Food is usually good! The salchipapas (hot dog slices and french fries) is a classic columbian appetizer like chips and guac for mexican restaurants but the waitress told us its ONLY for children now?? I think that's dumb for a restaurant but okay...the beef empanadas are good and the "calentado" plate is tasty! The restaurant isn't usually crowded and the staff is friendly. Came here after church and the food is pretty good. We ordered 10 empanadas. 4 Pollo and 4 Carne and 2 Hawaiian empanada. I ordered the Lomo soltado which was huge. The rice, steak and onions were on point. The fries just needed to be a cooked more, the food does have the spicies similar to Chinese food. The service was very quick, but after receiving the food no one asked how the food was or even refill our water. That is the reason why I brought a star down. Amazing food!!! Came here for lunch for my daughter and was not disappointed at all. All of the food is affordable already so the lunch special is out of this world!! Service was outstanding too. There was no language barrier here that I find at a lot of other restaurants in port Chester. I can't attest to authentic Colombian flavor but my grilled chicken (that I expected to be plain) was FULL of flavor! I passed by for lunch around 3pm on a Thursday and it was not packed and service was quick and polite. I ordered the special which is soup of the day ( nice portion) and it comes with rice salad and grilled steak or chicken. I have to say for $10.50 it was delicious the soup had so much flavor and it tastes homemade. I also orders the bandeja paisa to go and the portion was large and very tasty only complain was the beans didn't really ha e good floor but besides that my daughter enjoyed her food. Another one of my fav spots in the area. Very traditional Colombian feel. Love the selection of stuff their bakery offers. The dinners are also really good. What a sad story. After a long day filled with Colombian cravings I ended up here. The service is very slow, I think that is the normal pace here. Good was very sad no flavor, cheap thin meat, no avocado on dish that comes with avocado. Hot sauce game is weak here. Only good things come from the bakery side. Not bad but not great. My wife and I just got back from Colombia and were excited to try this place. Our favorite place across the street, Sun Dulce, were The ones who told us to try Makondo. I ordered the Lomo Saltado because that's honestly all that looked good to me. It was about as standard as the other half dozen places on Main Street in Port Chester that make the same dish. We also ordered empanadas. It seems like they were sitting in the front glass case all day and we're not very good. The service was below average. The waitress staff is great when dining in. I went there for takeout about 6 times and was disappointed. The lady in the front is extremely stingy with the pink sauce. She gets an attitude when you ask for another little cup. I avoid going back because of her lack of customer service and facial expressions. read more

The only good thing are the EMPANADAS. The HOSTES sees us walk in and says JUST GO TO THE TABLE WITH THE 2 MENUS I LEFT THERE FOR YOU. we sit and waited 15 MINUTES FOR SERVICE, I ordered the empanadas and they were great! I also ordered my food and IT TOOK 45 MINUTES FOR THE FOOD TO COME OUT ( I know this because the soccer game was on the second half and over by the time my food came out). THE FOOD WAS COLD AND THE MEAT WAS NOT WELL COOKED. Severely disappointed because I've gone to restaurants in the trystate area with less staff and busier croud and got better treatment, better food and quicker SERVICE. Take pride in what you serve and the SERVICE you provide! P.S. it would be nice if the management and owner would pay more attention to his patrons and not just keeping the front display case full and ask his staff to come in earlier and not at 12:05 on mother's day on a Sunday to work.
