Delicious cake - forgot which one was this. Its all chocolate
Marcella A.

This was my first time ever coming here. I actually received this cake as a gift so I had to come to the physical business and give them a try. I honestly did not think the price of the cake would be so expensive. The small cake was $45.00 so kinda of broke the bank . It was a for a anniversary. Next time I think I would had order a couple of samples to try out the different types of cake. I will know that for next time. The service was great , answered all of my questions and was overall great.

It is no wonder this Pastry/chocolate/bread bakery was named Best in NJ last year. It is tastefully set up with seating (though seating is limited). The bread/chocolate side of the bakery is delightful with perfectly made chocolates and beautiful breads. The menu has great sandwich selections that are authenticly French. The pastry side makes you want to say "Yes!" To each item.... they all look scrumptious. There are plenty if employees eager to take your order and care you are well cared for... good service. Will return (for 3rd time)

Searching for Bergen County's best pastries, pies, cakes, and cookies? Just the sight of a fresh French or Italian pastry shop can activate one's sweet tooth. From traditional flaky baked goods to epic decadent creations, look no further. Voted 2025 Best of Bergen for Place A For A Sweet Treat, my partner, our friends, and I ventured yesterday inside Sook Pastry on S Broad Street in Ridgewood for a return visit after 2 years. Upon entering the cozy seating area with six bistro tables, we were invited to wood paneling that featured the warm and inviting vibe by the light fixtures hanging from the ceiling. Pictures of bread further adorned the walls, with a shelf filled with cookies and other goodies available for purchase. A great see-through window in the back of the store is where customers can see the bakers at work in the kitchen. The staff are in back of the pastry cases filled with delicious full-sized cakes, tarts, breads, baked goods, and unique desserts. We were greeted by Gabbi and decided on the Raspberry Brioche, Peach Tart, and Tropical Tart. The pastries were light and not overly sweet. A tad pricey, but it's authentic and delicious. The chef who owns and runs it was trained in Paris to master the art of making croissants and pastries. The service was quick and efficient. It's no surprise that patrons like to indulge in "the finer things" in life once in a while, which we can recommend.

Hot Chocolate

After dinner, we stopped by Sook for some hot chocolate and it was so good. The cup of hot chocolate (small, 8 oz) was nice and warm and deliciously chocholatey. Definitely one of the best hot chocolates I've had.

Here's a clearer and more cohesive version: "I love great French bakeries, and this one does not disappoint. Thankfully, their cakes and pastries are not as sweet as the average ones I've tried in recent years. With so many exquisite options on display, it was hard to choose, but the cashier was incredibly helpful. She patiently guided me through the selection, explaining which desserts were gluten-free, which were lighter, and which were richer, helping me pick based on my preferences. My husband and I decided on "The Godwin", a gluten-free hazelnut and cream cake, and "The Lincoln", a chocolate mousse cake with a liqueur-infused bottom. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be tough, as both were delicious. You can truly taste the care and passion they put into their baked goods. The bakery also has a window into the kitchen, so you can watch the bakers prepare the cakes and fresh bread. If you're in the mood for something more substantial, they offer a lovely lunch menu, including crepes, and French toast (with or without proteins like eggs, bacon, or sausage), as well as sandwiches, quiches, and soups. For gifts, they have a variety of thoughtful options like specialty chocolates, premium coffee, and boxes of their cakes and tarts. I was beyond thrilled with their decaf coffee. It was rich and bold, the perfect pairing for any of their desserts. Definitely worth the trip! The service was fast and efficient, and they have nine cozy bistro tables where you can sit and enjoy your food. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and parking is available on the street, with metered spots nearby.

Surprised to learn about this extremely popular and famous bakery in Ridgewood just today. It's was relatively busy when we walked in. They have few tables to sit in the store. There's not much space to roam around freely. They have a big collection of freshly made bread, pastries, desserts alongside serving hot and cold drinks. They also have menu for breakfast and lunch. We got some bread, flan and pastries from here. They were fantastic. Justifies all the accomplishment articles and awards I saw in the store.

Wei H.

Tried their flan. A bit different from the traditional ones. It's creamy and with dough on the bottom and on the side. Service is quick. It's a small shop so it gets crowded with a few people.

Lisa B.

Lovely bakery with absolutely beautiful baked goods. They are always busy so it takes a little time to get your drinks and order but there are plenty of tables to sit and eat inside and outside. Stopped in today after sushi next door to grab a coffee and dessert. Yummy.

Stopped by this bakery with some friends and tried the best almond croissant I've ever had in my life! My caramel latte was excellent as well, but the almond croissant was flaky, and super flavorful. The service was quick as well and you could tell this bakery is loved by the amount of people waiting in line.

