I was visiting a relative in town and was just looking for a place to run and work out in that wasn't outdoors in 90+-degree weather. (We Southern Californians are weather wimps.) It was so nice and cool - which is not true of all DC-area gyms. It was also clean and felt very safe for my first indoors post-pandemic workout. Best of all, the people that worked there were super helpful while being low-key. And it wasn't crowded both times I went, with the customers also seeming to be pretty low-key while being focused on their workout. (No grunting loudly every single rep and slamming weights down at the end of the set, which, any pro will tell you, honestly means you need to take the weights down a bit until you can control them.) I just wish I could transport Energy Club to Southern California. But if you live in the area, do yourself a favor and check them out.

The equipment variety is endless, giving you a ton of creativity with workouts so you never get bored. The facility is clean and very well maintained. Not only is the entire staff incredibly friendly, helpful, and welcoming but so are the rest of the members. There is zero judgment or ego here.

6-7-25 I absolutely LOOOVEd my time at this event 'Breaking Boundaries: A Day of Fitness for the…read moreBlind"!! I learned so much stuff from the instructors!! Amy & her husband, my coaches were a surprise Amber and Meredith-Grace!!. They even surprised us with a feature of a martial arts/self defense instructor! and he showed us some moves!!.... That workout was tough!!! I'm STILL sore even with only doing 3 sets each of different activities! I did the 18lb kettlebells & other things whole body felt like noodles!! But well worth it!!!... I loved that it was simple challenging they had army training guys on hand and my spotter was a 70 year old cool diabetic who taught me things I could pass on to my LOOOVE so it was a fantastic place and day!! I hope there's more classes because blind/vision impaired ppl are ppl too we just need a little more time and patience to navigate the world. I majorly LOOOVEd that everyone treated us as if we were just normal ppl coming to workout and we could see everything!! & the spotters were there just so we wouldn't hurt ourselves since it's our first go!!!

Best crossfit gym ever! Ive always been active but not strong so was intimidated by CF for awhile…read moreeven though I've wanted to try it. I've been coming for about 8 months now since their elementals class which gives you the basics on form, what to expect in the classes, etc. These were fantastic and I highly recommend to familiarize yourself to a CrossFit workout. Now I'm addicted and come about 2-3 times a week along with other workouts I do. In just 8 months, I feel like I've made so much more progress than in any other fitness routine I've done. I'm strong, toned, and I have never been injured here.. just a few bruises and sore muscles. Oh but it hurts so good, because I really see and feel the difference. In just one hour, you'll have the best workout of your life every time. The coaches here are really amazing and make sure they watch your form and make modifications so you don't get hurt, but truly you have to understand your limits and ask questions when needed. I'm amazed that my torn knee and back have not bothered me at all anymore now that I've strengthened the main and accessory muscles. I feel so strong!!! Thanks for making me feel like such a badass!!!

I have been a member of Gold's Gym for over 20 years. We started at the original Bailey's…read moreCrossroads location, then Seven Corners, and then the new Bailey's location. If it was not for the personal trainer my wife uses, there is a strong possibility we would change to another gym. There are a decent number of machines, free weight stations, etc., but since the location opened (I think 2 years now?) I have not seen one new piece of equipment. Suggestions to management appear to go unnoticed. As for the free weights, they are often scattered amongst all of the machines or stations, and no one seems to ever clean them up. As for managers, I have not seen a single one last more than a month. That is if you can even find one. Currently I have been trying to convert my membership to Silver Sneakers. The front desk personnel say I need to speak with a manager. They also say that they have not seen the current manager for days. Maybe that is why there has been no toilet paper in the restrooms, the hand sanitizers by the front doors have been empty, and I can't make the transition. I did go to the main webpage for DC Gold's Gyms to use the Member Services link (as instructed by someone I spoke with and by the AI operator). What I loved was clicking on it and only getting a Cancel Membership screen. Not a great way to keep your members when the services is to ask for them to cancel. In addition, there is no other way to contact the main owners of these metro gyms on the web page. Are they tired of hearing from their members? Again, other than the lack of management, investment in keeping this gym interesting with new or changed equipment, the people that do work here are great, especially folks like Jay at the front desk and John the personal trainer (the best!). Hopefully this will get the attention of the owners.

Since then, I have been working out at the Bailey's Crossroads gym, four or five times a week, and I wanted to put in a few good words for the staff. Just this week, I attended one of Meagan's Silver Sneakers aerobics classes (which I used to take from her at Merifield). Meagan is a NATIONAL TREASURE when it comes to aerobics for seniors, and scores of regulars have migrated over from Merrifield and other parts of the DMV to continue taking her classes. In fact, we had so many people show up that Orlando and Bryce had to bring in extra chairs, and I think we ran out of six and three pound weights. Please consult Orlando for any materials needed for Meagan's classes because the satisfied customer base is definitely already there. Speaking of Orlando I wanted to express what a great job he is doing as GM. I have a birth injury to my left arm/shoulder which limits my mobility and strength significantly. While I was working out, Orlando noticed my disability, and asked me about it. Per his offer, I accepted a free personal training workout from Brett, who came recommended as a trauma recovery expert, and chose to continue having twice weekly workouts/therapy under Brett's supervision. My strength and added mobility is improving. In short, Gold's Gym/Bailey's is a terrific place to work out and I am proud to be a member.

The exercise equipment and pro shop gear/supplements are all top of the line - you can tell that a lot of time is invested into making sure that S&S is outfitted with the high quality fitness products you need to reach your goals. Group classes are intentionally small so coaches consistently provide the feedback necessary to promote progress and prevent injury. In conjunction with the workouts, Nutrition and Mobility coaching create the perfect antidote for the desk life that plagues many of us in the DMV area. Sand & Steel meets everyone where they are, making it easy to just show up and do the work. Paul and Dawn maintain a strong culture of safety, standards, and support so, no matter what class or session you're in, you will get top tier instruction, modifications, and motivation from day one.

There are so many activities and things to do besides the actual workout which provides for a strong sense of community. All the above make it a great box, what makes the place exceptional is the fact that they go out of their way to help and support you. Paul worked with me to create the best plan that fits my time, finances, and goals. My coach, Ben, who is super nice and knowledgable, went above and beyond to teach me the right form and technique. When I told him I was little nervous about taking the first class, he offered to workout next to me to make sure I was doing well. That is a level of care you only see in people who are passionate about what they do and take pride in their work. Cons: None. Really, none!
