I am an avid "try everything" type of person whether it's food, fitness, exploration etc. And boy am I GLAD I tried Solidcore in Old Town!!! I love the energetic and vibey studio. Reminds me of something in NYC or LA. The instructors are welcoming and helpful. It's also an amazing full body workout that will be sure to give you lean muscle definition. My favorite instructor is Kayla - she also has the best sequencing on the machine and seems to know exactly how to burn out muscles- in the best type of way. She must meticulously plan her class and music because it feels super professional each and every time and I always feel like I had an amazing workout with the right amount of soreness. I also like the variety she uses because I sometimes can get bored with certain workouts- blame my ADHD. She pushes you the right amount too and just when I think I can't give anymore- there she is to help me keep going! I haven't tried their Arms&Abs class but I'd LOVE to see a Booty&Abs focused class :) Classes go by quickly and the loud music helps you get out of your mind and have FUN! Working out should be a good time in my opinion - it keeps me going back for more ! read more

I've now attended 2 classes at [solidcore] and I feel like I'm hooked. I also feel like someone ran over me repeatedly until I lost all strength in various muscle groups! After my first class, last week, I tried to cross my legs and didn't have the strength to do so. I also had trouble bringing a coffee cup all the way up to my mouth. I should mention that I've been in the fitness industry for over 30 years as an instructor and a trainer, and am also a (former) marathoner, these classes kicked my ass. I've held back one star because I've only been to 2 classes and had the same trainer, Mary. Trainers can be super-critical of other trainers, and I REALLY like her motivational style. She also gives extremely clear instructions and, when needed, demonstrates proper form. She offered modifications as well as enhancements for everything she asked of us. I give her 5 stars! The "megaformer" is simple to master, but it may be easier for me because I train clients using a Pilates Reformer. Most of the moves I've been introduced to at [solidcore] remind me of classic Pilates exercises but enhanced (read: harder) since the megaformer has 2 additional platforms at either end of the (moveable) carriage. There is the same potential for injury as in a Reformer class, but I noticed that Mary kept an eye on all of us. In my opinion, [solidcore] is a fabulous addition too Alexandria!! read more

I went here this morning for a workout and the instructor was incredible! She explained everything in detail since it was my first time. It works your core and shoulders a ton! I was super impressed and can't wait to go back. They have clean restrooms and plenty of cubbies for your stuff. read more

I started going to this gym because it was close to my apartment and I wanted to try something new, but stayed because it's an incredible workout! I'm always sore after class, but in the best way possible. I know I've gotten in a great workout, and in only 50 minutes. The coaches are very nice, and always encouraging. My only complaint is the pricing. It's so expensive! It's probably worth it, but I struggle to allow myself to spend $330 for a 10 class package... They do have a good first-timer price special, though. Try it out, and be prepared to sweat! You might feel like you're dying, but you can totally do it. :) read more

I tried to write a review on Mindbody (the online class booking system Solidcore uses), but for some reason it didn't ask me how my class went after I finished, or let me write one - so Yelp it is! This morning I took Callie's class and she kicked my butt! I live in NC, but come to Old Town for work once a month and always try to get into a Solidcore class if my schedule allows, as I love the megaformer (or as they call their machine - the sweatlana!) I've had Callie before and she is SO motivating. I felt pushed to my limit in a good way and got a full body workout (you can expect this in every class!) I also saw her helping those in class who were new or more beginner and made sure everyone was safe and doing the moves properly. Her music / playlist was AWESOME - for me, music can make or break a class. I will absolutely be going back to Solidcore on my next visit, and if you haven't been - take a leap and try Callie's class.. she won't let you down! read more

I am a HUGE fan of Solidcore and it is consistently the hardest workout I've ever done (and I'm a fitness professional!). The instructors are insanely talented and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable with the equipment during the entire class. I love the personalized attention I receive and I never feel shamed for stopping to rest my achy muscles! I do wish there were a few more affordable packages, but off-peak is the way to go for my budget so I do appreciate that! Also this studio has ample bathrooms space, which I don't usually see at the downtown locations (understandably so). If might be my favorite location out of Shaw, AdMo and Mt. Vernon! read more

