From the moment we arrived we had an awesome experience. The host staff was awesome, the server was awesome, and the sushi chefs were out of this world! Sitting at the sushi bar is a must! During these tough times, my expectations for service and food have been very low. This said, the team at Sora has given me hope for hospitality again. The team has a real passion for the restaurant, constantly checked in to make sure we were happy, and everything we had was beyond our expectations. We can't wait to return, and we were thrilled to hear that this once "pop up" concept is now open 7 days a week. Oh man! My wife, daughter and I went to Sora yesterday and what a fantastic time we had! Our server was so nice, helpful and attentive. The restaurant is beautiful with lots of pink fake flora. We had an absolutely delicious meal at Sora tonight. I'd say it's the best sushi we've had since we moved to CLE from LA 12 years ago! The Totoro roll was so good we ordered 2! Same with the avocado truffle crispy rice. I also loved the Midnight Mist cocktail, but in totally going back so I can try the lavender margarita!!! I had family in town and I took them here for a fun vibe. The service was great, and we loved all of the food we got. The crispy rice is amazing (I love the spicy tuna). The potstickers are great. The chicken karaage, however is what really stands out from the apps. The sushi is a bit overpriced in my opinion. This place is perfect for a group of sushi lovers as well as the non-sushi lover. I will no longer recommend this place due to the prejudice & dehumanizing management. The stark difference between previous experiences & the latest experience is their new general manager Jason who left an infuriating impression on myself and my party. When addressing a menu item swap request he approached our table without asking how he could help and immediately became condescending while mansplaining that he is "a businessman" and would not compensate the sushi roll for another item on the menu. Out of all of the appetizers, entrees, and cocktails that we ordered AND enjoyed, another friend in my party found her roll to be low quality & off to the taste which he invalidated as a "good enough reason" to exchange. Not only was he disrespectful, he also became very heated, did not respect personal space, and even mocked the way we spoke. He angrily removed an item from our table spilling sauce on the table. Earlier in our visit, I also took note that Jason overly surveilled our section in the restaurant and even made an inappropriate joke stating he would physically assault staff members if our food wasn't up to par.  It was apparent this wasn't the only similar complaint of the evening for Jason and he made a decision before giving us an opportunity to explain our complaint. Unfortunately, we were unable to make the item swap because Jason's superior wasn't present and other managers had to abide by his ruling. We paid our bill in full and after making Jason aware of how his behavior made us feel he mimicked and repeatedly said "this isn't Bob Evan's" and that he "wasn't afraid" that we contacted his superior via email.  This entire experience left us feeling judged and taken advantage of due to race, gender, and age. It was even mentioned to us that his behavior is something that the staff is aware of and they have been "trying to get used to" his presence. I have never experienced a manager behave in this capacity here or anywhere else for that matter. I write this to say if it can happen to us, it can happen to you. would recommend any other restaurant in the Flats for better treatment. read more

We were seated at the bar overlooking the kitchen for a 8pm reservation on a Friday night . The place was busy and good energy and I had high expectations. We ordered 5 sushi roles and an appetizer. The appetizer came out in normal fashion and was good but then we waited for over an hour and our sushi never arrived. Multiple tables of people seated for only 10-15 minutes were receiving roles but nothing ever came for us. When we inquired with the waiter on expectations to get our food he sent over the manager who kept repeating how sorry and embarrassed she was and if we wanted to order something "off the hot menu". No explanation of what is taking so long or how much longer it would be until our food would arrive, just "I'm sorry and I'm embarrassed". It was super weird so we ended up leaving 1 hour and 15 minutes after we placed our initial order without receiving it. In retrospect they probably did us a favor because the guy working in the kitchen with the top knot hair style was coughing all over the food (wasn't wearing a mask or anything) so imagine most of their customers that night ended up sick. It was pretty gross and had us questioning if we would eat our food to begin with but alas it never arrived. I heard another waitress (not ours) complaining to the sushi chef that her table had been waiting on 4 roles for over an hour and was canceling their order and leaving. I hate to leave this review, but I'm pretty annoyed. Last Fall, I ordered the to go box of sushi while it was still a pop-up kitchen, and the sushi was bad. It all tasted fishy which was alarming. I quietly threw it away and just chose not to get it again. Then last night, I went with a reservation for 3 people. I called a few hours ahead of time to ask if we could change the reservation to 4 people, since with 3, we would already have been at a 4 top. They said they could not do that because the table only accommodates 3 people. We get to the restaurant, they seat us 30 mins after our reso, and there are 4 seats at the rectangular table. The 4th seat was not in the walk-way, and couldn't have been a fire hazard, etc. It's annoying that a simple accommodation was "impossible". There were no triangular tables in the restaurant, so there wouldn't have been a scenario where a fourth couldn't sit.. The food was fine, but compared to other sushi spots within a 5 min radius, like Gingko, Parallax, Goma, and Marble Room, I would never choose to go back here. I just wouldn't recommend it. Highly disappointed in Sora. The lack of flavor & small portions were shocking, because the presentation was beautiful. The crispy rice ($16) is not impressive, and they have to be paying somebody for reviews because they taste like guacamole & mcdonalds hashbrowns which is not a harmonious combination. Also you only get 2 poke tacos for full menu price. There is also barely any poke in it which was also a disappointment. It taste like a ginger salad, that they tried to pretend were tacos? The lettuce was also so tender (wilted I'm trying to be nice) that the skewer ripped right through.. I wanted to surprise my friend for her birthday, and the only surprises we got were tasteless food and empty bellies. Another shock was that my non-alcoholic "You're so Cuke" was upcharged for $7.75, but listed as only $6. I went on a Monday, so I cannot comment on their sushi, but I can speak on their secret menu, non-alcoholic drinks, and apps. DO NOT BE FOOLED........ THIS MENU IS NOT A SECRET YOU WANT TO UNCOVER. The first time we tried Sora everything was great. The service and food was amazing so I would give 5 stars. That's why we picked Sora to celebrate our friend's graduation from residency. So I left my information for my reservation for the party. Sarah emailed me back and told me what was entailed for our large group. First it would all be one check with automatic gratuity which was understandable. Then we could only pick 5 sushi off the whole sushi menu but order as many as we wanted from those 5. So we picked the 5 but then she told me we had to pre-order how many of each rolls we were going to eat and that we wouldn't be allowed to order sushi the night of. If we have to pre-order the sushi then why can't we order off the whole menu. That definitely didn't make sense to me and I've worked in the food service for 15 years. I understand they're probably worried about the amount of product they'll need but why limit the menu if we have to pre-order. We finally arrive for our party. Our server brings out the sushi before everyone arrives and we say something and he says that he was told to get the sushi of the window to make room. Why was the sushi made ahead of time before we even sat down? The whole group hadn't arrived yet, we weren't asked if we wanted drinks yet, and usually you gets drinks and apps before entrees. So it seemed like our party of 12 was an inconvenience for the restaurant. Finally the server comes back and gets drink order and hot food order. It didn't seem like the server was interested in being our server because he only came and checked on us once in a while and only refilled our water once. It was weird that he asked for all our menus after we just ordered drinks and apps. Like what if we wanted more food but too bad there's no menus. He then started bussing everything off our tables before we even got our checks. That's when it really felt like they didn't want us to be there and we were taking up tables. So I definitely recommend not bringing a large party to Sora because the service is bad and the sushi was not good because they made the sushi ahead of time. read more
