Located at the Atwater Market, Première Moisson is a chain of bakeries that's pretty much a staple in the area. We did visit one on our last trip to Montreal and found ourselves at another one on this trip. Première Moisson has a variety of goods from actual food like sandwiches, frozen pastries to cook at home, pre made pastries, cakes, breads and even chocolates. This place also sold teas and other items. There is a seating area on the first floor below the ordering area. For cakes, bread and pastries, you have to grab a number so pick one on the side wall and listen carefully! We grabbed a king cake as well as a couple other cakes. We've only had a chance to try the king cake and unfortunately though crisp and warm, the filling was a bit too sweet for me. Still good but sweeter than other spots. Still a good spot for a variety of items to choose from.

A grilled cheese with ham, mixed salad with kale (2) and a Mediterranean sandwich. Mille Feuille with cream & custard (yummy)!!!

Nice little spot at the south end of the second floor of the Atwater Market. You can have a selection of salad/dessert and entree (sandwich or quiche) and drink. On nice days you can sit outside or you can find a seat at a small table inside the establishment (of one is available). Everything is fresh and made on the premises.

Located on the 2nd Fl. of the Marché Atwater, Première Moisson is a bakery chain and looks like they bake 'round the clock. This is literally bread central with seriously PACKED shelves and glass counters filled with pastries and cakes. There are also pre-made+pre-wrapped sandwiches, beverage options, hot cocoa (not my favorite), etc. But whatever your diet needs are, you're bound to find it and customize it. Our other 3 Montréal visits, we've been making it a point to grab a bite after the 5+hr drive from home and stock up on a few things before heading to our hotel. Atmosphere is super chill and even during our Dec. 2019 holiday visit, it wasn't crowded at all. If you don't speak French, don't worry, employees all speak Eng. With a place that has made their mark in all things 'bread', I just can't see these folks making their bread and other baked items elsewhere. So no.... this isn't just a Bakery- Moisson is like a treasure trove. And let's face it, who doesn't love freshly-made bread or a sweet treat...especially when you can almost find under one roof?

We stayed nearby for a week and came here three times to get goodies. The croissant's and pastries are excellent as are the breads. Good coffee too. Would be nice of they had small jams and honey jars for your croissant.

Boulangerie Premiere Moisson at Marche Atwater is the first stop for our Montreal trip and it is definitely a good place to start. So glad that it is open at 7 am on a Sunday. I am hungry and ready to eat!!!!!!! The smell of baked goods just filled the air when I walked in... and that smell of sweet butter......... something worth all these calories. I am glad I didn't watch or the croissants has no nutrition labels... because I might be eating that with guilt thinking how many hours I have to spend to walk those off. Their espresso drinks are Meh... unless you prefer your drink really creamy and milky... my friend who doesn't like coffee much enjoyed her latte... I should start giving her froth milk to drink from now on. I am happy after packing in all these sugar and carbs and ready to brave the cold crisp Montreal's morning....

This location is inside the Marche Atwater or Atwater Market! I honestly believe this is the BEST croissant that I have ever eaten! I opted for the raspberry with pistachio nuts...so buttery, soft, and delicious! There were so many options for pastries that it was hard to choose "just one" for breakfast. There was a long line to purchase bread and pastries, but it moved along quickly. The woman who waited on us wrapped up our pastries in a box with a ribbon even though we were going to eat in the main area where there is seating in the market. Apparently there is a separate area/line to purchase coffee beverages-but since we did not know this-the attendant kindly went over to the other side to place our coffee order and rang it up with the pastries...typical Canadian...SUPER POLITE, FRIENDLY and KIND!! Au-Canada!!!! Merci beaucoup! I also purchased their locally made trinity of jams: Apricot Strawberry-Rhubarb and Blueberry Apparently this is one of many franchised chains in Montreal.... I loved the specially designed boules with the cat and bats for Halloween! A+ for creativity!

