TRIP ADVISOR: HOTEL EXPERT LEVEL-8 5 Star…read moreThe Pitt: best bar in Pittsburg, Kansas! Down home atmosphere, great sport bar food and snacks. Several beers on draft. My wife and I have enjoyed many lunches and a few late- night dinners where we entertained guests at The Pitt in downtown Pittsburg, Kansas. We are frequent visitors to Pittsburg State University, my alma mater, and to SE Kansas in general, where I grew up from age 8 on. The Pitt excels in down-home friendliness, hospitality of waitstaff [most of whom seem to be female university students]. We always enjoy chatting with them prior to ordering, and even now and then throughout our meals. There is a decent selection of cold draft beers. House salad sides are HUGE [wife and I share one, and usually take some back to our hotel]. We always try something new such as versions of their nachos or quesadillas; some are keepers, some we won't order again, but ALL ARE GOOD!

But the cheeseburger I had at White Grill is by far the best burger I've ever had in my life! I asked the cook if they added seasoning or anything to their meat and he said no, so I'm not sure why it's so good , but it was amazing. I love how they grill the onions as it's cooking on top. The bun was super soft. I can't say enough about how yummy this burger was, and the Susie Q fries were cooked to perfection. I hope to return to this area just to have a burger at White Grill!

We saw plenty of country fried pork steak images and some fried okra and both me and my husband decided to chose that. Our plate came with good smashed potatoes and gravy, and the nicest surprise was that the waitress brought us our own loaf of bread. Can't beat that! The restaurant appears like a side-road old restaurant, and while I am sure it's old and quaint, it just took me back to the 70s being a kid and eating at those bucolic small town restaurants during some road trip. While inside we noticed they had the TV on with an old show of Gunsmoke playing? It was really like a time warp. The service was good too, as we didn't have to wait long for our food either.

Love the double well drinks for $5. I ordered the famous 1106er burger and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The 1106 was an old time drive in in Pittsburg for many years. When they closed, 5th st bar got the original grill and still use it today. Our server, Victoria was the best. Attentive and helpful. My friends had the shrimp and the lasagna and they loved it. Took me a year to try 5th street but I am now a huge fan. If I have one ding, I felt for a double shot the drinks were very weak. Would like to watch the pour next time

Anything fried, whether it be onion rings, tater tots, or fried mushrooms, was always perfect. And I mean PERFECT. I don't know what the secret is, but the batter never fell off my mushrooms or was soggy in any way.
