTHY! The lone high chair had some plastered, caked on, dried up food to the point it was unusable. All of the salt and pepper shakers I checked (four sets - 8 shakers) in a futile al effort to find a clean one to use, had some manner of caked on grime and they clearly had not been cleaned in some time - if ever. The tables all had crumbs and/or residue on them, and it was not a busy time. We used napkins and wet wipes to clean a table for ourselves. We asked for a broom to sweep up some chips our kids spilled, and we're given a dirty look by "the mom." At least we were trying to clean up after our own kids, since they were, like toddlers do, making a mess, and we had no where to seat them. I felt as though I should apologize to "the mom" for daring to take my children out in public to support local business and dine in with them. She was clearly inconvenienced and annoyed by our kids. I was in the mood for a New York deli and while this didn't exactly work, it was still good. They have some interesting spreads, you can get a black olive spread or green olive. A nice break from the norm, good homemade bread with marble rye, wheat or a hoggie. The meat they use is Boars Head and hight quality. The ingreadients seem to be farm fresh....really good tomatoes but it is end of July as I write this review. It is small and there is not much help so make sure you are not on a time crunch. Sorella's is a great little gem just off of the Historic Liberty Square. I just wish it was open for dinner also...it's so yummy! Great sandwiches..and the parmesan mayo is to die for. We hadn't been in a while so had a call in, carry out order during the Covid shut down. Service was excellent, food was just as great as we remembered. Sandwiches are huge and so good. Oh how I love this place! They carry Boar's Head meats and cheeses, which some say are the Cadillac of deli meats. Fresh bread from Roma Bakery and lots of house made goodies. Here are a few of my favorites: Katie Special- turkey, havarti, roasted red peppers, cheesy mayo, balsamic vinaigrette, onions, lettuce, and tomato on marble rye bread. Chocolate Chip Brownie with Amaretto Buttercream Frosting- need I say more?? Try it- you won't be disappointed. Spaghetti- homemade sauce and homemade meatballs I worked here before and after the sisters (sorellas) took over. They are great people. This is a great place with lots of character. Haven't actually visited this location, but I just ate a boxed lunch from there via a function at work and it was SURPRISINGLY good for a boxed lunch. Marble Rye Turkey sandwich and delicious brownie has me wishing for more lunch meetings :) read more

Nearly self-service: order at counter, pickup and sit down. $10 average per person for sandwich, small chips and drink. We were still hungry after the meal. As far as delis go, very average meat selection--mostly Boar's Head brand. Pastrami dry as a bone, roast beef not much better; bread however is very good. We tried this place today, based on the positive reviews. There were three cupcake stands, but only two cupcakes on one of them. For a Monday lunch time frame, that seemed sparse. We ordered a Reuben to go. There were only two people working and both of them looked tired. A male employee walked out of the back with our sandwich. He put it down on the counter and then wiped his runny nose with the back of his hand. We watched him come and go - never washing his hands. Everything on the menu is easy to understand and well laid out so you never have to second guess ordering anything called a "double whammy extra pub slam" like at other places. The staff is fantastic and friendly. There's an awesome atmosphere in the old building. Being Italian & from NY, I've been on a quest for a local sandwich shop reminiscent of one back east. New to the Liberty Missouri area, I am very happy I googled Boars Head quality meat, a brand from NJ that I grew up with. Low and behold, I found one of the only places that carry it & within walking distance from my house. Sorella's Deli next to the Corner bar, one block from the square. I went for lunch there today for the first time. They looked pretty empty at 1 PM & I imagine it's just a sign of this terrible economy, or maybe lack of advertising because I found no reason NOT to love the "Italian Meat" Sandwich that I ordered. I got that, with a bag of chips and a Coke for around $8.00. It put the typical Subway sandwich to shame! Sure, it wasn't a foot long, but it was quality meat (not compressed cow lips or turkey parts) with fresh lettuce, tomato and even basil to my surprise, with quality Balsamic vinegar splashed on the bread. It was delicious and I will become a customer. The place isn't decorated and could use some nice relaxing music for atmosphere, but the sandwich was for once, a REAL cold cut sandwich. read more

Great local deli! Everything I have tried there has been wonderful. The green olive spread is the best I have had in KC and the homemade ranch I had on my salad was so creamy and flavorful! The staff is very friendly and will bend over backward to help you in anyway. The key lime cupcakes look divine but I am always too full to try one. Inside was very clean, though since it is an historical building it gives a feel of not up to par on food standards. I do not like sauerkraut, but thought it was delicious. We ordered the Muffaletta and another non-memorable sandwich and basically wrote it off. However, was in the neighborhood recently and decided to try again. (I like the idea of this place!) This time, ordered spaghetti and meatballs and a Reuben sandwich. Totally different experience - both items were delicious and well-made. I love Sorella's muffaletta sandwiches, it has an olive spread which is very distinct to me. Their Reuben sandwich is also very good. If you want quality sandwich with real good meat, give them a try and you won't be disappointed. They also carry a large selection of premium Boar' head deli meat.