We arrived at Marche Atwater soon after it opened. The parking lot was pretty empty and the booths were just opening up. Boulangerie Premiere Moisson was in the process of filling the display cases with cookies, pastries, cakes, and breads. Shop owners and workers were stopping at Boulangerie Premiere Moisson to get their morning coffee and breakfast. We noticed that nearly everybody was getting a baguette with cheese. Later we learned that it was a toasted baguette with butter and Swiss Cheese. We wanted what everyone else had. There must be a reason why they were ordering it for breakfast. It did not disappoint. The simplicity and wholesome goodness of the cheese and baguette was a perfect way to start our day. M liked it so much that she sought that same delicacy at other cafes and bakeries around Montreal and declared that none were as good as what we procured from Boulangerie Premiere Moisson! I also got some macarons. They weren't in the case yet and the girl had to go downstairs to get them. They were absolutely fresh and the most splendid macarons I have ever had in my life. They were soft and almost crumbly. The flavors exploded in our mouths and squished between our eager teeth. What's even better was that these macarons were not only more wonderful but they were also less expensive than those I've enjoyed at home in Chicago! We returned to Boulangerie Premiere Moisson three times in two days because we loved it so much. Just saying.

Our breakfast go to in Montreal.........Their baked good are sublime, jams and preserves outstanding, salads and pates first rate and being attached to Marche Atwater, a fine place to fuel up before exploring every butcher, sausage maker, cheese shop, chocolatier, green grocer and prepared food vendor..... Park in the back and side lots for a free hour instead of feeding the meters in front and check out the excellent large concept SAQ across the street for all your wine and liquor needs.

Turkey on focaccia, and salmon on flax multigrain! Yummy.

What a lovely bakery, it has always been a favourite of mine. I am so happy to see that everyone else here thinks so, too. They open early and start the day with a hypnotizing, trailing, smell of baked goods. Their sandwiches are made fresh and taste delicious, they serve great salads too. I have never tried their actual cooked food or pâté, but people seem to enjoy it. I usually go for breakfast or brunch and then take a walk along the Lachine Canal or stroll through the Atwater Market. So much to do, so much to see, so much to taste...

Cheesecake is my favorite! Not too sweet and you can still taste the cheese. Go early before the good pastries are sold out. Mille feuille was sold out and it's my fAvorite :(

Very impressive cake and Chai latte! As fate would have it, the orange jam was a little bit sour, which perfectly matches with the taste of pistachio and walnuts. #tasteofhappiness

Boulangerie Premiere Moisson is a bakery chain in Montreal with fresh bread and bakery. My friend and I arrived early on a Sunday morning when most of the shops in Atwater Market were opening. It was a great way to avoid the crowds and actually get a table to enjoy our breakfast. A local noticed that we were not aware of the ticketing system and gave us his ticket number (thank you, now we're customer #34 of the day). We enjoyed our coffee, eclair, croissant, and a small pistachio cake. Of course, I enthusiastically ordered way too much food and had to take the eclair to-go. The pastry section was packed at this point but the girl at the register for the bread helped me box my eclair. It was a great start to my first morning at Montreal! The people I met in this bakery were so lovely!

My BF and I were exploring…read moreOld Montreal and needed a lunch spot, so a quick Yelp search helped us find Smoking Meat. We ordered the smoked meat trio and the poutine with smoked meat. The smoked meat trio includes a sandwich, cole slaw, and water. I've never had Canadian smoked meat before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought it would be a lot smokier, but I'm glad it wasn't. It reminded me of NYC corned beef sammies. The poutine with the smoked meat was also great. This was definitely enough food for two people, especially since the poutine is so heavy. We actually thought we ordered the smoked meat plate, which includes all of the items from the trio, plus a pickle and more french fries. When we asked them about it, we realized that we probably just ordered the wrong thing. However, they brought us out some extra fries (which we definitely didn't need), but it was really nice of them to do so. It was a nice textural change from the gravy-soaked fries we had been eating. Overall, it was a great meal - but definitely not something that I could eat that often.

