Bring it down to 3 stars... (had done 4 before). Prices have gone up; portions have gone down. Long gone are the days of all-u-can-eat for a decent price. Now, for more than the old cost of all-u-could eat brisket is a single plate of meat with a portion that leaves you hungry. Fried food is often too fried, making it dark and overly crunchy. Meats have a good amount of fat; it's just what they're serving now. For a family of 4, you're going to spend well over $50 pre tip and will still want some late night snack. Service is fine. We ordered the big deal beef brisket for dinner. The sandwich literally came with 1 and a half slices of beef brisket. At lunch you get at lease 3 slices. It was a joke. My husband was like where is the meat. We had it on garlic bread, so it really did not cover the bread. You definitely need to go in to get a good meal and not order it to go. We got the pork three ways along with extra fries. Very tender moist sliced pork & pulled pork. Ribs with a dry rub.... my favorite! (Don't care for messy fingers). French fries - hot & fresh. Food was ok: pulled pork was good with the original sauce, baked sweet potato was tasty with the unexpected cinnamon butter that accompanied it, but the mac and cheese was rather gluey and not fully warm, and the corn muffin was gummy (seemed like it needed to be baked a bit longer). Beware the tile floor: I took one step from the carpeted area onto the tile and skidded badly (no evident water etc), even with my cane for stability. The ladies' room also needed some help. It was kind of surprising that they would be out of multiple things, even though new years eve had been the night before. I went with an order of chicken and ribs with a side of the corn nuggets. The ribs and chicken were good, and as always the corn nuggets were spectacular. I personally use Sonny's corn nuggets as the gold standard to measure up all other corn nuggets. Sonnys has gotten so much better when they started concentrating on BBQ again. This was several years ago right around the time they remodeled. The biggest improvement is the sides. Instead of frozen veggie sides they now serve fresh, or at least fresher. The bbq is better now with moister chicken and much better brisket. My fav is the sliced pork. Back when Sonny's was the only barbecue place without pulled pork are used to wish that they would add it to their menu. Now that they and everyone else has pulled pork I went right back to the sliced pork which is now the unique item. Go figure. It really felt like this was a completely different restaurant and not a chain of the same company. I also ordered okra and I asked them to fry it well done. Much to my dismay Not only was it not well done it was barely cooked. The presentation was sloppy, the service was slow. We walked into the restaurant and there was one gentleman waiting to be seated in front of us. We waited 10 minutes and the gentleman was still waiting to be seated and nobody acknowledged us, even though staff members looked right at us. We never saw the hostess. Last visit the ribs were so small you could hardly see them I thought it was just one particular restaurant went to another one in another city, and again the same thing the portions were reduced the size of the ribs were a joke nothing to eat on them.
