Dined here recently for dinner. I had booked an outdoor table, but it ended up being too chilly to sit outside--thankfully the staff was accommodating. It had been years since my last visit, so it felt like a brand-new experience. I made a reservation online, though it wasn't really necessary that evening. Still, it's a plus that you can easily choose between indoor and outdoor seating when booking. Parking in their onsite lot is another convenience. The restaurant has a cozy, intimate feel, and there's a small bar that offers a happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 4-7 PM. We started with cocktails: a refreshing white sangria with mango and a mojito. Both were well-made and reasonably priced--$7 and $8. For appetizers, we had the coconut shrimp served over sliced plantains with a lemongrass sauce. The flavors were good, but the shrimp were noticeably over-fried (see my video), which took away from what could have been a standout dish. Sonora's menu offers a diverse Latin-inspired selection with dishes from South America, Cuba, Mexico, Portugal, and Puerto Rico. I was intrigued by the variety. I chose a Cuban-inspired dish: Angus skirt steak served with lobster and plantain fried rice and topped with a quail egg saffron lime garlic mojito sauce. The steak was tender and cooked to order, but the fried rice was underwhelming--just a hint of lobster flavor with only a few tiny pieces of lobster. The quail egg was nicely done. My friend ordered a Colombian dish: chicken stuffed with sweet plantain, goat cheese, peppers, and chorizo, served with saffron mashed potatoes and a sweet sherry sauce. She loved it and said the portion size was generous--I passed on a taste but took her word for it! They also offer brunch, jazz nights, and a paella night, which I'd love to check out in the future. I love this place. I have eaten here a few times, the last time was on March 28. The lomo salted and the branzino with risotto were divine. We also loved the Brazilian cosmo. The tapas we had, the eggplant, the fish tacos were also good. The service was outstanding. read more

I had some really fabulous drinks and appetizers at happy hour. Drinks were really on point and we really enjoyed the guacamole as well as the goat cheese balls in guava sauce and eggplant meatball. I haven't had a meal this poor in quite some time. We had multiple tapas and entrees and outside of the guac, everything was of poor quality and cook. Shirt steak tapa-- a small piece of very tough meat on a big piece of bread. A real rip off. Fish taco- so dry it was like eating a tire. No attention to the fryer. Eggplant meatballs- got on my stomach. Acidic sauce. I don't get it. Doesn't the chef taste his food. Was he even there? Or is he schooling his cooks then going home? The service was good but it was a slow night. DON'T RECOMMEND. If you go, good luck getting a descent meal for your money. read more

Horrible main courses. The famous paella was bad: the lobster was raw. Very little rice. Ceviche did not have enough fish. It tasted very sweet instead of a regular ceviche. The service was terrible. I had to get the attention of the waiter several times. An international Spanish-food restaurant but playing jazz instead of Spanish music. read more

Just came from a delightful and delicious brunch at Sonora. Beautifully decorated, with wonderful Latin themed wall painting. Good and attentive service. Great ambience, great service. But the food was not so great. Their signature paella Palomino in particular was a real disappointment. It was the perfect example of what the Spanish call "arroz con cosas", not paella. The rice was bland and almost fluffy, which is *not* what you want in a paella, and lacked any noticeable "soccarat", the browned rice on the bottom of the pan, which any Spaniard will tell you is the best part of a paella. The seafood, while abundant, was nearly tasteless. Definitely not worth the $80 they charge for this dish. We also ordered a few tapas, which were definitely better than the paella but again not great. Gambas al ajillo should be swimming in that wonderful garlic scented oil for dipping in bread. Ours had almost none. Some of the other dishes (the crab croquetas in particular) were admittedly pretty good, as was dessert. But on the whole, I left disappointed. I had high hopes given all the positive reviews here. A shame especially since it was a special occasion, our 30th anniversary. read more

This food was definitely a 10/10. I have no complaints at all. The only reaon I'm not giving it a 5 star is because when I went it was dead. There was two other peoplen in the entire resturants and it was a sunday afternoon. There was no live jazz or anything. The interior very nice and they also have outdoor. I've read about this restaurant many times in the past from Westchester Magazine. I'll get right to the point. This is arguably the best restaurant I've been to in years. Period!! My wife and I went last Friday and they had a 3 course dinner menu for restaurant week. Once I saw they had the paella , I was game. For starters, I had the shrimp ceviche which I devoured in total bliss. Next, it was their seafood paella which I inhaled with their home made hot sauce which I will have again this week . For dessert, they had a cheesecake and tres leches cake which was amazing. Their sangria was also to die for in addition to their stellar hospitality and calm atmosphere. I gotta beg my wife if we can go there for Good Friday. As a Bad Catholic, I'll have their seafood paella. Oh, they also have a killer menu with amazing tapas. Our Thanksgiving dinner was cancelled due to illness and we turned to our old standby, Sonora, to come to the rescue. Once again, they did not disappoint. Omar and staff did a fantastic job. They were fast, friendly and efficient. The food was outstanding: a delicate and slightly Latino take on traditional Thanksgiving dishes. Everything was delicious and perfectly done. Our turkey meat was moist and we had so much leftovers, we'll be celebrating at home for a couple more days. I liked the chef's take on Brussel sprouts, still slightly crunchy, shredded and delicately seasoned. The surprise finalé was the pumpkin cheese cake. I would love to see this as a permanent Autumn desert option. Kudos to Sonora for saving our Thanksgiving. read more

