Came here by the recommendation of several people. We came at lunch time around noon and by the time we got there, they had run out of the special. We all ordered food and then sat to wait for the food to be brought out. The sandwiches took a bit to come out and I personally was disappointed. The sandwich was loaded with greens and very little meat. The bread used tasted fairly stale. Chip selection was decent and had free refills on soda. Although the cafe is open, only a select few items are available to order. Once your order it ready, you get it in a white to-go paper bag. It looks like a few tables are open but there are signs on the table that asks patrons not to sit there. Other tables had the chairs stacked on top of then. I had the Yardbird panini which came with a choice of chips; I chose the original lays. It was a big sandwich and I like that the wrapped it two separate pieces, especially since I was only able to eat one half. I do feel like the panini could have been grilled a bit longer since the bread was not brown all the way through and it was a little soggy. Located on Fort Leavenworth in what use to be the old USDB is this great little lunch place. With quirky names like the jail bird, turnkey, warden and double jeopardy they offer salads, sandwiches, paninis and wraps. Everything is tasty and affordable. I have to say that I do really like 12th Brick. It is conveniently located in the old Disciplinary Barracks and has a neat ambiance. It is pretty cool knowing that you are eating where prisoners were once incarcerated. The menu is also whimsical with names like the jailbird, felon, etc. The sandwiches, wraps and paninis are all good, though I tend to like the paninis a bit more as they are huge and fill you up. The lunch combo is a great deal and comers with sandwich, chips, and drink for a pretty decent price. Also, you can snack on free popcorn while waiting in line. Best place to eat on post. It's cheaper than PX options and good sized portions. Can't go wrong with the clever sandwich names either ! I highly recommend the cuffed and stuffed. I came here almost every day I was at Leavenworth for lunch. With sandwich names like "The Jailbird", "Breakout", "Cuffed & Stuffed" and my personal fav "The Warden", how can you go wrong? Depending on the time you have for your lunch break I was limited to the restaurants on Ft. Leavenworth. I tried most all the places on post (ILE food court, PX, Commissary) and this was the BEST place to get lunch on post! I had the Jail Mate salad and it was super tasty. They don't skimp out on chicken (or you can get steak) or any of the toppings. If anything I'd almost say they need more lettuce, but that's very minor. The chipotle dressing brought it all together and was one of the better lunch/dinner salads I've ever had. They have indoor or outdoor sitting. Do not expect friendly service, they are far from it.Call ahead, you can get your food pretty easily and pay in a timely manner.If you then want to sit and eat then go ahead. What an awesome little grill! We had delicious sandwiches from this place and they provide great service. This is one of my favorite lunch spots in Leavenworth. We can walk here from our office so we add exercise and great food. The sandwiches and salads are amazing. I haven't found one I don't like. They give huge portions and they do take out. Service can be slow so calling ahead is the way to go. It usually takes about 20 min depending on how busy they are and how many orders you have. They have a nice sit-down atmosphere that gets crowded quick. The staff are great. You know you're a regular when they already have your order written down. The history behind the place is great. It's a nice bright spot in a busy busy day. read more
