We ate an early dinner tonight because I am recovering from hip surgery and my parents are older. We were greeted immediately and quickly seated by what turned out to be our friendly server. She took our drink orders and recommended the fried okra which we almost always get so we ordered it while everyone decided on their meals. Drinks and okra came out quickly and we placed the order. Dad ordered the sliced pork dinner, mom the chicken dinner and Johnny and I, the sliced pork sandwich meal. Our sandwiches had lots of lean tasty pork and both sides (fries and baked beans) were good. This location has consistently had good food but truly the service brings us back and tonite was no exception. It was apx 4:00 pm, we sat at a four top on the first row apx 3-4 tables down. I wish I remembered her name so I could recommend her specifically. Go to this location with confidence. The restaurant and bathrooms were also very clean. read more

I stopped by for an early dinner. Even though there were 2 parties ahead of us, we were seated quickly. Our server was so sweet and brought our drinks out right away and took our order. As you know, food orders are prepared pretty fast and come out quickly. I ordered the smoked turkey plate that comes with 2 sides and a choice of bread. I ordered the green beans, fries, and garlic bread to go with the smoked turkey. Everything tasted great. The inside of this Sonny's is fairly new. It seems renovated compared to other locations. Everything was very clean, including the restroom. There were several tvs with sports games on. The inside also has a nice walk-up to-go order counter. Overall, I had a great experience dining in. I saw there was a drive-thru at this location, so I will try that out next time I visit! read more

Sonny's has been an acceptable restaurant for many years. To me the test for a BBQ restaurant is its ribs and brisket. By that standard I can not recommend Sonny's. Every time I have been disappointed by their ribs. They were not meaty. They were very dry. I don't know if they still have a salad bar but I did enjoy that. There's adequate parking and the staff usually does a good job. read more

Walking into Sonny's it's very spacious and has been remodeled since the last time I came to this location. It looks really nice and decorated more modern. Our server greeted us quickly and got us our drinks right away. Once we placed our order we received our meal pretty fast, within about 15 mins. All the food came out hot and ready to eat. I tried the new Classic Bbq Bowl and it tasted great, it had a little bit of everything in one bowl. My Husband had the Hog Sandwich which had quite a bit of meat in it. My fav part of the sandwich was the jalapeño cheddar sausage. The kids meals were as ordered and no complaints from the kiddos which is always nice. The service was friendly/nice and food came out hot and as ordered. Will definitely find my way back to Sonny's when I'm craving some bbq. read more

Wasn't too happy with this visit and I've been coming to this location since the big deal was $3.99. Also not too happy with this most recent remodel. It's one of those look/form over function things. Stupid long booths, and way too many tables with hard chairs. Nothing welcoming about it at all. My waitress was super friendly but also super slooowwww. Lunch took over an almost frustrating hour and I was so happy to get my check and pay, I left my leftovers because I didn't want to wait for a box. I've had some good racks of ribs here over the years but today's plate of ribs, if you call it that, were dry and rubbery and cost every bit of the money for a full rack. Cold fries, heavy hard bark on ribs... waitress was nice.. the entire crew disappeared for a long period of time. leaving them with nobody to refill drinks and in one case and elderly couple in a wheelchair waiting to sit down for over 10 minutes. I had to go to the back and let them know somebody was out here to sit down. I have a long history with this location that has been very good in the past. In 2004, hurricanes Charley, Ivan, Frances, and Jeanne hit Central Florida and we had no power for two weeks. BUT, Sonny's did and we ate lunch and dinner there for 2 weeks, to soak up the AC and have delicious food! We've been fans of Sonny's ever since! The food is consistently good, they change up their menu (which is amazing because some local restaurants don't even do that) and they are fast, and an easy place to eat! It's been years since I've stepped into a Sonny's BBQ. There have been many updates to the decor as well as the menu since my last visit. There were not many people there at around 6:30 pm on a weeknight, so we didn't have to wait for a seat. Our server was super polite and attentive. We ordered the loaded tater tots as an appetizer and they were devoured in minutes. I would definitely recommend that appetizer. I had the catfish sandwich and a sweet potato. It was a great price and I was stuffed before leaving. My husband and daughter loved the pulled pork sandwiches. For the price point, it was a great meal! read more

I walk in and was seated right away. A very thin blonde waitress came and asked what drink I wanted. She returned with s sweet tea. I sat here for a while and watched several patrons come and go to the table behind me. To my surprise the waitress walked by me several times and started to take their order even tho i clearly was here before them. When she took their order she looked at me snd i gave her the im so hungry look. She finally took my order. When she returned with the food she placed the food down with a uncaring manor. The big plate was on top of the little one. She looked right at it and it was apparent she didn't even care. I ran out of garlic bread and this waitress never came to ask how was my food or anything. I usually start all my waitresses with a 10 dollar tip. It can go ip or down from there. Shell be lucky to get 2 dollars. Wow she actually never came back to my table??wow Maybe its my smile?? read more

Today, though, I noticed them selling Japanese Wagyu as: Sake Infused Dry Aged A9 Kobe Strip. This is a very scammy way of selling a product. First, meat is graded broadly on three scales - USDA (choice, prime), BMS (beef marbling scale - common in Aus), and the Japanese grading scale. (A1-A5, with most high end steaks being A4 or the gold standard, A5). https://meatnbone.com/blogs/the-clever-cleaver/meat-beef-grading-system-understanding A9 doesn't exist. A BMS 9 could be an A5. But this is mislabeled. They have also used the term A11 in their instagram account. Maybe they are confusing BMS for A-scale, or maybe they are intentionally trying to make their product seem better than competitors. Furthermore, not all Japanese Wagyu is Kobe beef. Kobe beef refers to Tajima cattle raised in Hyogo Japan. The export of this beef is highly regulated to only certain restaurants and purveyors, who will display a seal and certificate certifying the origin of the beef. It is rare, expensive, and most importantly, Bush Brothers (Local Butcher's wholesale purveyor) is not certified to sell, nor do they use in any way, the term Kobe Beef. So it is incredibly likely that this product is mislabeled. This product is likely a A5 strip loin (which Bush Bros. does carry) that has been aged. Market price would be somewhere around $175-185/lb. (An unaged cut would be around $150/lb.) When I asked for more information on the most expensive cut of meat in their shop, I was treated with disdain and a dismissive attitude. Neither member of the staff could answer my questions other than to say "It's the highest grade of Kobe beef." To charge $215 dollars for a grade that doesn't exist, for a steak that isn't from Kobe, with an aging method that seems dubious at best, is disingenuous and plays on a lack of consumer knowledge. If The Local Butcher themselves don't know the differences here, they shouldn't sell this product. If they do, they should be ashamed of themselves.