This place looks like a private little house. The setup inside is very nice. They have low Spanish music with keeps the ambiance very relaxed. The food we tried was the Paella for two people which was $80. It was very good and not too salty like I've had in other restaurants. The only complaint I had with the dish was that it had very little rice when the dish was for two. It came with a full lobster chopped up, Mussels, clams, and shrimps. There was plenty of seafood but I felt the rice was very minimal for two people. None the less I get full fast so it was fine but I would definitely get a different dish next time. The churassco tacos appetizer was to die for, they were completely amazing and I wouldn't even had mind another set as my dish lol. The steak was cooked so perfect and was so tender, absolutely loved them. Definitely getting the churassco dinner next time. The service was excellent. Servers were very attentive and constantly cleaning our table and refilling our drink. A+. read more

We went here last night before a show at the Capitol Theater. I absolutely loved the ambiance. The service was really great! The food was really good too: guacamole, goat cheese croquettes, beet and quinoa flatbread, eggplant meatballs, and potato omelette. I love all of the vegetarian options. We were in the area last night and googled restaurants and found Sonora. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival. The decor and art are chic and interesting. The food was EXCELLENT. We had the grilled octopus, fish tacos, beef empanadas and guac. AMAZING. The service was just as excellent. Highly recommend and will def be back. read more

Someone needs to teach them how to make paella before making it a special on the menu! Where was my crispy bottom layer? Only a greasy cast iron pan. If they cant make the specials correctly, what does that mean for the other food? Slow infrequent service especially upstairs when lots of tables are open downstairs. Disappointed. read more

We went to Easter Brunch at Sonora. It was a great experience all around. Valet parking staff were quick and professional. We had a 1PM reservation. We were seated right away. The staff offered the regular menu and a Price Fixe menu. Everything was reasonably priced. The food was amazing. Wait staff was attentive and courteous. The live jazz band was very talented, and played at just the right volume. We will be back soon! read more

If you're looking for fine dining Sonora is the place to be. The ambiance is filled with upscale Latin touches and warm colors. My group sat on the outdoor patio which I definitely recommend during the spring/summer months. The menu itself has a wide variety of Latin dishes from different Latin countries (Paella, ceviche, tacos, etc). I thought that this was cool. They offer mostly tapas options so it's probably best to get items you can share with a group. I was a little disappointed in the ceviche. It was more of a soupy consistency and didn't have much seafood. The flavors were good, but for $15 it fell short in my opinion. Also, the quinoa empanadas were uniquely shaped and didn't really look appetizing. Expect to pay a pretty penny for just, in my opinion, average food. read more

This restaurant has a lot of good reviews. My experience here was quite below par. The atmosphere and service are quite good. The food is not. My brother and I ordered steak and eggs for Sunday brunch. The portion of steak was small and the texture quite chewy and unappetizing. The eggs were scrambled but not fluffy and inviting at all. Even more surprising, the meal came with multigrain toast that was soggy and not really toasted at all. All of this for the bargain price of $18.95. This is a sad situation since this place had potential to be a good spot but the chef just doesn't get it. read more

Another great visit. When I first came to Greenwich in 2008 I had dinner here my first night. Every visit since then just gets better. We went with friends last night and had a great meal. The restaurant is inviting and bustling without being loud. Service is always great as it was last night. I had the Duck Quesadilla for an entree with a side of plantains. The richness of the duck was amazing and the plantains are always great. We also had a guac for the table-great as always. I've been there twice and both times, everything was excellent and even OMG level. They provide guacamole with crudites instead of chips if you desire. Love that! The Robalo al Sartén Branzino and 2 other fish dishes on the menu and the Halibut special we had were exceptional. The decor, the music (not too loud), the service and atmosphere were all lovely. I went for brunch today for my birthday, we started with their guacamole and chips, very good! The got Challah French Toast, the presentation was good, downfall it was not cooked fully . From what I was able to eat, the taste was good. They took the meal off, and as far as the service , it was great, and I will return again for a second try! read more

Upon arrival we were greeted right away and brought to our table. The restaurant appears to be an older house turned into a restaurant . Different rooms for seating. We ordered the regular classic margarita and blood orange margarita which were delicious. We tried the following tapas: coconut shrimp, shrimp and octopus ceviche, steak empanadas and goat cheese croquetas. All of which were so good. My favorites were the croquetas and coconut shrimp. Really liked this place. It was so pretty inside! My family and I went on a Sunday for brunch and they had live jazz music. Very nice touch. Food was just the right portion and very delicious. Staff was nice and attentive to our group. What I really liked about the place is that they highlight foods from different areas of the world (Argentina, Spain, Peru and more). Perfect spot for a date. We had great apps and each ordered the Paella for dinner. I do wish the lobster was cracked more as it was a little struggle to get the meat but great presentation and instagram worthy. The sangria was perfection. The desserts were enough for 1 per person. The back patio was nice and the service was attentive but respectful. In terms of photos, the back patio could be lit a bit more (another strand of lights). They were very clean.
