I remember Sonic. I stopped by a few down the road of life years ago and always wondered why there weren't any within 100 miles of Chicago. Would get upset when I saw their many commercials over and over again. Til one day, the Red Eye paper stated there was one opening north of the Aurora Premium Outlets and I was there during their 2nd week in operation. The burgers were just as good and greasy as I had remembered them. Try the slushies... I did ask for red slushies and I was given blue, but they were oh so good! This place is wonderful, if what you're looking for from a fast food place is inconsistency. I've been here dozens of times. Because it isn't far from where I live and they have food other then McDonald's. The food here, comes across as "fake" food or highly manufactured. So consistency is what they should have in abundance. I kick myself sometimes for choosing this place for convenience. To give you an example I went here two weeks in a row for Saturday grab and go breakfast. Both times ordered the Bacon Breakfast Toaster. First time the break was toasted great and the next it wasn't an intact it was kinda wet and cold. The eggs tasted completely different. I'd expect inconsistency at a sit down restaurant, because of different cook and that it isn't manufactured food... but this stuff is and the cooks should all be cooking stuff the same way. Also, sometimes I've had there ice cream and it tasted like a stale cigarette. Sometimes they give you a ton of toppings on a Sonic Blast and make it look so good you have to have it, and other times you go through half of the blast without tasting a single topping. They also give you attitude if you ask for a drink holder, but only half the time the other half they are nice about it. Even inconsistent in their rudeness. I mean, I know I'll still go back. Stopped at the Sonic on Randall Road and ordered online. I made a mistake by going through the drive-thru instead of one of the "bays" however it was only for two large diet Cherry Limeades. It did confuse the people at the window. When we got home, we realized our drinks had no pieces of fruit in it, no cherries, no limes and very little ice. Is it because they are made ahead or were the people at the drive in too confused? It was not busy as it was between breakfast and lunch. We love Sonic. This Sonic, however, is absolutely awful. We had to repeat our order 3 times because they kept messing up the size or flavor of our shakes. Then waited 30 minutes for them to just bring us our shakes....to have the wrong size shake. And the outside of the cups was filthy - there was whipped cream and strawberry syrup dripping and smeared all over them. The place wasn't even busy. There were 3 other cars in the parking lot and that was it. I am used to better service from Sonic. read more

As a burger fan, I followed all the press on Sonic's arrival, and I am always seeing the tv ads during Wrestling starring my Second City pals. I made a special trip out and went down for a double sonic burger with fries. It tasted to me like Wendy's and Culver's had a kid and laid him in burger King Fries. Nothing special. I LOVE sonic. Being from Texas, and having had sonic since I was a kid - It was hard to not get a Route 66 Strawberry Slushy in the middle of summer. But not no more, no ma'am.... Ok, as a Oklahoma boy who transplanted to Seattle I have missed this place more than anything in the world. Happy hour, Route 44's, foot longs, cheese tots... I could go on and on... When i moved here I was so not looking forward to it but choose the place for the cheap rent. However as soon as I found Sonic was nearby I practically flew down the road. Great service, fast and friendly, awesome food that reminds me of my late nights after the movies with the guys sitting in the car... Ah the memories... I had never been to a Sonic before and all of the summertime commercials made me want to eat here for years. My husband and I went yesterday and the food was, well, meh. I've had better burgers, fries, popcorn chicken, and chili dogs. (Okay, so we may have ordered enough food for an army.) However, the cherry limeade was pretty great and the service was fun. I heard about all the hype about Sonic so I made a few visits here. As I read the reviews, it seems like it's hit or miss. Some reviewers really liked this place and others don't. I like a good burger as much as the next person so what do I think about this place? I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't think it's BAD but does it live up to the hype? I don't think so. Now I will only speak about this location only since Sonic's are owned my independent operators. I decided to order the Super Sonic (e.g., a double cheeseburger). I kept the mayo off since places often drown a burger with it. Again, not bad but not over the top wow. I've never tried a hot dog and possibly for good reason (we have so many places that specialize in the hot dog locally so why bother). I also ordered the onion rings on one visit (pretty darn good) & the fries were so-so (disclaimer, I don't eat french fries much anymore). The whole drive-in thing was a REAL flashback. Most of them are either downstate (e.g., Champaign, Springfield, Carbondale, etc) so it took some time to get adjusted to the them. I can say this much. The staff were always friendly. The server-on-rollerskates was an interesting retro touch as well. From a service aspect, I can't say I had a negative experience. I just hope whatever issues with consistency will be addressed (based on all the reviews here, not mine alone). A very good place to grab a burger and sone ice cream. They have very good burgers, which also is complimented by French fries that are delicious. Occasionally they do put too much salt on. Wait time is under five minutes most time, at busier times it can be quite a hassle. Happy hour is a great invention and it is a bonus to go tree for an afternoon snack. read more

This was my first time at this Sonic. Everything was displeasing, except 3 positives. The carhop was nice, and had a great personality. He is a great customer service person. The grilled cheese was undercooked. Medium fries was small, but very tasty. The bathrooms were clean, BUT you have to walk outside to the side of the building. The inside chairs are noisy, and metal. It appeared that only 2 people were working then. The ice cream was over sugared,and not particularly satisfying. I would do the drive in and park instead of going inside. read more

