Came in to complete my Classpass trial as this place was 15 credits (Jan 2024). For here you'd find street parking, and if you go outside of 4-7pm M-F, parking is free. Note that they give you a passcode upon signing up for a class. The number pad is to the left of the entrance. When I walked in no one was at the front to greet me which I thought was unusual for studios. I found my way around to the lockers and bathroom before class, and ultimately found myself an open reformer in the main room. We had a sub Derika that was brand new as a teacher, but class was still equally challenging. It was a 7:30pm class so I appreciated her pacing and volume of music -- not too fast and not too loud. Plus her cueing was very clear and she encourages you with hands on assists and calling out your name. I really appreciated her class. Upon walking out, I noticed that they offered complimentary lifesaver mints, hairties for class, earplugs (didn't need them thankfully!) and liquid IV (yuzu pineapple). They also had hand sanitizer and tissues for personal use as well. There are towels that you can buy for $8.00 if you know you sweat a lot during class. The only critical comment I'll make is that it smelled like sweat and water mold upon walking in. As a neurodivergent with heightened sense of smell, this wasn't appreciated, but I'm glad the studio itself was free of this smell or else I would've left. This is where I deducted my star. Nonetheless, I'm glad I got to experience solidcore through classpass. I won't be renewing my classpass at this time, but in the future if I do, I will continue to come to solidcore!

Street parking. Code to enter. Easier to open with the app. Clean inside. Seems like a secure building. I definitely enjoyed my workout. It is very intimidating but I can see how a person can yield results quickly

I've gone to the Old Town and Courthouse studios for a little under 10 visits. The trainers all have slightly different approaches but the overall same vibe. None of the trainers go full blown bootcamp sergeant. They do yell, a lot, but more along the lines of yelling heartfelt encouragement. Its oddly motivating. They push you to work harder, without making it a competition between attendees. The trainers keep track of the attendees, will often call out your name and give your encouragement throughout the workout (even if their first time meeting you), and are actively engaged in paying attention to everyone's form and fitness level. All of the trainers I've had so far make it appear effortless, which leads me to believe it took a lot of classes and training to get to be a coach. The machine (svetlana) is awkward to say the least. The more you attend the less foreign it seems. Its insane how many different variations the trainers are able to come up with using for this oddly versatile machine. Body position is very important. You may be wrong for several classes, but you eventually pick it up.The one downside to using the machine is that they have a color coded cable/weight system. There is no real way to know the actual weight for each cable. The coaches will let you know which cables to use ("one white and one grey for anyone with less than 10 classes") but not knowing the actually weight is odd. The doors have keycodes that are texted to you in advance. There isn't really a consistent method of storing personal belongings. One of the studios has a combo locker, but the others tend to have bench drawer combos with no lock. Its mostly on the honor system, while I've never had any issues with finding my personal items, the honor system usually fails eventually. They don't really have a receptionist stationed. Obtaining merch, and water is also on the honor system. You sign up on a notepad if you grab a water or a shirt and within a set time, they will charge you for the item. The workouts are intense. You need to know yourself, but also be willing to push your limits. Throughout my first few workouts I may have said "Oh my god he/she is trying to kill me" maybe half a dozen times. Towards my 8th or 10th session I'm down to saying it only once or twice a workout. That shows improvement. All the class members are cool. Everyone is trying their best, and everyone is oddly very good at somethings and not so good at others. But you wind up silently (or though intense breathing) cheering your neighbors on, because they are in this right along with you. All in all, Solidcore is worth an introductory class pack if you are in the mood for the gym but looking to spice it up.

Hardest damn workout ever! I say this as it is hard for both body and mind. There are times where my body wants to speed up the reps...there are times my mind tells me to "stop" and all of the time, the instructors encourage you to keep on going. The exercises are "slow burners" in that the reps are done slowly with attention to form. All exercises are done on a megaformer (imagine a reformer on steroids). There are a few exercises I cannot to the "full expression" and have come to learn the modifications (hey, we all have to start somewhere). The instructors do a great job of timing and pairing exercises to the music. The equipment is new and maintained (although a couple of sleds have "less cushion" in the holes and if you get your knee in there just right it will smart). I prefer the Alexandria over the Arlington location for the ease of parking. There is plenty of on-street parking in Alexandria, whereas in Arlington, I usually end up parking in the Ballston Mall garage. I may be biased, but since I'm from Minnesota, I feel a special connection to Solidcore (locations in DC Area and Minnesota).

