UPDATE 6 Feb 2018: it's been a few months since I've eaten here and decided to go....Well, they're definitely back in my top 5 places to eat in Tucson. Chicken Katsu plate with mac salad and rice was on point. Plus they sell spam musubi (spam sushi)?!? Portions are generous and the atmosphere is great. Island music in the background makes you feel comfortable. Go check it out and see for yourself! I've been eating solid grindz since they were just posted up at the base. They are good, however, their food has been mediocre my last 3 trips. I got the chicken katsu plate and it was over cooked. Portions have gotten smaller on the rice and mac salad. But if I had to choose between solid grindz and mamas hawaiian bbq, I'd definitely pick solid grindz for the price. read more

Solid hole in the wall restaurant. Best shrimp and chicken in town. And that spam on rice with seaweed thing is amazing.

I've tried eating here 3 times and have yet to be able to try it. Everytime I've gone its been closed when though it's their normal business hours. read more

We are just passing through Tucson and saw an ad for this restaurant. Looked good so we gave it a try. Wonderful meat!!! My wife had the brisket while I had the pork ribs. Each meal came with beans, coleslaw and potato salad, each great in its own right. My wife got so much brisket, she couldn't finish it and we took back to the hotel. I got three nice sized ribs with lots of meat with a really nice char on them. Sauce was really good addition price was just $13 for each meal and a coke ran $2.00. Great deal on a great meal. I ordered the 2 meat large plate with the barbecue chicken and kalbi beef. Normally in Hawaiian restaurants that I've been to, the chicken is usually cut in large pieces, maybe 3 pieces and served. In this restaurant, they dice the chicken into many different sized pieces. The result is that a quarter of the chicken was overcooked and tough. My fork couldn't pierce some of the pieces! The rest of the pieces were decent. The Kalbi short ribs were decent as well. Not too tough nor too overcooked. Good flavor. Passing through Tucson from Texas and the family decided to try something new. The staff was very nice and answered all of our annoying tourist questions with a smile about the food. The food came fairly quickly for our table of 6 and was absolutely delicious! My kids ate all their food which is a miracle in itself. Definitely worth trying. read more

Great Hawaian inspired food. Kaluah pulled pork, moco loco, and the list goes on. Excellent food for a very inexpensive price.

The staff is awesome and friendly. The best Hawaiian grinds in Tucson hands down. The portions are generous and tasty not bland.

The directions are wrong, so watch that close. It is still worth going. The beef ribs are excellent and so was the teriyaki chicken. The employees were extremely friendly and the place was clean. You can't ask for anything else. read more

Great Hawaiian food. I had the spam musubi, which was a great comb of sweet and salty. The shrimp pad Thai had the right amount of spicy for a non spice consumer like myself. My nose is running as I write the this. Also had the chicken teriyaki, which was only slightly burnt. read more

Big supporter of the local military! They're food is tasty and the people are great. They often cater events on base, they are very reasonably priced and the portions they provide are great. I love their bang bang shrimp and Mac salad, but also very much enjoy their other items. Love when local Business have great food and support the military!!! read more

Love this place. Seriously the best Hawaiian Food I've had outside of Hawaii. Hell I think it's just as good if not better. Staff is always friendly even when there's an issue they work to make it right and make you feel valued. Will continue to eat here and tell all my friends and family about it. At first i wasn't sure about this place. Then i realized it was the food truck so i was all in. Well, i don't know if it was because I came around 6 and they were done cooking food. I got my food to go. I instantly realized that they had microwaved my wings. They were good but you can tell they weren't fresh which i guess is fine. I tried the shrimp and the beef it was good( a little sweet) however I got extremely sick for two days straight. Achey and other food serious poison symptoms I'd rather not describe in detail. The staff was wonderful but the overall vibe to the restauraunt wasn't my cup of tea. Will not return. Some of the best Kailua pulled pork I've had outside of Oahu. The teriyaki chicken was also excellent, with a homemade teriyaki recipe that had a noticeable nutmeg flavor, more sweet than salt, and a very slight bite. read more

The cut down potion sizes significantly. And they don't put the sauce (makes the food) in the bags. We drove from vail to pick up got home no sauce. May sound stupid but they should at least post that you have to get your own sauce. When I called she said "it's on the table and you have to get it yourself" ....when you order to go everything should be in the bag when you pick up. Its not the place it use to be. Chicken and pork tasted like it sat for a while (gamy taste when meat is too old). We went all the time and my husband was a regular but the food and service has changed. read more

Macaroni salad is the best I've ever had, the rice is perfectly cooked, and the ribs are outta this world.

The Kalua Pork & cabbage and chicken katsu is out of this world!!!! So so good! The Kalbi was ok, the marinade is not as good as Mama's, same feeling about the Terri chicken. Other than that, excited to be able to eat Hawaiian foods in Tucson! Will be back again! read more

Love Solid Grindz food. No longer have to settle for soso Hawaiian food in Tucson. Only problem is, after a grand opening, they decided to only serve the military base. While I think it's great to support the troops, I don't know why they don't spend any time off base. I was happy to see this last week they announced some time at UofA then changed their mind. That wasn't cool. As much as I loved the food from the grand opening, I am likely to not return even when they return to serve the civilians. Quality of food is the only reason this is a 3 star and not a 1. read more
