A popular gnocchi spot with one specialty and under $10. This spot is cash only. I got the gnocchi spicy. While it did have a nice kick to it and the gnocchi was tender, I thought it lacked flavor outside of the spice but it got me full enough to last me until dinner.

Right next door to fairmont bagel and it smelled so good. There was randomly a line at 4pm so we got in line as well. The gnocchi was really soft and felt a little overcooked. However, the sauce was delicious.

I was so impressed by Drogheria Fine! Located in the hip area of Mile End, they have such an amazing Gnocchi deal and I ended up eating here for lunch! For $6.25, I was able to be so full and the gnocchi was delicious and generous! They accept Canadian debit card or Cash so be prepared to have some if your traveling from abroad. The owners of this place are also really kind and food was delicious!

Don't let the long line deter you! The line actually moves very quickly. The portions are great for the price. One order is enough to share if you want to try other foods around the neighborhood. My husband and I came here several years ago and we knew we had to come back when visiting Montreal again. Overall a great value and nice quick warm treat.

This is take out only spot that serves gnocchi. They are famous on social media. It's $5 and tax is included - cash only. You can add extra for cheese or to make it spicy. The gnocchi is cooked perfectly but I found the sauce to be too sour / acidic. However, for the generous portion and price, you can't really complain. The line may be long, but it moves fast.

Fresh Gnocchi Portion at Drogheria Fine - Only $5 Canadian

Heard about Drogheria Fine's gnocchi, so decided to check it out. It's a great cheap eats (at only $5 Canadian for a portion) made freshly, plus ordered and served through the window. Quickly served in what could be described as a Chinese takeout container with the option for chopsticks to eat, you'll find sidewalk seats adjacent to enjoy your order. Selected Drogeheria Fine's own tomato sauce, which I found sweet like Chef Boyardee Spaghetti-Os, taking the experience down a notch. The gnocchi, however, was amazingly soft small pillows of pasta, which I really enjoyed. It was topped with a healthy portion of cheese. Next time, I'll opt for Drogheria Fine's spicier sauce option and stick to whatever non-chopstick utensils may be available (i.e. a fork or spoon) to simplify the eating experience.

Amazing gnocchi that is so delicious, it melts in your mouth. It's the only thing on the menu. You can get it spicy and cheese, served in a Chinese to-go-box with chopsticks. The server is so friendly and happy. The smart locals bring their own containers and take it home. Worth a visit, even sitting on the benches.

A friend had told us this spot was a must-try, so we decided to join the queue when we were in the area for some bagels. The line was much shorter than the bagel shops, so we were pumped. We noticed the big sign on the sidewalk with the menu consisting of very minimal gnocchi options: cheese and extra cheese. It costs 50 cents to make it spicy. We decided to just get the regular cheese option for a very affordable price of $5. Drogheria Fine is takeout only, and they don't accept credit cards. But, if you want extra forks, they have silverware for you to borrow (super cute). The gnocchi comes in adorable little takeout containers, which makes it easier to hold and eat on the sidewalk. I must say that I'm usually not a big fan of gnocchi, but a few extremely great experiences made me like the food more. I was expecting to enjoy the gnocchi here, especially because of how saucy and mouthwatering it looked. However, the flavor is a little bland and the texture isn't quite how I like it. I will say that it's a little better than some other places I've been to, and I was able to eat at least half of the container with my partner. The friends I was with wouldn't touch it after one bite.

This place was not on our radar, but we saw the long line and good reviews online so we're like hey why not. So glad we only bought one box of gnocchi to share. Don't get the hype here, the taste is bland and the gnocchi was a bit soggy actually. What gives? The 3 of us couldn't even finished half of it and had to toss it out. Cash only. Btw, when they say free "baguette" it means chopsticks in French since they serve it in a Chinese take out box lol

This is one of those spots that I feel is definitely worth the hype. Only one thing on the menu and they make it well. The gnocchi is soft and pillowy and the sauce is great. I would recommend adding the cheese and pepper.

Great location for a cheap eat. The gnocchi starts at $5 a box, and has add ons such as cheese and chilli flakes for extra. There is a good amount for the price you pay, and I would recommend for a quick and easy meal.

Such a cute delicious experience. Literally a hole in a glass wall, this small shop sells one thing but does it amazingly well, gnocchi in tomato sauce. The gnocchi is neither too hard or too soft but made to succulent perfection in a "imported from Italy ripe tomato" sauce. Orders are made and delivered quickly with pleasant service. Full plates are under $5. This place is simple, delicious, and a find.

THE best meal in all of Montréal. There's something about $5 gnocchi in a chinese takeout container that is just so good. I came on a weekday during lunch and while there was a line, it moved quickly. While Drogheria isn't a proper restaurant, there are benches outside for you to eat on. Pro tip; grab a bagel from Fairmont next door to dip in your leftover sauce from the gnocchi!

