These guys kinda suck. They cut you off mid-order and sometimes won't answer back, assuming they're paying attention to the red button. This sonic is a crap shack! They got 2 out of 4 of the drinks wrong!, and we had to scream at the speaker to get 1/2 of air order right. Did I forgot to mention that they gave us a completely flat doctor pepper! This place is terrible! They forgot to give us some limes for the drinks, so we walked up to the drive through and the inside was disgusting! There was trash all over the flor, and all of the staff were super rude! We checked our order in the drive through and realized that they did not give us our onion rings, chicken strips, drink, and popcorn chicken. We placed our order and went home. We realized when we got home that we were still shorted a cherry limeade and a French Fries. In addition, we waited in a stall for about 10 minutes to order before being advised that they were only serving via the drive-in. This place has POOR service. I waited in drive thru line for more than an hour after being told the drive up speaker was closed. When I started ordering I was informed that the ice cream machine was not working! You could at least put up a sign so customers don't waste their time!! Pros Shakes & Slushes: Sonics is known for their drinks so it's a must to order one when you're here. They're also known to have an extensive menu of drink concoctions so you can easily order what your stomach desires. The Slushes are okay since it's just crushed ice and some flavoring of your choice. I prefer their creamy shakes and I always go for the smallest size since it's overly sweetened. Waffle Sundae: To my surprise, their sundae cones are a pretty good deal. You get a gigantic waffle cone filled vanilla soft served ice cream topped with your basic sundae toppings such as hot fudge, peanuts, and a cherry on top. Service: Along with the concept of ordering and dining inside your cars, the servers rolling on their skates are really friendly and make the experience more enjoyable. Cons Food: I've gone to this Sonic several times and I have never enjoyed the food so now I've learned to play it safe and order their drinks and desserts. Foods amazing! Workers are okay lol especially through drive thru. Ordered their number 9 combo meal which is the grilled chicken sandwich on a brioche bun. It has grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise! The sandwich is pretty darn good and the chicken was juicy and fresh tasting. We also got a large order of tater tots and you can never go wrong with those! For our drink we ordered their large strawberry lemonade and that is a must get if you live strawberries! I believe it's a carbonated drink with strawberry syrup at the bottom with fresh bits of strawberries and that's a plus for Sonics because strawberries aren't on season right now.. well it's obtainable, but it's not sweet so this was a definite plus! I also got their mozzarella cheese sticks which were pretty crispy and fresh when we got them and they loaded us with marinara sauce! Definitely good read more

Is this place franchised? Wow....do the owners know or even care how run-down and dirty this place has gotten? None of the kiosks work to pay. Lights broken and covers missing. I got a corn dog, they were out of mustard and ketchup and there was a limit on napkins because they were running out. While waiting outside for our food, I saw two employees go outside to a car and bought weed, thought he was slick and nobody was watching( stupid kid) he still went back work. (BEWARE) I went in on a Thursday around 11:45 am and the first menu board was broken, and the second one the employee disconnected on me three times. I then went through the drive thru and also couldn't get anybody to respond until after 5 minutes. The guy then repeated my order wrong, and when I corrected him he snapped back with that's what I said. When I got to the window the employee continued to have a bad attitude. When I asked him why the bad attitude, he replied aggressively I don't, it's you. He stopped and tried to intimidate me with stare down. I asked for a manager, he said he was the manager. I asked for his bosses information and he said it was on the receipt. I asked for his name, he said don't worry about it. I replied, you must not like your job because I'm going to report you and he said with a smile go for it. It turns out the his name is on the receipt (AJ). I have called Sonic's corporate office three times now, with no response from the district manager or owner of this restaurant. They obviously don't care about their customers and the way their employees treat people. Once again (BEWARE)! Also got my order wrong and the bathrooms were out of order. Gilroy Sonic is usually worth the 45 min drive, today I was disappointed that only the drive through, or patio options are available. The best part about a drive in