For how many times I've gone to Soong Thai, its about time I give them a little love. They've got to be my favorite Thai restaurant ever. I should probably also state that I really just like Pad Thai. I haven't even tried any of their curries but people say they're great too. Service is pretty good too, very small dining area makes for a cozy feeling. During lunch, they give spring rolls as appetizers if you get one of their lunch specials. They were just all right. Tried some calamari as well and it was pretty standard stuff, just battered and fried with a sweet chili sauce. If this was all they had to offer, I wouldn't even bother writing this review. Let's skip right to the good stuff: Chicken Pad Thai. Where to begin? The dish looks awesome. I swear they've killed thousands of orchid plants because each time they've got a flower as decoration. I'm pretty sure you could eat it too. Very fancy-cut carrot made to look like flowers also make for a cool, edible decoration. The chicken: tender, and flavorful. It seemed to integrate into the dish perfectly. The noodles are always tender and never sticky, soggy or hard. The veggies are all cooked perfectly to make a very harmonious dish with plenty of texture. The aroma is unforgettable, especially if you like it hot. And their "Thai Hot" is really, really hot! Makes me sweat just thinking about it. The ratio of noodles, veggies and chicken is perfect. I never felt like I had too much or too little of one or the other. Perfectly blended so that every bite is a great one. Finally, the thing that really makes this Pad Thai stand out from all the rest (Thai Silk/Red Bamboo, SEA Thai) is the layers of flavor. You can taste every bit of what they've used to make this dish. I can taste the tanginess of the limes and tamarind. The spiciness of the peppers. The putrid smell of fish sauce (I generally really hate fish sauce alone, but in their Pad Thai, its very subtle and enhances the entire dish). The sweetness of...sugar, maybe honey. Every flavor you'd expect in the dish is there, and you can taste it all. I should add that it has never been bad. Even when I made the stupid mistake of asking for "Thai Hot". Start low and go slow with that heat, otherwise it will mask all the other flavors! Price-wise, its less than $10 for lunch. Stop in and give them a shot! The dinner portion is a bit larger and about $15. Its a huge dish but its so good that I've never had leftovers. I've been to Thai restaurants other than in Orlando too, but there's just none that can make Pad Thai like Soong Thai can. This is a must-visit, even if its waaaay out of your way. read more

I ate here when my family and I were staying at a near by hotel. I ordered the pad thai, and the waitress suggested I get medium spicy (because I am a self-proclaimed pad thai connoisseur). The pad thai at Soong is hands down the best pad thai I have ever tasted. They keep the bean sprouts fresh and separate. It was so incredible. I still crave it. I eat at Soong Thai about twice per month since they opened and have yet to ever be disappointed with either their food or their service. The spiciness of the food can vary a bit more than it should (I order Thai hot) depending on who's cooking but this is the only negative I can think of and that's pretty minor. read more

Without question the worst thai food we have ever eaten, everything was disgusting and we know Thai food having been to Thailand 5 times! We ordered Chicken Satay, Pad Thai, Hurricane Shrimp, Tom Kha Gai, Spring Rolls and Wonton Soup. The ingredients were way below par, chewy chicken, sloppy Pad Thai, Dishwater soup. My family and I have been going to Soong Thai for years. We love their authentic flavor and style. They have great specials at lunch and early dinner. The Chicken Pad Thai is so delicious. This is a quaint, well run family restaurant with the high quality, authentic flavors, excellent service, all at a great value. Their red thai curry is the best I have had anywehere, and I have yet to duplicate it at home. The Thai hot version did not hold back, and was not just hot, but flavorful. Even the rice had fantastic flavor. Spring rolls, Summer rolls, pad thai etc were fantastic. I must order some of their specialties, and must keep going back. They offer frogs legs, squid, duck, and a very extensive menu. I look forward to my return. The service is friendly and good, as it is a small place. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I signed up just to write this review. Saturday night I called for take out at 9:50 and was told they are closed - I knew they closed at 10 and it was a long shot but I wanted to try anyways. Sunday we decided to just go there for dinner. I noticed a sign on the door that said last seating on Sunday was 8:30, even though the hours of operation were until 10. It was 8:31 when I looked at my phone so I went in and asked for a table for three and a sling and I was told they are closed. So I showed her my phone still on and said it's 8:31 - really one minute? She just said sorry. So I walked out all annoyed while my husband was at the door with the car seat. He then went in and tried to explain the fact that we had an infant we were trying to get out the car etc (she was almost 10 weeks old and this was our first attempt to go out for dinner). She told him sorry her clock says 8:34 and we could order take out but refused to let him speak to the manager. So we left and went to Olive Garden instead. So disgusted by their behavior. read more

