Pulled chicken sandwich plate.
Janice S.

We went to Sonny's for the first time in years. It has gone way down. The menu and quality has definitely not improved. They did away with the salad bar years ago. But, the brisket was basically inedible. Maybe they were having a bad day. The waitress was sweet enough as a person but, we almost had to explain that we would like refills. There were 4 of us. We had a burger, ribs, pulled chicken and brisket. The best thing was the pre-made corn nuggets . We probably will not be going back. It's sad to see how far it's gone down. We used to go all the time.

Sonny's BBQ -- Brandon, MS Some restaurants earn a permanent place in your rotation, and Sonny's BBQ in Brandon is one of them. This was a return visit after years away -- back when I was working in the Jackson area, Sonny's was a go-to. I'm happy to report it still delivers. We walked in on a recent Saturday to a cordial greeting and a 15-minute wait for seating -- reasonable for a weekend lunch crowd. The order was taken promptly, though the food took a bit longer than expected to arrive. Faster service would have been appreciated, but as I'll explain, the sandwich more than made up for the wait. The food is the story here. We are serious brisket people. We're talking 13-hour smokes at home for friends and family -- so we don't impress easily. We ordered the chopped brisket meal with fries, and I'll say this: it holds its own. The brisket arrived hot, tender, and with a genuine smokiness that didn't tip into overdone. That's a line a lot of BBQ joints cross. Sonny's doesn't. The portion is generous on your choice of bread, and the garlic bread is a smart touch -- it adds just the right savory contrast to the sweet. Speaking of sweet, Sonny's house BBQ sauce is, in my opinion, one of the best in the game. Bold claim, but I stand by it. The sweet tea was exactly what sweet tea should be in Mississippi -- strong, cold, and uncompromising. No notes. The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a BBQ joint: relaxed, comfortable, unpretentious. Good value for what you get. Brisket sandwich: 8/10. It satisfied a craving that had been building for years, and that's not nothing. We'll be back the next time we're passing through the area -- and honestly, it might become a reason to pass through the area. Pro tip: Go in without a time crunch. The food's worth the wait, but patience helps.

It's crazy that this place Only has three stars!!! Stopped in for lunch after a meeting, it was incredible. My coworker recommend the pulled pork, but our waitress said she liked the brisket. So I did a two meat combo with pulled pork and brisket... Both were amazing. The brisket was phenomenal, perfect smoke, excellent bark, moist, and full of flavor. My coworker recommended doing the pulled pork as a sandwich between two pieces of garlic bread... It was incredible. You can order the sandwich this way if you want. He also ordered the corn nuggets, they were addictive... I could've eaten a KFC bucket full of them. The restaurant was clean, the staff was extremely helpful. It was a five star experience.

Cherry cobbler egg rolls are amazing! I got the buffalo smoked wings and the smokey flavor is good but the buffalo is hot hot. My usual is the loaded tots with pulled pork. Staff is friendly and service is fast. I love the decor inside also

We were visiting in the area today and picked up lunch take-out from Sonny's in Brandon. Window service was friendly, but extremely slow. However, pulled pork sandwiches, fries, and slaw were good. Barbecue was a sort of a "Memphis" style with a sweet sauce. Slaw was especially good. Hopefully, we can return soon and eat in.

I found myself in Brandon, Mississippi. There wasn't too many places that would deliver to my hotel room. Therefore, I ordered from Sonny's BBQ. Here we go..... Corn nuggets I am a fanatic. When you think of corn nuggets, think of corn mixed with corn bread. The corn nuggets had a sweet taste to it. That first bite was a small piece of crunchiness heaven in my mouth. And the cornbread batter that was used was not dry at all. Brisket Easy to pull apart with your fingers, which means it's cooked right. I Drizzled it with the sizzling sweet barbecue sauce that was provided.  Barbecue  Dirty Rice Think of a mixture of Corn, andouille sausage, and rice. I didn't really care for it, but it tastes much better once I added the smokin barbecue sauce to it. Cornbread muffin Bits of corn in it. Thick and not dry. Pulled pork top with smoking barbecue sauce Pulled pork good.  Tender meat and the BBQ sauce set it off. Chicken quarter By itself it was okay. Much better when I added the sizzling BBQ sauce. I can taste the smoked flavor in the skin. Dry rib rubs I didn't like the dry rub but the ribs. It was like they just took a bunch of seasoning and mixed together in a bowl and toast it on the ribs. Very cakey. The ribs were tender and tasted much better with the sizzling sweet barbecue sauce. #GratuityAdded #brandonms #pearlms #jacksonms  #flowoodms  #bbq  #foodie #barbecue #instafood  #bbqlife #bbqlovers #grilling  #foodphotography #chicken #barbeque #foodtravel #foodtraveller  #foodblog  #JA #foodlovers #foods #travelblogger #foodtourism  #foodiesofinstagram #travelforfood #brisket #cltfoodie #ribs  #meatlover #grillen

