Finally had the chance to try out this nicely designed shop not too far from me. They specialize in smoked salmon and offer a variety of sandwiches, smoked salmon and tartare. I ordered the chef salmon tartare garnished with mango, avocado, shallots and it came with bagel chips. They prepared it on the spot and everything was fresh. Portions are on the smaller size for the price point but quality is great. Staff was friendly and efficient :-) If you're a smoked salmon fan or looking to purchase sushi grade fish, pass by :-)

A sorely lacking necessity if you ask me. Solomos' freshly sliced smoked salmon is heads and tails above anything you will buy in a supermarket. Previously, people in the NDG/CDN area knew that the best place to get this type of delicacy was at the Victoria fish market. I've been there a few times. It's a dark space, looks run down, and smells strongly of fish (not in a good way). I been there when the display is completely empty save for a few long deceased looking fish carcasses. The elderly man who slices the fish is notorious for his "take it or leave it" attitude and general grumpy demeanour. Enter Solomos, the relatively new smoked salmon emporium on Queen Mary road. The establishment is immaculately clean. One is immediately struck by a large refrigeration unit with glass doors behind the counter. In the fridge, I see two massive filets of salmon hanging on hooks. They specialize is pastrami smoked salmon which reminds me of the product I used to enjoy at Russ and Daughters in NYC. It's basically salmon that has undergone a smoked meat treatment. It is beyond delicious. Their regular smoked salmon is also stellar. The secret is that the fish is smoked delicately thereby retaining its natural flavour. Also, noteworthy is that each slice is perfectly marbled with white lines of fat that melt in your mouth. Naturally, this product is more expensive than whatever brand you normally purchase from the grocery store. The good news is that the quality is infinitely better. They carry fresh Montreal bagels and make their own versions of cream cheese. One of them is a whipped concoction of chives and salmon which is a revelation unto its own. Their baked bagel chips taste strongly of olive oil and oregano and are legitimately addictive. Finally, the gentlemen behind the counter are very friendly as they slice fresh salmon in front of each customer. I hope they do well in the area and stay in business for many years.

Product is great. The food is fresh and the service is a1. But getting a mini bagel sandwhich that cost me 12$ makes me kinda upset. I could of just made it myself for less of the money. In my opinion, id say give them a try they're good and friendly. :)

The salmon is to die for !!! I love this place. I've had almost everything on the menu and everything is excellent. The salmon platter has to be ordered 24h in advance. It is so worth it. Never had fresher salmon than here in Montreal.

Cream cheese w/ different flavors! All very tasty

Solomos opened quite recently and i finally walked in today to check them out. It's a spacious pleasant store. They have smoked salmon which comes as basic and spicy, smoked white fish and a creative variety of cream cheese. The cream cheese are more creative than usual. I got the one with dill and pickles which was unusually fresh. Naturally they have smoked salmon cream cheese (2 different kinds) and a forth flavor that i unfortunately dont recall. The two guys at the store were super kind and gave me samples of the smoked fish. The basic/classic salmom is nice and fresh. The smoke flavor/aroma is not as strong as the typical smoked salmon bought at a grocery store. It's notably milder and smoother. The spicy one was quite interesting. It had a richer more complicated flavor and the smoky character was more notable (still milder than a typical store bought). My fav smoked fish at the store though is their smoked white fish! That one was just perfect. The smoke flavor somehow enhanced the fish flavor and the texture was pleasantly delicate and not too dry at all - so good. Definitely going back to get one of those next time we have guests! If they had a little table at the corner of the store, some rice crackers and white wine, i would love loved to take a break here to relax after work every once in a while...

A peek into their Classic sandwich. Absolutely amazing!

They have the freshest salmon. Their pastrami smoked salmon is a must have. Their sandwiches are high quality and absolutely delicious (we had the Classic and The New Yorker) . Great business overall and super friendly staff.

Before cooking these amazing, flavorful, fresh pieces of salmon. Left ones lemon, Greek olive oil. Right ones are ginger sesame. A hit!

