We were in the area and decided to try this place on a recommendation from a friend. I got the pork chop breakfast which came with a loin chop, hash browns, 2 eggs and toast. I got scrambled eggs and a pancake instead of toast. Everything tasted really good. The eggs were soft scrambled, so if you prefer them harder, let them know. My hubby got chicken fried steak, over easy eggs, hash browns and toast. His food was really good as well. Nothing fancy, just good home style fare. The place was clean and they were pretty busy. I really enjoyed the liver and onions. I haven't had them since the last time. I was there a couple 3 years ago, and they are still good. Homemade mashed potatoes and gravy was good as well. Came here for breakfast this morning...bottom line, service great, food good, coffee is a giant thumbs down. They need some coffee that's not brown swill water, I noticed the coffee pot had Cain's on the side, and that could explain it. Eventhough Cain's is an Oklahoma company where I'm from. Cain's is no bueno. I got the corned beef hash and it was the real deal. Came with 2 eggs and two pieces of toast. Couldn't beat the price! 7.95! A real deal for me since I don't eat that much. We came here because we didn't know the area and wanted something quick. The service was pretty good, our waitress was quick but she didn't noticed that we had no utensils. We had to grab if from another table after she put down our soup, salad, and bread. The atmosphere was okay. It's like the name suggested, a little family restaurant. All the decor was a bit outdated but that's kinda what you expect from a little diner. I thought the food was meh. I didn't like my country steak that much. I tried the half malted waffle, strawberries and cream, with eggs and bacon. I love that our server asked how I wanted my bacon! No one ever asks and it matters! My food was served hot and the right portion sizes. Delicious! My husband tried out the corned beef hash, which he sadly didn't love. The servers seemed pretty overwhelmed. Delicious breakfast. New fave. The eggs are delicious. I didn't add salt or pepper. And the sausage was the best I've had since I've been in KS. Seemed like old school fresh sausage. One of our favorites in all of Leavenworth. We've made Sunday breakfast here a tradition of sorts, and have tried so much of the menu. Even when we arrive late and they've switched to lunch, the choices have been excellent. The taco salad, zephyr burger, ham, and cheese melt? Great. The well-rounded breakfast gives you everything you'd expect. Large sizes on the pancakes, excellent sausage, and nice and fluffy eggs if you like them scrambled, and the right texture if you like them sunny side up or slightly runny in a sandwich. The decor is excellent. I've spent time there looking at all of the pieces of art from the era, so many great signs and reference material. Pay attention to the special of the day! Always an opportunity to find something great! Here's a plus: you can eat comparably priced here, for a full, well-rounded meal, then some chain store in a bag for breakfast especially if you consider Coffee refills and the size of what you get. So, I've been passing by this place for 3 years now and finally gave it a try. I did a brunch pick up order of the Rock Island Line, The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe, Philly Steak and Corned beef hash. The burgers are like an original style of burgers nothing fancy but they do taste good! One thing I loved was the freshness of the lettuce tomato and onions that came with our burgers and sandwich. We absolutely enjoyed the Philly Cheesesteak, portion of meat and cheese sauce and onions was perfect. Corned beef hash was okay. We wouldn't say we'd order it again but there's lots to love on the menu here. Service was fast and efficient. Got there and my order was already sitting on the table. Ambiance, it's like an old school vibe. Love it. You'd be lucky if you get table cuz it's always packed. For now, we'll stick to PU orders but overall, GREAT place to eat. I went here at 7pm on a Saturday and got a seat immediately. I ordered the meat loaf and had a salad for an appetizer. The salad was a generous size and it was very good (thousand island dressing). I was very underwhelmed with the meatloaf meal. The meatloaf was average at best. The gravy was extremely salty, corn was soggy and bland and the mashed potatoes had a very weird after taste. They say the mashed potatoes are fresh, but did not taste good. The service was very good and the waiter was nice and attentive. I did get a slice of apple pie to go, which was very good. I really wanted to like this place. Since there are many great reviews, maybe I didn't order the beet dish or timing. I will try it again. read more

Wow. Above and beyond. We both ordered the same thing, and there was a problem with both orders the same item. The restaurant comp'd the whole meal and gave us both complimentary desserts. They apologized profusely and just asked that we give them another try. We definitely will, and probably tomorrow for breakfast. Wow. Talk about customer satisfaction. I ate there twice on this trip. Both times the service and food were excellent. Good home cooked Midwest food. Chicken fried chicken for dinner was really delicious and I had the hot meat loaf sandwich for lunch. A tad salty but still really good. Fast service and very friendly. read more