Do the pastries taste as good as they look? Mehhhhh... I came by around 10pm for a post-dinner treat. After looking through the reviews, I was excited to try one item in particular: the key lime tart. Sadly, they ran out :( It's understandable, considering how busy they are and how late I came in. After taking some time looking at the displays, I ended up getting two mini cakes instead, which cost close to $20. For that price, I was expecting to have some of the best cakes of my life. Unfortunately, they were mediocre. -The Broad (coconut sponge with mango & passion mousse and raspberry filling): VERY tarty and sweet. A bit overwhelming but it was the better one out of the two. -The Woodland (madeline sponge with cream cheese, lemon zest, strawberries): While I did like the spongy texture, there was very little flavor... it just tasted like a plain cake with strawberry puree in the middle. Not impressed... but I'm willing to give Sook another try. Next time I'll try a few more pastries and maybe a crepe. They do have a variety of other things to try like tarts, macarons, breakfast baked goods, croissant sandwiches, bread, and drinks... so hopefully next time will be a redemption.

Stopped in for some pastry's and was shocked at how many options they had! They were constantly baking new pastries in the back and even had a fresh orange juice squeezing machine. We got a bunch of pastries and some tarts and they were all done perfectly, the croissants are really awesome would definitely recommend. The espresso machine looked extremely professional I wish I got a coffee but next time!

Godwin and Lincoln.
Brandon C.

I like Sook Pastry. This bakery offers an impressive array of delicious pastries, cakes, and bread. Greeted with a warm smile and the aroma of freshly baked goods. The display case was filled with an assortment of treats, making it difficult to choose just one. We opted for the individual cakes, a Lincoln and the Godwin. The Lincoln, chocolate focused, had thin layers of cake, and when cut with a fork, oozed a liqueur, both complimentary and suitable for the cake. The Godwin, hazelnut with cream, was delicate. Both were not overly sweet and equally delicious. The cakes were carefully crafted, and ingredients are top quality. These are obviously not bulk manufactured from some mega-bakery that caters to the over-the-top bold rich sugary desert lovers. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, happy to offer recommendations and answer questions. If you like French pastries, visit Sook Pastry. I will!

Cassy B.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Service - fantastic. Super helpful, the line moved so quick. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable about all their items. Sook is what baked good dreams are made of. I opted for the bakery but will be back sometime for the bread and chocolate shop because - how could I not? After having dinner in Ridgewood I dragged my boyfriend to Sook for some dessert to take home. After drooling and looking at their showcase we settled on a fruit eclair and a key lime tart. The tart was literally a work of art. Scrumptious, delicious, packed with fresh flavor. This was one of my favorite desserts I've ever had. Get it, just trust me. My boyfriend loved the eclair. I also got some other goodies to try the next day. A croissant - perfect, flaky, buttery. Everything you want a croissant to be. A chocolate croissant and an almond croissant also somehow fell into my bag. Both delectable. I mean I probably won't be able to have a croissant from anywhere else and be fully satisfied. We also got two coffees which were delicious and a perfect end to our foodie filled night. This store is truly perfect for dessert or a breakfast pastry. It's small but the line moves quick and they have a nice little outdoor dining section available. Cant recommend Sook enough!

Ask the Community - Sook Pastry

Are they open for dine-in?

Yes, three tables/spots inside and outdoors igloos weather permitting.

Is this place open for delivery/pick-up?

Pickup YES

Can they make birthday cakes? Or at least write the name on the cake?

Yes

Are Kougin Amann's on the daily menu?

Yes. I did see them. But like every good tasting pastry ( which is everything !) at Sook, not many would remain by the end of the day.

Do they run out of things fast? Specifically, the pastries, i.e. fruit tarts, fruit eclairs, small cakes, that are on display. I plan to visit in the late afternoon.

I've been during weekdays very late and during weekends late afternoons and they always had a lot of things. They are open until late so I guess they plan to have stuff all day long.

We had several servers handling our order. To start, I had a hot tea with honey. The honey was an interesting consistency and was not as thick as expected. Seemed to be a little watery but the taste was good when mixed in my tea. For appetizer, we split the Crispy Ddukbokki which were sweet & spicy crispy rice cakes with a side of a soft boiled egg, topped with everything seasoning. We both really enjoyed the flavor of these rice cakes. For my main course, I had the Rainbow Salad with grilled chicken. The portion was very good and all of the veggies in the salad were super fresh. The presentation was very pretty. Parking can be a bit tricky but luckily we were able to find parking on one of the side streets. Overall a cute little breakfast/brunch place in the Glen Rock downtown. It does get very busy on weekends so reservations are a must.

We started with a Rose Latte and Cafe Latte. Both beverages were phenomenal, at the perfect temperature, and in large mugs. The entrees were fantastic: Crispy Ddukbokki (sweet and spicy crispy rice cakes, jammy egg, everything seasoning) and the Egg Breakfast (2 eggs, Turkey Bacon, Toast, Tater-Tots). The Ddukbokki was firm, pleasantly spicy, and that sauce was exquisite. The Egg Breakfast was deliciously seasoned and filling. One thing that I appreciate about Honey Day is, that it takes a fair amount of time for the food to be presented. I don't mind that, at all. Once the food arrives, you could tell that it was all made fresh and with appealing presentations. Honey Day will continue to be a breakfast/brunch top pick and hope everyone enjoys their memorable food.