This really is a gorgeous little market in the Monkland Village…read more They used to be on the other side of the street a few years back in a basement shop but they expanded to make this beautiful store. It's still a little small - there are ALWAYS people in there, but you'll be happy you went. The butcher shop in the back has AMAZING meat, the fresh produce is great, the baked goods are beautiful. A little more expensive than shopping at the grocery store but totally worth the few dollars more because you're getting what you pay for.

**Update August 2026** It's been a few years since I've…read morereviewed this bougie food store, and my mother and I have now been here at least 15 times, usually to get a quiche. I must say, their selection of quiches is wonderful, and they are all amazingly good. We usually also find niche foods, and I always get a gourmet fine chocolate bar for my neighbors back home in Vancouver, too (my neighbors are chocolate connoisseurs of sorts, so it's not as if I can get them an Oh Henry bar lol). In the past, I've also gotten many a bottle of Gibby's salad dressing here. (I love how this store sells condiments from local well-known restaurants, like Gibby's, Joe Beef, Mandy's, etc. It's a great place to get food gifts from Montreal). Yesterday I was in the area and popped in to get a few bottles of said salad dressing but I couldn't find it anywhere. I asked a lady who was working there, in the aisles, where this item was located, and she looked at me as if I was from Mars, asking me in French if I spoke French. She clearly did not speak or understand English and my French is sorely lacking. I was able to convey "salad" and "Gibby's",but I don't know how to say "salad dressing". She totally shrugged me off and went back to her work, as if I was a bothersome but ignorable annoyance. I have to admit, this rubbed me the wrong way. I've lived in the USA and in Vancouver now for so many years, I'm sorry if my French isn't great, but I'm trying. If I'm a paying customer at a store and I'm trying, but you don't understand me, it'd be common courtesy - not to mention good business sense - for you to get a fellow employee who DOES understand English. This interaction reminded me of past experiences here when the cashier was aloof (at best). Maybe the employees are like this with ALL English-speaking customers? I don't know. For me, though, I see a pattern. If you are visiting from out of town, and/or if you don't speak French well, I think I'd advise you to skip this store, despite the wonderful gourmet foods they have here. You sure won't get a feel for warm "Montreal hospitality" here, that's for sure. Oh, and they no longer carry Gibby's salad dressings, too - at least, I don't think they do.

If Whole Foods and ikea had a baby, this might be it! It's a lovely shop that's super compact in terms of so much frozen goodies stored on each aisle. We took a quick look through, and we saw a few things we might end up trying like the truffle raviolis and frozen pizzas of various flavors. Their prices were a bit steep for me like $15-20 for frozen pasta is crazy to me (I'm a simple Walmart gal, $5 value packs plz). So if I'm splurging, it should be amazeballs. In the end we just got 2 ice cream Mochis: salted caramel and litchi. My husband LOVED the litchi gobbling it down frozen and all in 2 bites. I had a nibble and most of the salted caramel. And it's alright... to be honest I just have high expectations because I love Mochi so much and have been spoiled by having fugetsu-do for so much of my life. The Mochi is very thin, and we probably should have let it thaw more. The flavor of litchi was nice, fragrant, flowery. The salted caramel left me scratching my head like why is there the flavor of big red cinnamon gum?? We'll eventually try the frozen merch but for now it's a cute lil shop and we're amazed and glad it's survived this covidpocalypse. Service is friendly, and they take covid seriously with asking ppl to use sanitizer and to wait for less ppl to be in the store at a time. All in all... to be continued!

For a Taste of Europe…read more.. Cool and Simple is a grocery store for people on the run. They carry all sorts of IMPORTED frozen goods, from spendy wagyu beef to pillowy mushroom gnocchi to wonderful ice cream (try the salted caramel with a drizzle of raspberry coulis!!!). They don't only do dinners, no; you can also get frozen croissants (or baguettes) that bake up verrry nicely in the oven. You want points with your sweetie, because fresh baked croissants for breakfast is how you make points with your sweetie! Staff are consistently friendly albeit it sometimes shy about speaking English.