Very good gnocchi and it's also very cheap (5$ a box). Quick heads up they only take cash or debit.

I think this is the gnocchi soup kitchen. Just soup $5 or $6. Long lines. Too much for one meal. A highlight

I would occasionally go there for their imported cookies (oh how I adored Anna's Almond Swedish Thins, lol) and exotic teas. And also for their cheeses and deli meats. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I love the smell of coffee and they have a good selection of coffee beans and a huge coffee grinder. The store has a very European feel to it, and very high prices. However, they carry products that are difficult to find elsewhere. Every time I go back to Montreal I like to pop in and poke around ;) My last visit was shortly before the Pandemic started. Looking forward to going back once this Pandemic is over.

Okay. When it comes to cities with great culinary traditions, somewhere in the back there…read morenaturally lies a bunch of places to promote, vend and educate on cuisine. Take New York for instance - if you want to know what we eat and how we came to eat them, you hit our bunch of ethnic markets and grab some finger foods. Wanna know how the Greek do their stuff? Hit Titan or Parrot Foods. Syrian? Sahadi or Souk el Shater. Chinese? Flushing. Korean? Same. Jewish style? Barney Greengrass and Avenue J in Brooklyn. In short, if you want something and is willing to travel the 5 boroughs and beyond, you'll be able to find it. When it comes to Montreal? You hit the Main. The Main is basically Boulevard St. Laurent between Sherbrooke and Jean-Talon, and the diversity of places informs you of its richeness of flavors. Want Hungarian and Askenazi jewish? Start at the Sherbrooke end. Portuguese? That's around Rue Rachel. Something more hipster friendly? That's St. Viateurs. How about Italian? That's closer to Marche Jean Talon. Interspersed between that range is a series of small shops that can cater to your specific needs. Marguez? There's a joint near that. Spanish cooking with a specific need for a paella (the pan for cooking a paella is itself called a paella), there's a place that sells it. A bit of a melange? That's what La Vielle Europe is for. So what makes La Vielle Europe such a good place to visit? Well, it might have to do with its blend of European charm and core Frenchness. When cultural anthropologists talk about food traditions they use the term foodways, which is the socioeconomic and cultural practices when it comes to food. When Quebec was a New French Signoralty hundreds of years ago, its culinary roots were preindustrial French. Then the Brits came in and injected its traditions, and throughout Montreal's history of expansion through immigration, new palates inform and expand upon these foodways, and there are still cultural and economic links back to France and other parts of Europe, and you see it in vivid display here. First, the cheese. The glorious cheese. One thing every visitor to Quebec learn quickly is the richness of the soil at "nos pays". They have great pasture, great dairy, and unlike the morons south of the border, they don't require their cheesemakers to pasteurize all their milk. As any American can attest, Quebec cheese is just better, creamier and more complex, and there is no better place to buy cheese than here. Have something in mind? Point and ask! They are not stingy with samples and will toss a few clues your way. The price is fairly decent as well, check out their discount section for some good stuff. Next, the baked goods. Yeah, they have bread, but they also have galettes, pasteis and will do you a sandwich. What kind of sandwich? They can do something classical like a jambon sandwich, or they can make you one of those gorgeous Portuguese sandwiches with their large eggy rolls. What about syrups and the beans? Yeah, for the coffee geeks out there, they have a massive selection of roasts and varietals, and the same goes for the au chocolat. Sure, they got coffee syrups to add that extra bit of salted caramel to your brew, but the payoff comes to your sodastream machine - The real charm comes from the availability of drinks syrups from France, the Teisseires and the Piquitos. Trust me, it's much better than the crap on offer in the US, and they last a long time. Honestly, with their large selection of sauces, candies, charcuterie and cooking oils, you cannot help but be impressed by both the breadth and depth of their selections. Want good eating? Visit old Europe. No availability on Air Transat? Bixi out to La Vielle Europe.

As others have said, they also make sandwiches to go, which one can choose to eat at their little parcel shelf next to the door. The appeal of this place for me, though, is the partially-smoked and cured pork shoulder rolls they keep in the small cold case along the back wall. They're not even labelled, so you may have to ask to be pointed at them. But do ask. One of those balls of meat, simmered in a cauldron of water for 150 minutes, yields both the most densely-flavored, tastiest cold pork you'll ever put on your sideboard, and a pot of truly magnificent stock for your next pea or white bean soup. They also sell a couple of different varieties of bacon, in slabs if you wish. And there is no question too stupid for the bright lady in the baseball hat behind the cash. This is another of those little places that makes cooking my way through a Montreal winter into something I almost look forward to in summer.
