Apparently this area is considered the unofficial Little Saigon next to the Jean-Talon Market, and we'd read good reviews about their bánh mì. Since I'm a big bánh mì fan, we had to give it a try even in Montreal! I ordered the siu mai bánh mì, which I believe was about $7. Service was quick, but the protein portion was really lacking. I had also asked for no cilantro, but it was added anyway, so I ended up picking it out myself. The sandwich came with the usual marinated carrots, daikon, and cucumber. Instead of soy sauce, they used hoisin sauce. Bread was crispy and be sure to ask them to toast it. Overall, it was okay for the price. Next time, I'd probably pay a couple of extra dollars for more meat. There are also some pre-made Vietnamese food and drinks. Essentially it's like a small grocery store with a cafe plus 2 tables.

Crazy busy viet market serving yummy viet food. We tried out their Banh Mi, bread was a bit hard for us but it was very tasty. Also got the Bun Rieu (husband approved) and the Banh Canh which was thick rice vermicelli noodles instead of Banh canh but the broth and everything was delicious. Iced Vietnamese coffee was also on point. There's only one large table (fits 8) and some counter seating (probably 4-5 seats). And the rest is the market and where people line up to order. They're very friendly here and service is quick and efficient.

Opened in 2006, this small market on Rue St Denis, just before it meets rue Jean Talon has had excellent reviews on their food, especially their Bahn Mi sandwich. I went for lunch and ordered a Bacon Bahn Mi, which I asked to be warmed up. The sandwich was a good size, so I please asked them to cut in half. There's no place to eat inside, you have to take your food somewhere..so I went to Marche Jean Talon and had my sandwich there. I could taste all the fresh ingredients that the sandwich had, especially the cilantro and the tiny pepper pieces. The sandwich was very bready, but that is the way they are supposed to be. CAD$7 net for this large creation. It was a good tasting experience, so if you like Bahn Mi sandwiches, stop by.

So glad to be in Montreal , really a foodie Mecca center. I grew up in Montreal so every time I visit any of these familiar places, it bring back fond memories of my childhood. I now live in the United States, and going back and eating some of my favorite foods bring back such good memories. There are many Banh mi shops all over the city and this is one that we tried near our Airbnb. I thought the bread baguette was a little stale and it would have been much better if put in the oven to warm it up. I always get the regular cold cut and thought the taste was fine but nothing stands out. Their regular cold cuts was priced at $7 . Their pate chaud ( meat filled small pie) was tasty especially after warming it up in an oven . The crust was flaky and the whole pie was a decent couple of bites. The shrimp spring roll was ok ; I thought the the rice paper was a little thick and the accompanied sauce was watery and not like the usual consistency. I gave it one extra star for the ease of payment , accepted US Apple Pay and credit cards.

We stopped by Marche Hung Phat to try out their Banh Mi after visiting Jean-Talon Market. There is always room for good food! There was a short line but it moved quite fast. Everyone was ordering Banh Mi to go and so did we! For $4 a nice Vietnamese sandwich is a good deal. The thing I enjoyed the most was the bun with crusty exterior and soft and moist interior.Love the pickled carrot and daikon toppings. Extra Thai chili please! I am not sure if Marche Hung Phat serves the best Banh Mi in Montreal but I can tell you that the one I had was excellent. Skip the Vietnamese Cold Coffee though.. it was meh....

Great B2 banh mi was delicious, 6$ tax included. Plenty of selection for your banh mi cravings, desert, cold dishes, all affordable.

On the quest for the best banh mi in montreal. This place was pretty good. Bread was better and Much fresher than other places I've been to but I still find they can add more stuffing in the sandwich- why are they always so skimpy ?They definitely have better sauces and their house mayo is great. I also tried the beef soup and enjoyed it - nice taste and spice. Their Iced milk coffee was delicious and would go back for this. I tried the rice cakes with porc and mushroom because I like to try different things but I didn't particularly enjoy this.

Updating this because it's been years and I'm vegetarian now and the banh mi here keep us fed and healthy and happy and wise. They are affordable, fresh and fluffy and crazy delicious. The tofu mushroom is filling and juicy and the fresh pickled veg are so good I want to put them on everything. And they sell them here in mason jars so I can! I also like be the smiling friendly helpful staff here, and the iced Vietnamese coffee is everything good in the world in a cup.

Look at em poppin dem fillings in so fast!

Definitely one of the places I miss most about the JTM neighborhood! My favorite is the beef lemongrass with a Vietnamese iced coffee. I keep meaning to try their bun buh wei because all the Vietnamese people seem to go their to have their noodles. Their sticky rice is also very good. It's also a great snack to bring to the movie theaters :P (especially if someone is blocking your view).

The selection of menu was incredibly special. The offering is Northern Vietnamese food and these special dishes are really hard to find at any different Vietnamese restaurant. Bun Cha Ha Noi - is also called Obama noodle because President Obama had it when he was in Vietnam. Besides the grilled pork, the hardest thing in my opinion is the sauce, which was good here. The only that bothered me is how small the portion is. We had to order extra meat for my daughter. Bun Dau Mam Tom - I have high expectation for a very authentic Vietnamese disk so I was not impressed with their Bun Dau Mam Tom. It normally comes with pork intestine. Where is my pork intestine? Haha Again the portion is also very small. Nem be which is similar to spring roll was also something we called at the end when everyone was still hungry. In my opinion, it is a bit expensive for the food and the portions are small.

Whatever it was Pho Saigon Viet-Nam served me up the best Satay Beef Pho I ever tasted. I started my lunch meal with spring rolls ($5,00). They were good but not the best spring rolls I ever had. The roll I thought was a bit chewy. Next came the Satay Beef ($12) which totally flavored the Pho. It was the best Pho I ever had but mind you I am no expert. They have a strange business model in that a small bowl is $11 and a large bowl is $12. It came out piping hot. I had to let it sit, as well as, blow on the broth to cool it down. The staff was tri-lingual. Imagine that! The food came out quick. It seems a lot of locals dine here. The restaurant is located in Chinatown. The street entrance is below ground level. The restaurant is somewhat dated and upkeep could be improved. The food is a 5 STAR in my opinion.

But briefly, we got a spring roll (I think it was the sprimp and chicken), a chicken dish (I think we got the half chicken), a pho dish and the grilled chicken and shrimp with salad and vermicelli. The spring rolls were good. Very crunchy wrapping, mixed with a fusion of veges, protein and vermicelli. The half chicken was my least favorite dish. I think it's an acquired taste, but the meat was tough to chew and the sauce was a quite tart. Combining all the factors mentioned above, it was a bit difficult to eat. The pho was good. The soup brough was warm, hearty and filling. The noodles were good too - very soft and easy to eat. The vermicelli dish was also good. Very standard protein and vege vermicelli dish. The chicken was tender and shrimp was grilled to perfection. Not a bad choice for Vietnamese cuisine in Montreal.
