From the moment we sat down until we left service was on point. Even with our 9 person party, she handled everything perfectly. Someone ordered the Fried Okra appetizer, I was offered some which was seasoned really good. I should have gotten some of these to go. My entree was the Chopped Beef Brisket with Green Beans and Mac N Cheese for my sides with a big slice of Garlic Bread. I had the brisket with the Sweet sauce and it was excellent. The green beans were kinda watered down as if they had been in a can and I wished there was more mac n cheese because it was soft and creamy. The best ribs are at Sonny's on SR 40. These ribs are so tender and the meat just falls off the bone. Service was fast. Our server, I think her name was Carla, was attentive and took good care of us. The restaurant looked clean and our lunch was comfortable and tastey. read more

I had Sonny's once at an outdoor party over a decade ago so I really can't compare experiences. I will say this was my first time formally. A coworker of mine was selling tickets for Sonny's for her son's school. I figured I killed 2 birds by contributing to the kiddos and finally trying Sonny's lol. We arrived around 7pm and it was very busy in the parking lot. It didn't seem too busy when we entered and no staff was at the front to greet anyone. I think they were busy bussing the tables after the dinner rush. We waited a while to be seated but the hostess was busting ass to clean tables and such. Once we were seated, we looked over the menus. Justine was our server and she was probably one of the best servers I had encountered in a really long time. Justine went over what was covered with the vouchers I had, as well as going above and beyond with helping us use everything. I heard from coworkers the egg rolls appetizer was really good so we ordered those.we ordered the pulled pork platter and the Sonny's sampler platter. The food came out at reasonable times. All the food was really good. It was better than other barbecue places in town but not the best I have had. The food was flavorful for the most part and the portions were good sizes. I had three vouchers and luckily Justine said I could use all three. I ordered another platter to go so hubs could enjoy it for lunch one day. I didn't finish my platter so I wrapped some of that to go as well. It was a good experience overall and Justine made it even better. This place is always pretty decent. This restaurant particularly out of the chain was decent. It was not overly crowded and our waitress was attentive. My dad found his pulled pork to be a little too sweet and I think my boyfriend was surprised at his small portion size but he's a bigger guy and the lunch size after a full day of activities was a tad small. Makes me scratch my head! Unfortunately I hate to not give Sonny's a great review as I am a big fan of their pulled bbq chicken. The poor rating for this review is largely due to the process, failure to follow up, and execution of the process in place for pick up. When I arrived I parked in a designated spot and called in to let them know I had arrived. I had a few visitors so I ordered a family meal in addition to another meal. After waiting about 45 minutes I called to check on the progress of our order. The gentleman said "your still here, oh no, your still here." Next thing I know he was walking outside to our car. He stated that my food was there and ready but a server failed to deliver it to my car and it was cold so he was going to have it all remade. He offered my brother and I drinks while we waited........10 minutes later he came out with everything. We had multiple meats and they were all thrown together in one styrofoam container. I was taken a back, probably because I don't eat pork and the pulled chicken and pulled pork were side by side. Gentlemen said, "oh that's how the family meals come".........really Sonny's this is the presentation you expect of your stores. As we were pulling away my brother looked at me and said "where's the Cole slaw" ‍ Strongly encourage the single service but discourage the family meal and pick up process at this location. We ordered carryout for the family (6 adults) and it was 30 minutes before they closed! They were fast and the food was delicious. The meal included 3 meat choices and 4 side items as well as garlic or cornbread. It was the perfect amount of food for 6-8 people. Definitely recommend for family takeout! read more

The staff was firing on all 8 cylinders and running like a well oiled machine. My wife had the sweet Carolina pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw and broccoli as a side. I had pulled chicken on garlic toast with a sweet potato and we both enjoyed our lunch very much. Sonny's BBQ is a very good consistent choice for your bbq palate. went to two different locations to give it a fair try. first time ordered smothered Tots with the beef brisket there was NO meat just gobs if fat!! my husband got the pork 3 ways and he said it was fine. second time I ordered the brisket sandwich lean, my husband again got the pork 3 ways. and ordered the cinnamon donut hold as an appetizer. the waitress came back and said - we don't have the donut holes and we're out of the brisket. so I chose sliced pork sandwich. the meat was sliced so thin you could read through it! if It had two bites of meat it's a lot because the rest was FAT!! my husband's pulled pork was so fatty he didn't eat it. sorry! gave you two tries - no good! read more

On Oct 12th, I placed an order for pick-up at 4:30pm from Sonny's BBQ located at 4102 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL. My order was for three pulled pork "Big Deal" sandwiches on garlic bread: one with baked beans and a Coke, one with French fries and lemonade, and one with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. 1. The pork on all the sandwiches was fatty, had hard skin, and had no smoky flavor. 2. The garlic bread was soggy and had little garlic flavor. 3. The baked beans lacked any flavor whatsoever. 4. The French fries and tater tots were old and mushy. 5. All the drinks had been sitting for some time and the ice had melted. They were so diluted they had to be thrown away. My advice is to stay clear of this location until there is a management change. read more

The ribs were chewy (as opposed melt in your mouth or at least falling off the bone). The beans were a bit too sweet and the tater tots were not particularly crispy. I guess because we were going through the drive-thru, the sauce came in small packets. We got the Smokin Sauce. It was a bit overpowering. No nuance. Didn't even finish the meal.
