I love donuts. I had not been there before, I was visiting my son and DIL and this was the closest donut shop. The selection, even on a Saturday morning, was great! Lots of frosted with sprinkles, eclairs, bear claws amazing specialty donuts, decorated with sprinkles and candy toppings. The four kids behind me were even arguing about which of them got the last three specialty donuts and who had to "settle" for the sprinkle only donut. I got a variety of plain, chocolate covered and sprinkles. And they were some of the best donuts I've ever had!! Even their coffee was great! My partner and I just popped into this spot for a late morning treat and snagged a couple of our favorites: the apple bear claw and a cinnamon twist. I forgot to snag a picture, but they were absolutely delicious - crispy interior, soft pillowy texture, and delicious icing. We also tried a cronut which was super fun. We are big donut fans, and being new to McKinney I'm super excited that we may have just found our new favorite donut spot! Sonny Donuts has a good thing going on. While they don't have a large variety of doughnuts, the ones they did have were delicious. I think they're going for the "focus on a few things" tactic instead of having +20 kinds of mediocre doughnuts, so I can appreciate that to an extent. Besides doughnuts, they have the best kolaches we've ever tasted and we've tried a few around town. Even better, the women who run the place are super friendly. You might need to repeat yourself every now and then so that they hear what you want, but they are the sweetest and the customer service alone is 5-star worthy. All things considered, it's a great place but man, if they had a bit more variety (they didn't have my favorite: apple-filled), I'd give them 5 stars and would probably be a regular customer. read more

I LOVE LOCAL DONUT SHOPS!! The ladies here are so, so nice and offer great recommendations!! The shop is small, but clean and they offer a nice variety of donuts, kolaches, donut holes, and cake donuts! My friends and I always stop by here once a week on our way to the lake since they open so early. My favorite is their spinach pastry (vegetarian). The pastry is flaky and the spinach, cheese and egg filling is so delicious! If you're eating it right away, don't forget to ask them to heat it up for you! And of course, you can never go wrong with a simple glazed donut. I never go for any other donuts except for the normal glazed donut, and theirs is delicious- so, so much better than Krispy Kreme. The staff there are always so sweet and it turns out if they don't have the donut you want, they'll make you one! They're very fairly priced, never dry, always fresh. They have a variety of glazed, cake and jelly donuts, along with kolaches and other delicious pastries. Both were freshly made, the kolache was warm and fresh out of the oven-mmmm. The donuts were clearly freshly made, some were even still warm. They literally melted in your mouth. Filled donuts are filled right in front of you with your choice of delicious filling. This place was busy on a Saturday morning and clearly popular. Service was friendly, prompt, and kind. At 8:45am they are already out of cinnamon twist. The glazed donuts are not light nor heavy, in the middle. The location isn't ideal because how traffic backs up at the light to the entrance of the store and you cannot back out until the light turns green. read more