Once you sit down you scan a QR Code to order your food and drinks. I was pretty hungry that day so we ended up ordering a ton of food. The drinks were pretty good and they were served in Le Creuset mugs. Not the biggest deal, but I can appreciate some nice drinkware. The bowl of Kimchi Fried rice came out first. It was a generous portion and the rice was cooked well, but I feel like it could've used some more kimchi. The eggs on top were cooked perfectly and added good texture to the dish. The next dish to come out was the HK French toast. The bread was nice and fluffy which paired well with a nice generous drizzle of condensed milk. I enjoyed this a lot. We also ordered scallion pancake, pork barbecue, and bossam baos. These were ok, I would probably pass on a return visit. I felt like the meat in the baos was a little tough though they did have decent flavor. The last entree was the smoked salmon and avocado croissant; I really enjoyed this. It had a generous helping of smoked salmon and avocado as well. The saltiness of the salmon paired well with the creamy and fatty avocado. The croissant was also nice and flaky. It was also served with a house salad which had a nice drizzle of dressing on it too. For dessert we ordered a Black Sesame Souffle Pancake. This was SO good. A few months ago I visited a place in Princeton that specialized in these Japanese-style pancakes and Tasty Junction's version was so much more enjoyable. I loved that it was served with a healthy scoop of ice cream. The pancake was airy and had a bounce to it. Each bite was so good and made even better with the ice cream. I'd definitely come back just for the pancakes. All in all Tasty Junction is a great spot tucked away in Glen Rock

I had some serious crackhead energy after this drink LOL. I was ready to run for president, start a YouTube channel, and take over the world!!! All jokes aside, you gotta love coffee that is not only tasty, but STRONG. Catalano Coffee is a small business that does it right. The owner is super passionate and knowledgeable about the industry. They serve locally roasted organic coffee from around the world. This is the place to experiment with different roasts and origins to find the pour of your dreams. Pricing is a bit higher than other cafes, but I'm willing to pay more for high quality beans. I've tried a couple of different drinks and my favorites are the specialty lattes. I recommend the maple and mocha lattes if you want something that is on the sweeter (but not sickeningly sweet) side. The baristas know how to create the right balance of steamed milk and espresso. The espresso is deep and rich. The additional flavors are not overpowering and add the right amount of natural sweetness to the bitter notes. This is a quiet and cozy spot to sip on a drink while getting work done. There's comfortable furniture, free wifi, and outlets. Very simple decor with a bright, welcoming atmosphere. There's space to wait for your order too- so if it's cold or raining, there's room for you. They're open 7a-7p which is great. It was busy when I ran in today around 12:45p on a Sunday and that's always a good sign. It looks clean and the drinks I saw looked appetizing. The food menu sounds fantastic. The guy who helped me with my order was super nice. But I actually went in there on the hunt for something specific. It's the 2nd time I went in since they moved to the space across the street from where they were. The first time I stopped in quickly and saw they had what I was looking for but very few so I didn't buy anything. l had done a very difficult and time intensive Google search for Macaron Cafe macarons. They wholesale out of NYC and they're the best macarons ever. There are probably 6-7 places in Ridgewood that sell macarons, some that make them fresh baked. And none are as good as the ones from Macaron Cafe. Pre-covid I could find them locally pretty easily. But now, it's really hard. Most of the places that sell them put up a menu of the flavors that's very easily identifiable, and they carry the full line. By googling a photo of the menu I was able to find them in Fort Lee and American Dream and those are both too far. I'd gone into every single place that sells macarons in downtown Ridgewood except RCC and none of them have them. I finally made it into Ridgewood when RCC is open (we usually end up in Ridgewood after dinner and they're closed) and imagine my joy in seeing the macarons there. I can tell it's them instantly. Except - they only have like eight of the flavors! They don't advertise them. They don't have the menu up either, so they only way I could tell there might be a chance of them being there was an old photo of their counter from Yelp or Google. So, I didn't have any drinks or food. I just bought some macarons. And I would've bought more except that they didn't really have the flavors I wanted. There are generally around 28-32 flavors and they change/add/take away every few months/holidays, etc. My knocking a star is ONLY for the lack of flavors of these amazing macarons and only having a tease amount of flavors of them. And they should advertise their baked goods/desserts better, like in photos on instagram. They don't post enough of all their food. I had to just take a chance and come in from an old photo. I know I don't want to have to drive to American Dream mall for these macarons. And I know the girls behind me in line today were talking about how they came in for tiramisu.
