It's a family tradition to purchase donuts for birthday breakfast. Happy Donuts had good reviews so I set out on my mission to check them out. They had a nice selection of fresh and delicious donuts. The store was clean and met Covid/social distancing stands, which included sanitizer next to the register. An added bonus, we were given a dozen donut holes at no cost. This place is right across the street from my daughter's school so I decided to try it for the first time. The sign on the door asks that to you wear to a mask (March 2022) COVID is pretty much over so I didn't have one but they were very welcoming and told me it was okay. The two ladies were so lovely and even gave me some free donut holes with my order. The donuts are very yummy, and I love that they have fun donuts like the butterflies for my girls! They also have cake donuts that are pretty good as well. I know some CA transplants would appreciate that. I would recommend ladies use serving gloves. It's a bit unsettling to see the servers handle doughnuts with their bare hands without knowing if they're clean or not. As a best practice either use serving gloves or wash hands between each customer. read more

I LOVE this donut shop! I'm not from McKinney, Texas, but this is the ONLY donut shop I go to for donuts. They are always fresh made and taste delicious. The workers are always so happy and they work super quickly. Like they are the frontiers in the fast in fast food. I bought a hello kitty donut and it was sooo good. And I mean it obviously doesn't look exactly like hello kitty to a tee but it's fun and cute. I'm so thankful to God to be able to eat here! Such an amazing little donut hole in the wall. I would have given the place 5 stars had the young woman at the counter not made a fuss about one of the kolaches not being a part of the buy 12 and get 1 free or something like that special. By this time, I'd come in 5 weekends in a row spending about $25 per order/visit. Lady, why make a fuss about $3? I do love their jalapeño kolaches though...their donuts too honestly...and their bacon croissant...so good. I'll keep coming even though she rubbed me the wrong way with that one. I'm guessing she's not paying attention to who her regular customers are...I would not have done that as a business owner. And quite frankly, after that, I didn't go back the next weekend...it has been several weeks now. I probably would have continued to go more frequently had that not soured my "happy" lol. Sometimes there's no Kolaches available so I buy some of their cake donuts instead which are still pretty good. A lot nicer physically than most of the North Texas donut shops if you want to actually sit down and have a bite and some coffee. They even have a public restroom which most do not. Prices were OK (nowhere near as high as some of the more boutique shops like Donut Kitchen). The product was not as good as my favorite "dive" shop (Donut Town) in East McKinney though, TBH. I awoke with a craving for donuts (but not Dunkin Donuts, the real thing) and was hoping I could find somewhere delicious to satisfy my craving on a Sunday. My boyfriend has a long relationship with Happy Donuts and insisted they were the best in town -- he was not wrong. I ate a sour cream donut that could be the only thing I could eat for the rest of my life and I would be completely satisfied (and very large, I'm sure). Unhappy Donuts, now! They have the best donuts in town, BUT in the past few months, the service has been awful. I have been coming here for 10 years but in the last few months with the departure of the young blonde girl, nothing is really the same. The new Asian lady looks like the most "unhappy" person on the planet. She does not make eye contact, she does not smile and she has overcharged me twice! The donuts are too expensive to begin with, so to be overcharged is insulting. My son has made the same observation and so have several of my neighbors. I am hoping things change, soon. I am from a neighborhood business and went to them first. They told me they first would help me, but when I went to place my order they weren't interested. I will not return to the business again.