is to experience food delivery to your car . The staff there also looks very unprofessional. Park and order, and when your food is ready employees skate over to your vehicle to deliver. If you want fresh air there are tables outside and you can park in the lot. For all you youngins, Sonic's is what happened before uberEats, DoorDash, etc. came along as you have to put in 1/2 the effort. Finally after many years of seeing Sonic commercials (even though I didn't live near a Sonic), I've tried Sonic. It's adorable in a retro spaceship 1950's kind of way where the car hop delivers your meal on rollerskates and people eat in their cars. You can park in a stall, order and eat all without getting out of your car. Press the red button when you're ready to order and you can pay right there with your credit card. A car hop on rollerskates will bring you napkins, condiments and your food. It seemed really convenient but then the people next to me decided to stand there and smoke - how unappetizing and annoying. The full menu is available all day (so you can get tater tots & a sundae for breakfast, wow) and it includes floats, shakes, malts, chillers, slushes, limeade, sundaes, burgers, chicken sandwiches, fish sandwiches, Fritos chili cheese pie, salads, breakfast items, snacks like popcorn chicken, chili cheese tots (!), onion rings and more. For $1, you can add on a Jr. candy sundae or get a vanilla cone. With the meal combos, you can choose between tater tots and French fries. * XL Coney chili cheese dog ($3.29): it must have been a foot long. The hot dog was narrow and long. The dog was extremely salty and the steamed bun was very soft. I could cut through it easily with a fork. I didn't like anything about it. * Tater tots: Came in the cutest container, the tots were warm and slightly crispy. I like crunchier, hotter tots. i'd actually never been to a sonic, ever, in my entire life...until last month! and apparently, i wasn't alone, b/c my hubby had also never been to a sonic, quite surprising considering how much he loves fast food! we popped in for a quick bite before we hit the shops at the gilroy premium outlet. like all the other customers, we pulled up to a "slot" where we could order through their drive thru-like system (much like when you do the drive thru take out at mcd's or wendy's). i ordered what i thought was one of the healthiest items on their menu, the grilled chicken sandwich, minus the mayonnaise. i had actually checked their online menu and nutrition section prior to ordering and saw that this item was low in saturated fat, very high in protein, with a good amount of vitamins a, c, and iron. not bad for a fast food product! after hubby placed our orders, i went to use their restroom, which was at the very back of the building, and while walking back to our car, i saw that the dude on the rollerskates was just skating away which meant that our food was ready! very fast indeed! i opened the wrapper to find a nice size chicken breast with lettuce and tomatoes sandwiched between two pieces of whole grain ciabatta bread. it was actually not bad, a little on the salty side, but otherwise, not bad. the lettuce and tomatoes were fresh, and the chicken itself was tasty. for under $5, i really can't complain about this meal! and i really enjoyed watching the staff skate to and from customers' cars in their rollerskates, definitely reminiscent of what i've seen in 1950s tv shows and movies. read more

Eve award: best non-alcoholic cocktail, best throwback fast food service Highlights: - Lime-aid: love love love this! Lime-flavored with carbonation and lots of ice and chunks of strawberries floating around. The best non-alcoholic drink I've ever had. - Tater tots: where else can you get these around here outside of grade school lunch rooms or a frozen bag of Oreidas???? Love having this option as a side! Crispy and not soggy. :-) Add chili cheese for an extra special treat. - Frito pie: haven't had this since I was in Santa Fe and it's fun to have here. You can't go wrong with a paper boat filled with frito chips and topped with chili and cheese. - Cheesecake bites: flavor changes with the season and this time it was chocolate caramel. Warm cheesecake topped with a layer of caramel and chocolate all encrusted within Oreo type crumbles. - Service: park your car in one of the stalls, order up, and someone will bring your food to you on a tray--wearing roller skates even! Pretty cool and makes you think back to simpler times and what it was like. Lowlights: - Small isn't enough: probably due to my big American portion conditioning, but if you want more than a few bites, opt for a larger size. - No indoor dining: if you've been in your car for hours, you may want a different dining venue than that same vehicle and often it's too cold to sit outside. Love this chain and happy one is now in our relative vicinity, albeit still not super close.
