First of all, Soleas in Menasha is not closed! So my husband and I decided to go there for lunch using a coupon we obtained from the menasha football team. The place was busy for lunch but we did get seated right away. The waitress looked frazzled, no smile, and kept sitting dowwn iun the booth while we waited to have our order taken. When I ordered my meal I noticed there was no hot sauce (bottles) so I asked for hot sauce with my meal. Once the food arrived, we were out of salsa and chips. When I asked for more the server said "its extra." I didnt complain and said "fine." The food. I ordered a burrito bowl. It was a soggy unflavorable, worst burrito bowl I have ever had. The lettuce was wilted and tasted old/mildew; my husband complained his burrito side of shredded lettuce was the same. To say I was truly disappointed in my meal, is an understatement. I literally took 4-5 bites and was done. When we got the bill...I was charged for the hot sauce. Who charges for hot sauce????????????!!!! I was charged for the extra salsa but so be it. A local said this was the place to go for Margaritas and they weren't wrong. When my friend and I pulled into the parking lot we thought we were in the wrong place, the space was so small, but upon walking through the door we knew we hit the jackpot. It's definitely popular with the locals and for good reason. Ask for the "House Margarita". It wasn't on the menu when we went but it's what EVERYONE was drinking. They are delicious, boozy, and not too sweet. Food was good and portions were huge. They had a few vegetarian options, not the biggest selection, but I found a few things I liked. Service was great and everyone was friendly. It has everything your looking for in a local favorite, definitely worth a stop. read more

Wow where to begin. It started off with the waiter not writing our order down for just myself and my wife. I noticed it as nit usual but who knows he must know what he's doing. NOT...our food came out timely since we were the practically ones there. I our 1 shared drink which was a Pina colada had a red look to it on the base. So when he checked on us I asked if the only Pina colada they offered was a strawberry one? So I then asked if they had the regular flavored coloada to offer. Who knows I thought maybe this was true because why else did he give us a strawberry one when we didn't even know that was a thing. Now back to writing it down......he had nothing to go by so he said he'd change it out. We'll not wanting the Hassel and wait we just took it. But we swear it had no alcohol in it?? After that I took one bite of my supposed "cheese " enchilada and it was actually chicken. So I asked him back and I questioned him what kind of enchilada I ordered? To which he turned his head down to my plate and eye balled my enchilada and of course said chicken. My wife was correct I showed my hand too early and I should have covered up my food to elicit a honest response from him. So since he didn't write it down and I have NEVER ordered anything bit a cheese enchilada we had to let it rest. The bill comes and I see an additional $3 on the bill for something we never ordered. I asked him and what it was. He said our second order of chips and sauce was charged to us. My reply was the when it was asked if us if we wanted more chips and bean dip at that time we should have been told it was an extra charge for it. His reply that it is in the menu, we'll since we'd placed our order we didn't have it to check BUT either way should it be buried on the menu anyways ? And if you don't even have menues the disclosure of info is on them. Either way BASICALLY THEY HAD ACHIEVED about 50% of our order which 2 of the items and those were water. read more

Came to this restaurant because I had to stay for a week in Appleton and I must say, I have a couple of pro's and cons. The cons first: there aren't many vegetarian options-- the beans had a distinct meaty flavor. Also, there were so many fruit flies in the restaurant I had to constantly swat them. The service was kind of slow but there were many people there so that's understandable. The pro's were many-- the margaritas were great! They had a perfect amount of alcohol. Parking here was ample. The food itself was great and they do serve chips and salsa when you arrive. The waitress was nice and knowledgeable. I would probably not come back, but it was one of the better spots that I found while I was there. read more