Want some fries with that shake? Well, Ive been here twice and I havent had their fries, because they give you the option of having TOTS or FRIES, and well, the tots are so good. The wait isn't too bad if your waiting for a stall, its a little confusing as to how to get into the stall since you have to enter through the Wal-Mart parking lot, get a blue ticket, wait a bit, then get called into the stall. Once in the stall, you can take as long as you want to order, which is nice for the indecisive, then press the button and share you order with the cashier. I like that when youre all finished ordering they repeat everything back to you so you know you'll be getting the right order. Doesn't take long for the food to come too, and we tip the person bringing the food. Ive tried the coney chili dog, toaster burger and regular burger which is unexpectedly really good. They also have REALLY good drinks, and if you come during happy hour (2-4 p.m) they are half priced. I tried the ocean water, and lemon-berry slush. On way home from a show in St. Charles was a little hungry and had been thinking about hitting Sonic because I really enjoyed eating at them in Nashville years ago, and they don't have many locations around. Special item caught my eye, a hot dog with cheese and bacon on a pretzel bun. I thought I was going to get fries as i ordered a meal and chose a frozen lemonade as my drink and an order of cheese sticks. When I got to the window after a very long wait I was handed a small bag, in it the hot dog, and cheese sticks, no fries. I asked the attendant about the fries and he said he saved me money by combining my meal for me. So I got the special hot dog, cheese sticks, and frozen lemonade for just over $16, wow what a savings. Needless to say all the times I drove past this Sonic thinking I was missing something, turns out to be wishful thinking on my part.........! read more

Been here multiple times and they never fail to screw up orders. After you've repeated your order to them multiple times to Arioana, they never have all your items in the bag. And when you correct them they try to charge you for it!! And the most messed up part they never ever give you your receipt. When I talked to the manager Erin, she too try to charge us!! Stopped by this sonic for some ice cream tonight. Ordered a banana split and a banana cream pie shake. I was told they no longer carry banana splits or banana cream pie shakes. I then asked if they still had banana split shakes and they said yes so I ordered one and a simple chocolate sundae. When the cashier came to the car I got a banana shake ( even after I confirmed 3 times that it would be a banana split shake) and a Carmel sundae. When I asked why the banana shake she said they no longer carry banana split items. It took almost 30 min to get the wrong order and when I said I would not be coming back to sonic in the future the response was "Ok" I wish I could give less then one star for this establishment. Sonic is like Steak n Shake with superior produce. I love their ice as well, it's like tiny pellets that make the fountain drinks ice cold and delicious. That being said, I cannot stomach their food. I've tried a couple times, but each time I am frantically driving home in duress from the contents of my stomach. I mean, it tastes alright going down, if super greasy is what you're into, but in my experience I've been left with terrible stomach problems each and every time. I'd like to be a fan, Lord knows I watched the commercials for years yearning to try one of these unattainable burgers, however it just makes me sick to my stomach and I've finally learned my lesson. I'm struggling to come up with a good number of stars for this review, because the service here sucks, but I keep coming back for more and more. I guess I only have myself to blame?! Sonic food is just SO GOOD at being bad and greasy and delicious that I can't stop myself even if I know I'm going to be treated incredibly rudely and my order will be botched every time. Sick, right?! I have like Sonic Stockholm Syndrome. ANYWAY... I'm obsessed with breakfast food, and Sonic serves their breakfast menu ALL DAY LONG. This makes it the preferred spot to do a 3pm on a Saturday when suddenly only breakfast will do but cracking eggs seems impossibly difficult. However, this greasy, fast food delicacy does not come without a price. For one, everyone who works here is so startlingly rude. Like I've had the drive thru people start our convo with "YEAH...?" On more than one occasion. Now, I'm not trying to say I should get some sort of special treatment. I do realize its a fast food restaurant. But could you maybe not shout to me as an indication that you're ready to take my order? Anyway... It takes forever to get your food. And I've never had my order come out correctly the first time... EVER. Every single time, an entire food item is missing, it's condiment free (c'mon, ketchup is optional but you NEED ranch for cheddar peppers), or they accidentally spill an entire milkshake into your car (true story, but at least it motivated me to finally go get that spring car wash). It's at the point now where we sit and pick through the bags when we receive them, just to find what's missing and correct it before we leave. But it's so GOOD! The food is just different than typical crappy fast food (tots! Slushes! Sandwiches on toast!) that I can't help myself. I know ill be back. And I know ill order three breakfast toaster sandwiches and slip into a Sonic coma. And I know I will be SO ANGRY at the 15 year old who is serving me food apathetically and can't understand why I actually WILL wait for the diet coke I ordered and paid for and didn't receive. I have never eaten here, let alone at a drive in ever in my life (I don't know, I'm a freak I admit it) and we went after a quick trip to the outlets. It was pretty good, I must admit, for it being "fast food". The one thing I was slightly disappointed from was that the waitress did not skate out to our car. It did rain recently, and my friends were trying to link the rain to the lack of skating, but I call BS considering she did say she was just feeling lazy. I figured for never having eaten at a drive in, I wanted some entertainment. Some spins or something and some juggling of the burgers definitely would have earned an extra 1 to 2 stars. read more