This pains me to write but I feel like I must do so upon my last few visits to this once wonderful, hidden gem of a restaurant. Moving here from New York I was extremely excited to try this restaurant people spoke very highly of. For years, I was in love with everything they made, from their pad thai to their curries which were simply delicious. Recently, however, I have found that in the last year of visiting this establishment, I am not certain if its due to the lack of customers or visiting even when they are packed at times but there have been many incidences when I have come in and the air conditioner or fan, whichever they feel like using at the moment is never on in the Florida heat and the place is hot. Upon sitting down, you are greeted with a time limit if you arrive after 8:00 p.m. (since they close at 9:00 p.m.) to place any and everything you want to order, including dessert! Their need to rush and hurry repeat customers, like myself, made that even more of a negative that makes the sweeping and mopping while customers are still in the restaurant really unprofessional. I understand, having worked retail that no one wants to be there past their shift but when it comes to dining and food service a little more tack should be shown and taken on their part. The appetizers that I ordered, and once use to enjoy on multiple occasions, not just once, I mean MULTIPLE times the angel wings with the pork have tasted as if the meat is years old, the crab stuffed wontons have no crab meat in it whatsoever and the cream cheese goodness that once tasted so nice with the curry sauce tastes like extremely rotten, sour cheese. Now I know most may think I am exaggerating but believe me I once loved this place to the point of never wanting to ever have to review them this way, but I have brought multiple people here with me to dine with all different tastes in cuisines but one thing we could agree on is their lack of desire in wanting to pay a second visit to this place. read more

Thai is my favorite food bar none. That being said i have eaten at Thai restaurants all over the country in my business and personal travels. Although there are some very good restaurants out there, and many with great ambience, Soong Thai is my overall favorite for food flavor. The food is just bursting with flavors. I'm so glad i only live 25 minutes away from such a great restaurant. We eat here about once a week and i never get tired of it. When my son and daughter come home to visit its the first place they want to go!. Ambience is just ok, but the staff is great and food is even better. Also, i'm a heat freak as well and when i do order it Thai hot, i am breaking a sweat during the meal. I usually order it just "Hot" and add the thai chiles in fish sauce from the spice tray you can request. BEWARE: FLIES IN FOOD!!!! This was my first time at Soong Thai, I thought I would try it since friends stated that the food was pretty good. I went during lunch time with my child. I ordered the crab ragoons, which were ok. I ordered Pad Thai with chicken which came with chicken soup and an egg roll. As I was eating the chicken soup and feeding it to my child I noticed that there was a bug in the soup. It was a fly!!! I informed the waitress. And she stated: "oh well it's only a fly, would you like more soup?" I was astonished by the respond and stated NO!!! I told her we were leaving and she stated that the Pad Thai was coming out and that they will still charge me for the Pad Thai since they made it already. I was extremely upset and asked her if there were going to be bugs in it. And she laughed. I asked for the owners name and number and informed her if my son gets sick I will be calling my attorney. FYI: FLIES ARE THE DIRTIEST BUGS AS THEY CARRY MANY BACTERIAS!!!! The owner called me and he was EXTREMELY RUDE!!!! He also stated that what his employees did was good judgment call. Are you Serious???? That will be the last time I ever go there, I prefer paying more money and going to Ayothaya Thai Cuisine on Sand Lake. read more
