Signage for the drive through was a bit confusing but service was fast! We ordered 4 gyros with 2 smoky clam chowders and 2 greek lemon chicken soups. The gyros had a good flavor but could benefit from more onions and tomatoes. The smoky chowder had a nice flavor but was a bit watery for my preference. The star of the show was that chicken lemon soup! It was surprisingly sour, but it became more addictive with each bite. I was so sure I wrote a review for Sophia's last summer. I had a delightful experience for brunch. I distinctly remembering wanting to write a review because there were so many surprises. Surprise #1 - This place has an incredible inside area. There are small alcoves for quiet conversations and a large area that could accommodate larger groups or families. Surprise #2 - The artwork is fun! The ocean lover in me loves the wave across an entire wall. Surprise #3 - The food is tasty and fresh. Okay, maybe this shouldn't be a "surprise." I guess I just wasn't expecting such a delightful and diverse menu. Generally my thought is that we don't have any Greek food in the valley and that is false. Surprise #5 - Take out is fast and meticulous. I wasn't expecting anything but a breakfast sandwich (I don't think the menu mentioned anything else). But upon arrival at work I opened my box to find half of the juiciest orange I have eaten in recent memory. Surprise #5 - At this point, great service and an attention to detail and flavor shouldn't be a surprise. This unassuming cafe is worth a stop. Put it on your list to try! read more

It pains me to ever write a bad review, but I came to this coffee shop because of all the good reviews and it unfortunately did not match up for me. I love coffee shops and was in the area so I stopped by for a "quick" coffee and breakfast. The oat milk latte I ordered was half foam and the waitress realized after I drank it that it indeed was not oat milk but whole milk. Oat milk is not a dietary necessity, but my stomach does prefer it. This could be a big issue for someone else. It was nice of her to catch it and she offered me a new one but I had already drank it. My waitress, she was very kind despite the mishap. But then it took me over an hour to receive my Spanakopita from the breakfast menu. It felt like an eternity. Definitely the longest I've ever had to wait for a coffee shop food item in my life. The item was primarily cheese and my dairy consumption is absolutely maxed for the day. I am leaving with very little time to finish my morning errands and a huge stomach ache. I unfortunately will not be back. read more

I was looking for a little breakfast this morning. After reviewing some options, we decided to try Sophia's Kafe. We were not disappointed. Clean quaint locally owned with patriotic decor, we sat and were greeted by friendly staff. Amazing traditional Greek pastries and some classics. Gluten-free options as well as loose leaf teas. We ordered quiche of the day, a spinach and feta...words can not express the delightful taste, perfectly seasoned with a flaky crust. Another amazing dish is the French toast. The homemade bread topped with cinnamon and powder sugar needed no syrup. I have never had a French bread taste so magnificent. Coffee prices are comparable to other coffee stand. The ambiance reminded me of a sweet little coffee/tea shop. The front was difficult to see, but Palmer has a real gem. I will recommend it to all and we will be back. read more

My absolute favorite place to eat in the valley. They have great breakfast as well as lunch (my favorite being the gyro). Staff is always friendly although I know lately they have been short staffed so it can take a little bit of time during the rush, but not terribly long. read more

This is almost a hidden gem, except it's not hidden. The staff is exceptional and the food is phenomenal. It is a few cents more than you may want to dole out, but it's worth it. All their food is good, but come by in the morning and you won't be disappointed. read more

Delicious!! I had the Gyro with a cup of clam chowder. My wife had a bowl of clam chowder with hot bread and a mocha frappe. Once again, everything was delicious. The tzatziki sauce is homemade which you can taste the effort put into it. It really boost the overall experience from the gyro. read more

Sophia's Kafe is one of my favorite spots to go to. My mom and I used to go every Friday whenever I was in high school and we would always get soup and fresh baked bread with oil. Wonderful atmosphere and good eats. It's a great place for small groups of people. read more

We were very disappointed in our overall experience here, having decided to try it based on all the glowing reviews. They were out of several menu items (not even soup of any kind) so all but one of us had to pick a different meal. The waitress was not unfriendly, but certainly not welcoming or cheerful. The food was expensive and we felt not worth it. A couple examples- French toast ($12) is served with real maple syrup and orange slices (nice touch) but it is what typically would be used for bruschetta! Taste was ok, but it's just 4 or 5 pieces of small crusty bread. Not impressed. Pita chips (kid's nacho alternative) with hummus is also about $12, and again, ok but overpriced for what it is. Stuffed grape leaves were probably the worst choice- no different than you find in Costco. Definitely not made there, or if so, not 'real Greek'. Probably the one really good thing any of us had was a milkshake ($7) which despite the price was at least very tasty. The atmosphere is pleasant but strange. The building seems to be a converted warehouse, and we noted a ceiling fixture hanging by the wires (glad we weren't sitting under that!). The music was slow and dreary, almost what you'd expect in a nursing home. That seemed odd, given that the only people working appeared to be high school age. On the plus side, there is a lot of artwork displayed and it seemed very clean. By the time our food arrived it was only 20 minutes to their posted closing (3 pm), and despite a menu that encourages you to 'relax and slow down', we felt rushed to eat quickly. As soon as we were served our food we were given the bill and told they needed to cash out. At this point the (same) waitress seemed a bit rude. There was only one other customer in the place, and we saw no drive through business, which should have been our indicator that maybe it wasn't the best choice. We were bummed out, as we all love Greek food and had expected at least an average experience. read more

This is hands down one of my favorites in the Valley. Their lemon-chicken soup with homemade bread is excellent! I have a hard time deciding what is my favorite because the sandwiches and salads are great too! I had the best mocha last time I was there also. Every time I've eaten here, I have enjoyed it. The inside isn't the warmest decor, and the waitress might not be the most attentive, but the food is always wonderful. Plus it's right next to Thrifters Rock so it's fun to browse afterwards. read more

This is a lovely place if you're looking to be transported to a European cafe! The restaurant is decorated like a small greek building that has love and care in every corner. There is themed music and soft lighting, with high ceilings giving the area a light but romantically peaceful vibe. The food is fresh, fast, and authentic, I highly suggest the veggie gyro! Dishes so loosely interpreting Greek dishes that the original dish is completely lost in translation. Admittedly, this was our first time at Sophia's. I was really looking forward to some traditional Greek dishes...even the basics (read also, easy ones) are not found here. Yes, Gyros are on the menu but they are nowhere close to the real thing. Frozen strips of gyro meat doesn't do it for me. Neither does the ill flavored tzaziki. Wait staff...she was trying to put on a pleasant and peppy demeanor but her execution fell short and showed her lack of both experience and training. Once again, a wanna-be foreign food "kafe" in Alaska that falls too short of accurately representing the food or the culture the advertise and charging way too much $$ for the ill attempt. read more