My first time. Ordered the sampler. The chicken was pretty good. The other meats, beans, and cold slaw were all marginally adequate.

The food was good, except for the amount of time we had to wait everything should have been in the bag. Items were missing.

We had heard of Georgia Blue & staying in the hotel across the street was thee perfect excuse. Husband ordered the Seafood Linguine & I had the Pot Roast Poboy. Although the crawfish tasted like the ocean air on a blustery day - the meal itself, he devoured. Let's talk Pot Roast. The picture literally made my mouth water. I have a dental issues so I ordered the Onions, Mushrooms & Gravy OTS. (My side was Mac&Cheese.) Well, I had to call the store bc neither the gravy OR the Mac&cheese made it to our hotel. Of course I sent hubby back for the gravy but by the time I realized the Mac&cheese was missing, hubby was already eating. I opted to just call to make them aware of the missing order items. According to the manager in the phone Mac&Cheese wasn't even on the ticket yet it's printed AND CHARGED on our receipt. I decided to just try & enjoy the meal. 4 bites. FOUR. The roast was SOOOOO salty. I thought it was the gravy so I kept the sandwich for later and tried to eat it NOT THE GRAVY. It wasn't the gravy at all. I had hubby try it and he spit out the 1st bite. The salt was overpowering. Unbelievably overpowering. Our bill was $55 ish & it was the worst meal we have had here in Mississippi. The 2 star was specifically for the linguine. Besides the crawfish- perfection.

I decided to try this place with my mother after taking a red-eye flight to Jackson. We walked in…read morearound 9am on a Sunday morning and, after confirming they had pork-alternatives on the menu, waited to be seated. The place was not crowded but was doing a decent business and we only waited about a minute before being escorted to our table. The space is slightly cramped, as you have to walk single file down the aisles, especially if there are customers at the tables. Regardless, the decor is nicely done with cool copper looking A/C ductwork exposed among the black painted rafters and beams in the ceiling. I was immediately arrested by the Apple Fritter French Toast, French toast style fritters with fried apples, rum butter sauce, blueberries and powdered sugar! Both the description and the pictures on the menu were mouth-watering! But I was also torn between that and the Bourbon Street Pancakes, three house-recipe cakes topped bananas, pecans, rum butter sauce drizzle and whipped cream. Yeah, I was thinking exactly what you are thinking right now! After much indecision, I opted for the French Toast, with a side of eggs and chicken sausage. My mom ordered the Pumplin Crunch Waffle, a pumpkin infused graham cracker crunch Belgian waffle, spiced pumpkin cheesecake butter, maple pumpkin syrup and powdered sugar. I also opted to try one of their Cranberry Pomegranate Fizz Mocktail, which was iced tea, cranberry and pomegranate syrups, lime and ginger beer, with rosemary and orange peel! We were taking no calories prisoner today! After a short wait, my mocktail was brought out. It was just okay. First, the glass was completely full of ice so there was barely any drink. The syrups were a little too sweet and the ginger beer was not very prominent. As I was tasting it, our server came back to inform me that they were out of apples for my French Toast. Maybe its just me, but 9am seems kind of early to be running out of ingredients for your featured dish at a breakfast/brunch restaurant... Anyway, that dilemna settled, I reverted to my other choice and got the Bourbon Pancakes. I also asked the server to remake my mocktail with less ice, which he obliged very quickly. Our food arrived shortly thereafter and the pancakes were really good! Just the right amount of flavor and syrup. My mom's belgian waffle was also pretty good, although she wished it had been larger. The eggs and sausage were decent, but not especially memorable. Overall, it was a really enjoyable first meal back in Jackson. I would not hesitate to come again!
