We had a fireplace surround slab separating from the wall that was installed by Solid Rock. For many months I called the store, texted and called the owner and finally went by the store to see if they would come out and remedy the situation. The person answering the phone said she would make sure Daniel called me back but never did. I told them I wasn't expecting a freebie but they still wouldn't get back to me. My builder finally found someone who immediately came out, fixed it and told me it was installed incorrectly and was nearly to the point of falling down on its own. I used Ventura Stone for another house we own and was very pleased with the service and they were 1/3 the price. read more

my new granite countertops are gorgeous, but this company was very difficult and unprofessional to deal with, plus they did not complete the job, and now they aren't responding to my email, calls or text. They never once showed up when they said they would, sometimes hours late and sometimes days without notification. made nu attempts to reach them regarding scheduling and the lack of communication but no luck there. The latest is that the holes they cut for the electrical outlets are too small. I'm quite certain that there will be no response to my pleas about this issue so now I have to hire a costly electrician who may or may not have a solution for me. The whole fiasco was annoying and extremely frustrating and I would never recommend this business to anyone. read more

Our countertop was installed last March. In July I discovered a crack in it and contacted Solid Rock. Eventually the owner came out and said it was covered by warrantee. For several months I called and visited the showroom and was rebuffed by the owner. In December I filed a claim with small claims court. The hearing was to be in March. Two weeks before the hearing, the countertop was finally replaced. When I was choosing a company for the countertop, I read a bad review on this site. Solid Rock was excellent at meeting the schedule that they set and understanding all the details that we wanted in our kitchen. Our countertops turned out just how we wanted them and it was a great experience from selecting the stone in the showroom to the final install phase. All of the workers were detail oriented and respectful. And it was pretty cool to watch how their CNC machines cut and polished the stone and that their full operation is completely in Santa Barbara. We just had our concrete kitchen countertops replaced with new countertops composed of Neolith, which is a relatively new "sintered stone" material. Not only is this a challenging material to work with, requiring special tools and expertise, but our layout was also challenging, with odd angles and a radius curved section as well. Even our demolition phase was difficult, due to the need to preserve a custom tile backsplash. I am happy to report that Solid Rock conquered all these challenges and did a terrific job. Daniel and his expert installation team were meticulous in making sure that it all came out right. Astonishingly, they were even more picky about perfection than my perfectionist wife! This company installed our countertops without putting a seam in a corner and now we have a large crack. Our kitchen is high end and when Daniel (the owner) came by to look at it he said it wasn't their fault. I've since had three installers (including a Pental representative) say the countertop was fabricated wrong and there should have been a seam in the corner. The corner is square, had they rounded it like they did around the sink, this would not have happened. Now we are stuck with a 12 inch crack in our countertop. Prior to the crack, they had to come back and replace an entire portion of the counter because they didn't have a lip in some areas including the sink area. Meaning, water would just spill right onto the cabinets if it flowed over the counter. When Daniel looked at it said it's industry standard. It was only after I called Pental to complain that Daniel reluctantly replaced it because he knew he was wrong (and the colors didn't match up so now we are stuck with that as well). read more

Fantastic service and the subway tile installation in our kitchen was flawless. The only issue we had was during the installation of our kitchen counters. t some point, our farmhouse sink was pushed back. The counters were attached and it was stuck there meaning that our new and very expensive sink did not hang over the counter to give that "farmhouse look" we were planning on. read more

Really awful experience. Solid rock cracked our granite while drilling holes and then tried to pass it off as 'natural fissures'. . Would not stand by their work. Daniel tried to intimidate us. They left the job and the contractor now taking Solid Rock to court. Save yourself the headaches and find someone who stands by their work. These guys are slimy. read more

Solid Rock has a great selection and we found a beautiful quartzite. This was not an easy project: the kitchen was built in 1948, floors and counters were uneven. Rock Solid and their craftspeople--Roman and Andre who laid tiles and the team who put in the counters--all were skilled artists who made sure everything fit together perfectly with the farmhouse sink and original cabinets. What a great find! Daniel and his crew did a flawless job fabricating and installing my custom kitchen and two problematic custom bathroom countertops. Every step of the process was explained (a good thing since I knew nothing about renovations!), every question answered, every person I dealt with was thoroughly professional and showed impeccable integrity. I bought a beautiful slab at a discounted rate because it had a slight crack that wouldn't show for my project; Daniel chose, on his own, to use the other matching, undamaged piece because he wanted to make sure I got the absolute best piece possible- and he wouldn't even accept payment for the considerable price difference! Great care was taken with every detail; when a mistake was made, which is easy to do when working with something heavy, big and requiring great precision, Daniel took full responsibility, said he would find another piece of the same style & quality (Tiger Skin granite), get it fabricated, cut and ready for installation at the same time as the other pieces, at no cost to me. I was operating on a tight deadline, and didn't see how he could possibly get it taken care of in time, but he somehow accomplished a miracle, and everything was done on time and with perfect precision. They graciously came back out and added a few more pieces of backsplash i hadn't initially planned on, and also made me a charming small table top from my slab remnant- again, at no additional charge! I've seen the work done by certain other stone dealers in town, and Solid Rock was by far the best, most professional job-done by people who really care about the quality of their work, offering the highest level of customer satisfaction. They were a pleasure to deal with, from start to finish. When you're spending loads of money on something that will make or break the way your renovation turns out, you need to trust your contractors. You can't do better than Solid Rock. I only wish I'd taken the time to write my review sooner, because these folks did a stellar job at a very good price, and they deserve recognition for being head and shoulders above their competition. i was in town from Ojai visiting my daughter in SB and saw this stone place (we're remodeling our kitchen) so I'm in the market for stone. I saw the quartzite I'm interested in, so we walked in and I asked the fellow at the desk how much the quartzite was per square foot. He very sarcastically told me they didn't sell it by the square foot. Really, do I look that stupid? He told me the slab was $2,500. Ok, I think we're getting somewhere. I ask him how large the slab was, he said he didn't know the size of the slabs he has, but the size was marked clearly on the slab. So I leave the office and walk out to the yard again, which is at the front of the shop and thought to myself, I'm never doing business with this guy anyway and just keeping walking. Which, by the way, I would recommend everyone do, just keep walking. Too rude and condescending to do business there. Just drive down the road about 30 minutes to Ventura Stone (they also have a much larger selection) and they actually seem to want your business. Don't know if it was near closing time on Saturday, he was having a bad day or he's just plain rude. read more
