Chapel
Joyce G.

Visited 9/29/2016 Located on a quiet street. Plenty of free street parking. Upon entering the facility, I noticed right away how nice it looked. There was a sitting area near the front desk which was very inviting. I looked around and definitely liked what I saw. The staff appeared to be friendly and helpful towards me and especially towards the patients. There are different sections depending on what level of care the patient needed. There's a really nice looking chapel located on the grounds. In the memory area, it's a locked unit. When I opened the door, an alarm went off and the staff came right away. Perfect for wandering patients! The waiting area for this unit was also very nice. The eating areas were nicely done. There was a TV in the eating area in the memory unit. I noticed that the patients in the memory unit had scheduled activities which was great. The living quarters are so nicely done and personalized with the patients stuff. They have their own bathroom with safety features. I didn't notice any smells. The SNF area takes Medicare and other insurances. A definite must see if you are considering placing your loved one in a memory unit.

Exceptional Care & Loving Community at Glen Park Mariposa!…read more If I could give Glen Park Mariposa more than five stars, I absolutely would! For the past few years, they have provided my elderly mother with not just outstanding care but a truly thriving and happy environment. From day one, the staff has been compassionate, attentive, and dedicated to her well-being. During the COVID epidemic, they went above and beyond to keep residents safe while ensuring they still felt connected and engaged. Thanks to their efforts, my mother has flourished here--something I never thought possible after she spent so many years alone following my father's passing. She has made wonderful friendships, enjoys bingo and chair yoga, and even has a special companion who brings her so much joy. Seeing her so happy and engaged in life again means the world to me. A huge shoutout to Crystal, Leslie, Susan, Tanya, Gisele, Lala, and the entire team for their kindness, professionalism, and unwavering support. And a very special thank you to Miriam Pink for her leadership and dedication in making Glen Park Mariposa such a warm, welcoming, and exceptional place for its residents. If you're looking for a loving, well-managed assisted living facility where residents truly thrive, Glen Park Mariposa is the place to be. I am forever grateful for the love and care they provide every single day.

We choose Montecito precisely because of the reviews on yelp, so i understand how important these reviews are. There is a Kaiser doctor and Kaiser case manager permanently assigned to this facility. For those with Kaiser - this is a very big deal. They helped coordinate my MIL's care with the rest of her healthcare team; and when she needed to go to the hospital for a doctor's visit, an mri, or other procedure, they arranged the transportation. The facility itself is in the middle of getting a new paint job. I think this will help with the ambiance. There is a heaviness that weighs you down when you are here, and we left before the paint job was completed, but in general, the facility is clean. The room assigned for actual physical and occupational therapy is too small for the amount of equipment and the number of patients who use it at the same time. A room will have multiple patients in it, and the bed you get is shielded for privacy by curtains that they pull around your area. Each patient gets a tv by the side of their bed, a beside table, and a small welcome package that includes no-slip socks and a toothbrush. The food they cook is prepared onsite. It's not a michellin star'd restaurant, but kudos to their chefs/cooks who prepare these meals for all the patients because i think it meets it's basic need. The staff at Montecito were mostly friendly and competent; but Montecito is ***extremely*** short-staffed. ** This is the largest basis for my loss of stars in this review.** There is a hierarchy to the nurses, and the ones at the bottom, it seems, are those who have the most patient interaction. They are the ones who do all the grunt work - they make the patients' bed, they bring their food, they help patients to the bathroom, they clean up patients... Maybe the facility spreads these employees too thin, but there were multiple instances where my MIL, or other people in her ward, would call for help because they needed to go to the bathroom or be changed, and an hour would pass without help. I am not kidding. It really gets to me how many times this happened. You can walk out of the ward to ask for help, and there are a bunch of i guess higher-level, higher paid, nurses sitting around the Nurse's Station just chatting. And they just tell you that they'll send someone over. One especially upsetting incident happened when i came by and i found my mil sitting in her wheelchair by the bed. She'd been wheeled in from her physical therapy, and had been left there for almost an hour. She really needed to go to the bathroom, and ended up puking on herself because her stomach was so upset. My mil finally got to the bathroom, got cleaned up, and got settled in bed, but i can't begin to share how upsetting this whole experience was. And no- i didn't complain because i don't know what kind of retaliation my mil might have gotten. I'm uncertain if other facilities have better staffing or if this is a problem with all such facilities at this price point. But my point is that we were unaware what to expect. I hope that this review sheds some light and helps you.
