This place was in Beloit, and I honestly didn't expect it to look the way it did. It had a really interesting atmosphere and felt like a classic local tavern. I ordered the Tuesday special: chicken wings with waffle fries and coleslaw. I also got mozzarella sticks. The food was insanely simple but so delicious. Everything was hot, flavorful, and satisfying. The service was also great. Hate to give this place a one star since I have been going here since I was a kid, but if you sit, get drinks, and get ignored for 25 minutes I'm not sure what else you can rate. Was looking forward to the goulash too Perhaps it was an off night. Word of advice, better to not open up than disappoint people. Maybe just close the kitchen and keep the bar open. read more

First time at The Mouse, charming little bar/restaurant. Beer was cold, food was GREAT! Ribeye sandwich was the bomb. Saturday special chicken and dumplings worth going back for. Our server Randi handled the supper crowd like a champ. Can't wait to go back next time we're in Beloit. read more

The food is great here! The menu is uncomplicated and tastes great! We have always had great service! Tonight we had to wait a little longer for our meal. It wasn't even a bother as our drinks were cold and the atmosphere was lively! The dumpling is HUGE! And you get some extra gravy, which is never a bad thing in my book! Don't miss out on it!! This place has been around for as long as I can remember. I haven't been in for drinks but a couple of times. I come here for the fish fry! Arguably the best in the State line area. Huge crispy cod fillets! Excellent value. The place has some history behind it. One of these days I need to try their chicken and dumplings. read more

Neighborhood bar with a few tables for dining. Every night there's a special. Sat at the bar and loved the laid back atmosphere, yummy food and friendly people. I had the patty melt. Will be back for the fish fry. read more

Cannot rave enough about this place!! So much food for incredible reasonable prices!! The Mouse is decorated with so many Mickey Mouse decorations and all of the food is great. Saturday is chicken and dumplings night... 2 piece fried chicken with the biggest mound of dumplings with extra gravy you've ever seen plus a side (cole slaw, side salad, or applesauce) and rolls.... for $8!!! My only complaint is I wish it were bigger to handle more people. The mouse is an amazing family owned business that's been around for decades. Tommy and his family treat everyone as if they are family when in their restaurant/ bar. read more

Just what the doctor ordered!!! We were looking for a local place to eat and have a drink and the Mouse definitely fit the bill. We had an elderly mother and two kids with us and this was a comfortable place for all with excellent food. We were in town for one night and wanted to bring back some New Glarus beer and fresh cheese. The owner sent us to Tex's Market with a printed map and we filled up with goodies to take home. I would definitely stop by next time I'm in the area. read more

We can't get enough of their Saturday night special. Chicken and Dumplings to die for! (Order extra gravy. Trust me on this one. You will understand when you see what they call a dumpling!) I visited The Mouse for the first and only time last week. It's a very small place with a dive bar kinda feel, but the tables were clean and the service was quick. It seems to be constantly packed by regulars (as the regulars I was with told me) and everyone seems to know each other. I had a grilled chicken salad which was larger than I expected and very very fresh. No skimping on toppings. I think they make their own ranch dressing from scratch and it was delicious. They have different specials every day and on Friday (when I was there) it was a few kinds of fish (which I don't eat, so I can't testify to that). My companion ordered a burger with onion rings. I didn't try any of his burger, but the onion rings were delicious. Skinnier slices than normal with a solid, crispy breading. Several beers on tap including the beloved New Glarus Spotted Cow which cannot be purchased just across the state line in Illinois. Overall, this was a pretty solid, low-key and inexpensive place to eat in a quiet little town. Bring cash or plan to pay ATM fees, because they don't take credit or debit. read more