I have been out of practice for a bit so this was a nice re-entry point. While the music and instruction and very quiet setting were different from my preferred yoga style, I will say that Angelina was a good teacher. The sequencing of the flow was great and I felt very challenged. I also appreciated how engaged she was with each student in different ways and the hands-on assistance she provided. I've been doing yoga for a while but there are still postures I'm confident aren't exactly right. She helped me correct a few and I was very grateful. She also recognized my flexibility and gave me additional adjustments/gentle pushes to get deeper into some postures. I also appreciated Mo at the front desk who was very nice and welcoming. Sometimes, when I come to smaller studios where everyone knows each other, I feel out of place but that wasn't the case here. Thanks, Radiance!

We stayed in Downtown Alexandria and the gym was around 15 mins away (walking). Such a great cute little women's studio. We did the Bosu class and it kicked our butts. This was such a loaded experience. As someone who frequents many small studios like this in various…read moreparts of the DMV, especially the V, I definitely have my likes and dislikes. Likes: Anna-Maria, the instructor, was very sweet. She was warm and welcoming, very encouraging throughout the workout, and had an interesting playlist. It was also a pretty good workout with the core/upper body sections being better than others. Format: Surge Strength. It was very much a "lift to the music" while bringing in cardio elements workout. I like having music blaring but being on beat (or striving to be) annoys me because you're pressured to break form and not move meaningfully. I probably looked crazy, but I was seconds behind the other people in class because I wanted to actually lift, not swing my arms around. Also, some of the moves (mostly lower body), when moving that quickly, just don't target the areas I want to strengthen meaningfully. For some moves, I'd opt for slower, more controlled, classic moves so I could get it right. We were using "light to heavy" dumbbells - I think the highest is 15 pounds. Also, the "stop, grab your mat, unfold, and do floor work for a couple minutes" thing was kind of disorienting at times. Facilities/equipment: this is my second biggest gripe. While it looked mostly visibly clean, the floors were dirty AF, covered in stringy hairs. Ew. During the floor sections, I could see hair and other debris on the floor and it would even get on me if any part of me even slightly came off the mat, or hairs would be hanging from my weights when I picked them up.yuckkk. Also, the mats were funky. Very clear that they rely on folks doing the one-wipe swipe after sweaty workouts for cleaning and that's gross. They don't have a water cooler or even a cool Flow Water station or anything - they have two water fountains that are relatively low pressure. And they're connected, so only one works at a time. And they looked a little dusty. Vibe: It's a no for me, dawg. Outside of Anna-Maria, there was like NO diversity in the room (maybe one Asian woman in the front) which feels VERY WEIRD when the playlist is VERY Black with a little Brown sprinkled in. On top of that, the women in there were stuck up and some were, frankly, obnoxious. I got multiple stares (Yes, I'm Black! OMG lol) and when I was attempting to fill my water at the ratchet fountain, before I knew they were connected, this one white studio member, in such a condescending way, was like, "hi, yeah, they're actually connected, so..." Girl, bye. Oh, that brings me to another point: It was my first time at that location. I checked in and received no orientation/guidance from the girl at the front desk. I ended up entering the studio room and, thankfully, Anna-Maria was able to help me get set up. I think the girl at the front desk heard me receiving instructions and ran in just as the workout was about to start and apologized for not introducing me to things. But it was very much an afterthought and if I was someone who was super anxious or thrown off by stuff like that, I would've left. Oh, and it's def the type of place where the same people show up for the same classes (or multiple) regularly. To be honest, I disliked the vibe so much initially, I considered leaving like five minutes into the workout. But a player has goals, so I stayed. It seemed pretty clear who this space is intended for. And I've pretty much NEVER felt that way before, even when working out in tiny studios in places like Del Ray and Loudoun. I was less uncomfy towards the end, but initial impression plus hair: ew. You'll get a cute workout in but this vibe? Not for me.