This place has a gorgeous studio and really upbeat, motivational instructors. I only took one class, and wasn't thrilled with the solidcore methodology. I'm a fit person and very familiar with the Classical Pilates method as well as some variations, that being said this class wasn't very focused on healthy body positioning for the movements and the instructor didn't offer modifications to accommodate different people's needs. It was more of a grin and bear methodology versus adopting their movements to fit each persons ability level. Honestly seemed like an easy route for injury. Loved the location, music, and studio, I'm just not a Solidcore fan as it turns out. read more

Over the years, I've tried every boutique fitness studio in the DMV, and nothing has come close to [solidcore]. EVERY session is intense kicks your butt (and abs and legs). There's nothing more irritating than having a bad workout, which you pay good $$ for. This is definitely worth it and has become a staple in my workout routine. My Favorite Workout Community... I started [solidcore] several months ago because of nearly obsolete abdominal strength post-surgery that necessitated cutting into my lower obliques. Friends, you don't realize how essential your core strength is to every internal and external movement until you temporarily lose it. Committing to [solidcore] 3 to 4 times a week has completely transformed my core strength (abs & back), increased balance, and introduced me to muscles & tendons I never knew existed after a lifetime of weight training in the gym (hello hammies and that mysterious inner tricep). While I'm a long way from my previous fitness level, [solidcore] has modifications that have been accommodating along the way. I began in March 2017 and I'm still alive! The workout sessions are definitely no joke. Don't be intimidated by all the "athletes" up in there. With sweat pouring down my face and into my eyes, its gratifying to see the athletes are having a hard time too - so no matter what - keep at it. In such a short time, there are so many changes in my body and most especially my mind/mood. I just all around feel good. The Old Town facility is immaculate and I love the fact there is no funky gym room smell. Most importantly, I have to give a shout out to my coaches Natalie, Lauren and Callie. Hands down the hardest workout I've ever done. My heart rate was up the entire time, even though it's not like traditional cardio, and my legs were shaking by the end of class. It's a very intense workout, but the instructors are amazing and keep you motivated. It's the perfect workout if you like to challenge yourself. Each time I go, I get a little stronger and am able to push myself more. I definitely recommend first timers watch the videos on the website and come a little early to the first class to get the rundown of the machines. I went to Solidcore on a weekly basis for 2 months, and the class did not get any easier. It's an intense workout and you will leave drenched in sweat. While it was a good workout, it was so intense I felt like I couldn't make it more than five minutes without taking a break. I purchased two new customer specials to see how I liked it but it's too expensive to go on a regular basis. I'm more of a pilates reformer kind of girl. read more

