And we shared them half and half. Porcetta was full of moist delicious pork, with just enough fat to bring that deep flavour. I don't have a reference points for grocery prices in Montreal so can't comment on the upcharge here. The cooked items and cappuccino is OK. I give it one star for the decor of the restaurant…read more My review applies strictly to their brunch. Went there on a Saturday to try their brunch as the reviews seem pretty good. Walked in and the decor was lovely. Small little terrace so you can get some sun. Sat on one of those high tables. Looked at the brunch menu and to my surprise, there was nothing with meat in it...only carbs, fruits, eggs and smoked salmon. Got my plate and the first thing I noticed is the brown avocados...really didn't look appetizing and they were still pretty unripped (hard). Presentation was shit and the food tasted at best edible. Really they didn't cook anything. It was toast bread, slices on bought smoked salmon and cut fruits. Pricing is also expensive for what they serve. Good thing we ordered a basked of pastries which was pretty good. Tried to get our waitress's attention so we can get the bill but she would never look at us. She went to see all the other tables but not ours. All that being said, food is crap, service is shit and overpriced. You can pretty much go to any other place and would be better than here..:even McDonalds. Don't recommend!

The breads here are to die for; every kind imaginable, and then some.(They had a huge, large soft loaf in the shape of a pretzel with tons of slices of Kalamata olives in it. OMG). The pastries are bloody amazing: tarts, croissants, danishes, muffins, cookies, pies, whole cakes, slices of cakes - you name it. All absolutely gorgeous. There's gourmet chocolates and confections, beautifully wrapped (i.e., bite-size meringues in various flavors, Turkish delight cubes, truffles, marzipan figures, and more). And lots of lovely local gourmet jams and spreads and other condiments. At the back there are salads and sandwiches and lunch-time fare. (The lobster roll looked incredible!). This place is dangerous. That's all I can say.

Make sure to go early to get the almond croissants or baguettes cause they definitely sell out (happened to me).

We survived off of them during a very long day at the grand prix. Once we realized we could bring in food, we immediately decided on bringing in a bag of them. We also got the yogurt, strawberries, and sliced toasted almonds. It was a runnier style yogurt that I really enjoyed. Everything complemented each other. Everyone there was super nice. There was construction going on when we went, making it a little hard to get to the entrance, but once we figured it out, it was a breeze. We also got their Italian sandwich to go. And just wow. Their baguettes are to die for. Everything about that sandwich was perfect. For $2 CAD more, you can add extra meat, which I highly recommend. Inside, there's a large shared table with 6-8 seats and a counter with another 5-6 spots. It's casual but convenient for a quick bite. On my first visit, I tried the grilled pork and found the meat portion very thin, so the second time I ordered extra meat, which made a big difference. The sandwiches are served in classic style with house-made mayo, pickled carrots and daikon, jalapeños, and cucumber. I also tried the BBQ pork option, but it turned out to be more like deli-style sandwich meat, not the char siu BBQ pork I was hoping for--so I wouldn't order that again. Other options include beef, meatball, and shredded chicken. The menu is written in Vietnamese, French, and English. The staff preparing the sandwiches may not be fluent in English, but they understand enough that you can point, and the staff at the register do speak English. Pro tip: if you're dining in and want your sandwich toasted, ask while they're making it--before it's wrapped--and they'll toast it for free. If you're already visiting Jean-Talon Market, this is a fantastic stop for an authentic, affordable bánh mì.
