Small town, you get what you pay for type of place. Biscuits and gravy are pretty good.

My husband and I eat there at least once a week. They have great home cooked meals and homemade soups. Really friendly staff and low prices.

Was not worth, Beloit Family Restaurant is the better place to be. The food I got was cold, and the service was mediocre and not welcoming.

The Road Dawg Family Restaurant is my dad's regular Thursday spot, and he brings me here every time…read moreI'm in town. Located right off the interstate, it has that classic highway diner feel. The main sign on the pole has definitely seen better days, and the place as a whole feels a bit run down. As you walk in, be careful of the trip hazard at the entrance--it's a bit uneven. It's a little "divey," but don't let that be a dealbreaker. It's just an observation, a reminder not to judge a book by its cover. Note to management: Some minor fixes could give it a little more curb appeal. Stepping inside, you'll see the main dining room and an old buffet area that I assume hasn't been used since COVID. It's all a bit dated, but clean and functional. They serve breakfast all day and have a full lunch and dinner menu as well. Even though it was a relatively busy Sunday morning, we were greeted and seated quickly and didn't have to wait long for our initial service. Almost before I could take a sip of my no-frills, bottomless cup of $3 coffee, our giant portions of breakfast arrived. It was an omelette kind of day for us. We placed a special order for my dad (he's got his usual), I got the Denver Omelette ($14) with jalapeños, and my stepmom ordered the Meat Eaters Omelette ($15). They opted for toast, and I got the pancakes, which were a meal in themselves. While the prices have increased significantly since my first visit, the large portions are big enough to share or take half home, which is exactly what we did. We were a little ignored and never asked if everything was as expected. We did, however, get coffee refills and eventually received the bill and some to-go boxes. Another note to management: The bell that incessantly rings every time someone comes or goes needs to go! By the time we left, I was anxious and extremely tired of the bell. I feel sorry for the employees who have to listen to that all day long! Overall, this place does a good and honest business. Aside from the bell and the slight dip in attention, we enjoyed our meal.

The dinner rolls were warm and perfect. The ribs were fabulous. We loved the bourbon glaze. The meat was very tender. I had pan fried walleye which was excellent but I did get some bones. It was a large piece of fish and I enjoyed thw mashed potatoes. We also had wonderful old fashions. We actually wanted an ice cream dessert but they were huge. So we had a great teramisu which we shared and couldn't even finish. We can't wait to go back. The wait staff was very friendly and knew the menu well when we asked questions. It is a very comfortable environment and clean. Can't wait to go back.

The hostess asked if we had a reservation and I explained that we didn't as we were driving by and were just taking things in for the day. She quickly found us a table and we were seated in a jiffy. Our waiter Luke, was extremely kind, friendly and attentive. My water glass was always full and we were checked up on throughout our visit. The food was excellent and the soup and salad bar was a very nice surprise. We were stuffed as we finished. We can't wait to come back and indulge in the wonderful ice cream drinks that we saw other tables enjoying for dessert. Thanks to all your staff for providing such a nice evening.