I initially came to Solidcore to compare it to another fitness studio I was considering joining and after trying a few classes have stayed here. They offer plenty of classes every day with various instructors - I've always been able to find a class that fits my schedule. For my first class, the instructor gave me a thorough walk-through of the equipment so I knew what I was doing. Every instructor after that has made a point to remember my name and give positive encouragement before, during and after class. I'm post baby and am pretty down on myself for letting myself get so out of shape. Not only is this workout wonderful and challenging, it's extremely uplifting. The coaches are really positive, but when they think you are slacking, they encourage you to push yourself, which is wonderful. They also make sure your form and weight load is spot on. This is one of the best workouts I have ever done. Once getting over the sticker shock, I have continued to come back about once a week. I like that the classes are small and that the "coach" is going around watching everyone's form and making needed corrections. This is def. a workout that makes you sweat and feel the burn during and after! Highly recommend everyone check it out at least once to see what an overall workout you get from the mega refomer -- butt, abs, arms, thighs -- you name it and it gets worked during this 50 minute class. The Best Workout in the D.C. Area To be frank with you, I didn't think I'd sign up for [solidcore]. I figured it was just an advanced type of pilates that wouldn't meet my needs. Yet, one Friday in April, I was looking to try something new. So I gave the workout a shot. I checked out the Old Town Alexandria location and took Meg's class. Two minutes into the workout I was sweating like never before. When class ended, I was drained--in a good way. A few months later, Old Town Alexandria has become my primary [solidcore] gym, where highly-qualified, super friendly, and upbeat instructors, such as Julie, Gloria, Kelly, Caroline, Meg, Ali, Lucy, and Jordan, are there to guide me through the planking, holding, lunging, and lifting. The camaraderie during class also helps a lot. Everybody encourages each other to push further; stay on those toes longer; squeeze in that extra rep. Then, after class, instructors will tell you to "high-five your neighbor." And that'll be one of the best high-fives you'll get all day. The [solidcore] experience has been transformative. Solidcore has truly saved my sanity. I moved to the DC area a year ago, away from all of my friends, family, and routines. Nothing felt comfortable, I couldn't make friends, exercise used to be an outlet for me back in home, but it just wasn't "clicking" for me here. To say I felt "out of my element" is an understatement. Then came Solidcore. My brother in law came to visit, signed us up for class for some family bonding, and that's when things changed. Never did I expect a workout (which truly by nature makes you feel uncomfortable and out of your element) to bring me back to life so drastically. There is something so special about the accomplishment that you feel when you finish a class. To know that you pushed through those shakes, changed your body by achieving muscle failure, kept going, and ended that class with smiles and high fives...seriously, it's a joy to be a part of. This is by far the best workout around! It's high intensity, so you get a great workout, but it is low impact, so you aren't putting a crazy amount of pressure on your joints. All of the coaches are very motivating, welcoming, and helpful (Alli is my favorite!). In just 50 minutes, you get an amazing workout, and it is worth every penny! read more

Beautiful study but really crappy machines. I'm a big fan of traditional Lagree method (which SolidCore is not) but figured I'd give this a try while I was visiting Alexandria for the holidays. The carriage feels like a block of wood with a leather covering and the spring load color coding has all worn off from use. The machine overall felt stiff and uncomfortable compared to a Lagree certified megaformer which is much higher end and quality. All in all, enjoyed the studio and instructors here! Would go back despite the cheap feeling equipment. read more

I started doing SolidCore at the Old Town location, because one of my barre instructors also was an instructor at SolidCore. It is pricey, but worth it. And I try to think of the cost as the cost of a personal trainer because this is what you're getting. Each class is limited to a small number of people, and the instructors walk around and correct form. I have seen awesome results and am challenged every time I go. I've been to a lot of the studios (I work far away from home, and I also try to introduce people to solidcore, so I'll go to studios closer to where they are): Old Town, Wildwood, Tyson's, Cathedral Commons, and Mosaic. The instructors are consistent across the board, but each instructor has their own personal touch. read more

I was convinced to try Solidcore because I heard it was a great low intensity workout that would balance the HIIT workouts and running that I do the rest of the week. These classes push me to the limit in ways I didn't know were possible and the results are amazing. Yeah it's hard. Lots of reps of varying exercises on a machine. I do barre everyday and I had to stop multiple times during this class. Julie is a great coach and keeps you motivated throughout the 50 min. There are cubbies to store your personal items. Parking is easy and free. I don't see myself doing this multiple times a week, but I could go maybe once or twice a month. read more