The smoked meat was salty, oily and expensive, the poutine wasn't the best either. Such a small portion that was expensive, probably because it was in a tourist area. Don't think I'd eat here again unless I can't get out of the older montreal area because there's other places much less oily and more reasonable.

On the outside, this place might look like a tourist trap, but locals and families coming here…read moresince 1954 will tell you there's a reason it's called the King of Smoked Meat! It's a family-owned institution that serves up warmth, tradition and is famous for pizza, smoked meat, seafood, grilled meats, salads, desserts, cheesecake, and more. Open late when most other places are closed, it's an unpretentious diner where my friends and I were glad to share some laughs, jokes with the waitstaff, and good food. We couldn't decide on what to order, so we defaulted to a poutine and a smoked meat platter with extra coleslaw. It felt like being in one of those late night diners with a large menu with lots of choices. The poutine didn't make the honour roll; it didn't fail, but I'd say it was decent and it passed. The smoked meat coming in as the valedictorian was not surprising since it's the namesake of the place. My friends prefer their smoked meat with a little bit of melt-in-your-mouth fat whereas I prefer it lean. Our waitress was kind enough to put both buttery, fatty and lean pieces on the platter so we were all happy. There was mustard ready to go at our booth table, we were ready to slather it on the rye bread. The smoked meat was warm, tender, tasty and delicious! The coleslaw also was good too with a good amount of sourness and garlic flavour. It's an alternative to Lester's, Snowdon Deli, or Schwartz's. I'd definitely return for the cozy ambiance and smoked meat.

Great smoked meat sandwich!…read more Honestly my first thought was to compare this sandwich to the many pastrami sandwiches I've had in NYC but that would be comparing apples to oranges. Even Schwartz will tell you it's not the same product although it is very similar. Both institutions cure, spice, smoke and steam the meat but that's where the similarities end. Although I don't know for sure, I've heard the cut of meat is different. Katz uses a naval cut, which is noticeably fattier and juicy. Schwartz's smoked meat doesn't lack in fattiness but it's far less fatty and juicy. Another fact on the first bite is -the flavor. Katz's flavor profile on the pastrami is a knockout punch while Schwartz delivers a jab. Schwartz's smoked meat delivers a different flavor profile all together. That's not to say Schwartz isn't great because it's half the price on Katz essentially and you don't have to tip your slicer here. That's not to say Schwartz doesn't bring their own brand of chaos. On my way out the slicer shouted he'd serve no one until the line was straightened out to his liking. LOL. It's all good though, that line was a mess and Sometimes tourists need a stern talking to. I'd get in a straight line for sure for this sandwich! I got my sandwich from the takeout next door versus waiting for table service. The line was 20 deep at 3pm and I just didn't have the patience on a drizzling afternoon. I'd revisit for another one of these smoked meat sandwiches.

Their smoked meat sandwich is next level. And while I only had a few places of comparison in Montreal, it was bar none the best smoked meat in Montreal. I dare say they are the Katz's of Montreal. I gotta say, it was a bit of a trek to get here. My wife dropped me off and drove around while I went to get my order. Let me just say, going at 10pm on a Monday night probably played in my favor. Still being that late on a Monday in March, this place was still busy. I could have gotten a table if I was dining in, but that was not my plan. I ran in to grab some take out, and I have to say, in the time it took me to turn around and pay for my sandwich, my sandwich was all ready to go. The anticipation built as we drove back to hotel with my smoked meat sandwich. When I opened it up, I can't say I was overwhelmed by the size of it, but after that first bite, I was hooked. This was the best bite I had on my whole trip, and I am now cursing myself for only getting one sandwich. We almost went back the next morning, but we had to be on the road, so alas, this one sandwich was all we got. OVERALL - if you don't go, it is truly your loss. I would probably try the poutine with the smoked meats on a return trip, to get the full, Montreal experience. CELEBRITY RATING - Ryan Gosling