One of the hardest and best workouts of my life. The coaches are wonderful. They motivate you and push you, but are also accommodating and teach you modifications. Natalie is my favorite and I make it a point to come to her classes. Same for Kimberly. The studio is clean and modern. Lots of natural sunlight in the waiting room. The bathrooms are always clean and well supplied. The exercise room itself is spacious and the new machines work very well. Try it and bring your friends. You will be sore for the first few days but you will learn to enjoy the soreness. I have been coming since October 2015 and have taken almost 130 classes so far and plan on continuing to come here. I've only taken three classes at solidcore since moving to the area in March but am hooked. The actual exercise itself is one of the most physically challenging things I've ever done. I teach group fitness, have tried pretty much everything under the sun, ran multiple marathons in a year, and nothing comes close to solidcore. I love that I drip with sweat and am barely moving. The coaches are motivating and ensure that all clients are in safe, proper form. The cues of which muscles to squeeze are so on point, allowing you to feel the push to the next level. I also appreciate how friendly everyone is, both staff and clients are welcoming and will strike up a conversation. Love solidcore! The instructors keep you motivated the entire class and make sure you're challenged enough to get a good workout but safe enough to be in control and avoid injuries. I used a Pilates Reformer machine in Physical Therapy five years ago and have been searching for a similar slow and controlled workout ever since. They always make sure you have a challenging workout, and you really feel like you're getting your money's worth when you walk out of the building with an endorphin-high and tired muscles. Let me start off by saying this workout is not for the faint of heart. But, if you can stick with it, results are possible even after 1 week (at least 3 classes per/ also maintaining a proper diet). I originally found out about Solidcore after watching Eileen Whelan from WJLA try out a class. I loved the idea of a workout that was challenging but also easy on the knees as I have done some serious damage over the years. During your first class, you will experience a variety of emotions ranging from: Okay, this isn't so bad, followed by, I think I'm going to throw-up to, I have never sweat this much before during a workout and ending with, I'm never doing this again. However, I promise it does get "easier" and I use that loosely as each workout is different, but you will get stronger which will enable you to hold the exercises longer. I have completed 4 classes thus far and I've already seen dramatic improvements not only in my overall strength but in my muscle tone. My husband has even complimented my arms and has also been surprised in how short of time he could see the definition. Now, the issue of price seems to be a big concern for a lot of people and it's understandable as it is expensive. However, this isn't your regular gym membership and you practically have your own personal trainer in every class. I have wasted so much money over the years on gym memberships I never used. With Solidcore, they as a personal trainer would, hold you to your reserved class spot and if you miss your class, you owe 30.00 (if you don't cancel 12 hours prior). Believe me, when I want to do nothing more than come home from work and sit in front of the TV I am so glad I made that reservation. All the instructors are amazing and push you to do more than you ever thought you could. If you are looking for a new workout, you should definitely give them a try, you won't be disappointed...sore yes, but happy you did it. read more

[solidcore] is BY FAR the best workout!! No matter where you are in your fitness journey, I guarantee you will love it! As one who has struggled with previous fitness injuries, I love that this workout is full body, high intensity and low impact. I've been taking 3 classes a week for months now and have seen an incredible difference, especially in my strength! Not only is the workout A M A Z I N G, the coaches and fellow classmates are welcoming, motivating and so much fun! I strongly recommend it to all! My suggestion is arrive to class early so get a run down through the machine, some of the moves and for the opportunity to chat with your coach and others in the studio. I LOVE solidcore. One of the best workouts I've had. I love that the instructors talk about strength rather than "looking good." It truly is about finding that inner strength and pushing yourself a bit each time. I've always been a big runner but hate going to the gym to do strength training. This class is great for runners as it truly does focus on core strength and gets me to finally do push-ups. All I can say is this is probably THE hardest workout I've ever done. I was introduced to [the experience] by Ambler Jackson "AJ" who was training to become an instructor and had an opportunity to attend her mock sessions at the Mt. Vernon DC location. I try to stay relatively in shape and I usually really enjoy an intense workout so I was excited. WOW! within the first 2 minutes I was sweating like crazy! So embarrassed - - until I look over and notice that everyone else is sweating like crazy too! Such an intense but low impact and GREAT workout - - I'm hooked. I usually go once or twice a week only b/c of the location and my work schedule, but I definitely notice a difference [much improved] in my body and core strength and I've only been going since January 2016. I've been to several locations - Mt. Vernon, Ashburn, and Old Town. All are great! My "go to" is Old Town. ALL of the instructors are great - - but AJ and Ali are my definite "go to" classes. read more

I started doing [solidcore] 6 weeks after I had my first child. I was in the worst shape of my life and had little confidence when it comes to working out in groups. [Solidcore] gave me the shakes and sore muscles for days after the class and is an environment where the coaches are motivating and supportive and I never feel judged for my inability to do something. I have noticed that over the last 5 months, I have gotten stronger and more confident and my best days are days I get to go to class. I dread going because I know that my body is going to shake and hurt for 50 minutes, but as soon as it's over I cannot wait to come back.