If you like Mexican food, you have to try this place! Their skinny margarita is to die for, they give you bean dip and salsa with chips when you sit down and their food is incredible. We had the poblano quesadilla, mouth water and amazing! The tacos were big with a large helping of meat. This wasn't my first time eating at a Solea, however my first visit to this location. While small, the atmosphere is comfortable. Our easier was very good. Attentive, polite, and quick. We ordered the flautas and a combination dinner that included a cheese enchilada and a chili relleno. I also elected to add a side of soup for an extra $2.00. The soup was very tasty. It was a poblano pepper soup and had a generous amount of chicken and avocado in it as well. The flautas were great. The combination dinner was good, however I was disappointed with the Chili Relleno. It turned out to be a variation of such; filled with beef, onion, seasonings, raisins, and almonds typed with a small amount of cheese sauce. The chili was not battered. The menu portion for the combination dinner did not indicate this difference, and in fact offered no description other than "Chili Relleno". This was my only disappointment, and I'm sure many love this variation, however I don't like raisins and wouldn't have ordered it had I known this. I did request to look at the menu again and verified that I had not missed a description. I even asked staff, but apparently this is the only way they make it. I still plan on returning in the future, however I will not be ordering the same thing. read more

I came here with some family on a Thursday night, and it was apparently one of the only times my family had ever been there when it wasn't packed. Chips and dip were provided for the table, with the dips including a fairly standard salsa, but also a bean dip that was a pleasant surprise. I have not seen that at another restaurant (although I am not from the area so maybe that's standard here), so it was a nice change of pace. I order the shrimp fajitas, which ended up being exactly what I expected shrimp fajitas would be. Others had items such as the chicken mole burrito, as well as the Solea trio, and they all seemed happy. I was also told the margaritas are quite good, so you should check those out if that's your thing. Honestly my only big complaint with Solea is that they use Styrofoam for their takeout containers, which is an automatic four star max for me. Outside of that, I had a great time and the food was pretty good. Just be careful on weekends, as it apparently gets pretty busy. read more

Delicious! Food comes out in massive quantities no matter what you order. There is plenty to share or take home for later. We had 9 people in our party and the service was excellent. We ordered the large appetizer sampler thinking there would be enough quesadillas, taquitos, and flautas for the kids, it was heavy on the nachos and light on the rest. 2 quesadilla wedges, 1 taquitos cut in half & 1 flauta cut in half. The food was very good and it seems as though the chefs take pride in the way it was presented. Our plates all featured colorful garnishes and interesting touches that you don't often see in standard Tex-Mex restaurants. The menu is pretty broad and will have something for almost every taste. Service was absolutely great with drinks and chips always full and prompt delivery of both our appetizers and entrees. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican foods but some places are okay, this was not. I feel like this place is trying to hard to be a Mexican restaurant but then just messes everything up. I have eaten at Solea's in Menasha many many times. There have been a few things that I was disappointed in (personal taste most times) but overall their food is great and they serve the best margaritas in town. Yes, it's crowded, noisy, and a hole-in-the-wall location. But it's one of our favorite places and the owner and manager work as hard as any of their employees. The food is Veracruz-based cuisine for the most part and is authentic, abundant, and tasty. I recommend you read the menu through including the insert and try something more than just ordinary standby dishes. Last time we went we had them make Arrachera Fajitas for two and it was so flavorful! We could have fed another person off of it without anyone going hungry. Be ready to park on the street on a busy night: that parking lot is small. read more

I judge a Mexican restaurant by two things: Chile Relleno and Tamale. I had both at Solea and was blown away by the Chile Relleno. It was top notch. My only suggestion is to order the sauce on the side. The white cheese sauce totally detracts from this fabulous dish- a mild chile stuffed with ground beef, onion, garlic, green olive, almonds and raisins. AMAZING! Not so much the tamale. Too much masa. The shredded pork was high quality in the tamale, just not enough of it. My husband had the pork Chimi and Chicken fajitas (what he judges a Mexican restaurant by) and felt the same. Good. A solid B minus. We will be back to try some other items on the extensive menu. Ok, on to the location... parking is odd. There are 4 or 5 spots out front, otherwise you're parking on the street. The entrance is on the side of the building and you walk into the bar and dining room. Yikes! Friendly staff greeted us right away from the other side of the dining room and guided us to a booth. We went on a Sunday night (usually a slow night in Fox Valley) and the place was packed. We were seated in a booth right away, but if it had been any busier, I would have left. This location is awkward and tiny, but kinda cool for those same reasons. If you want more space and easier parking, there are two other locations. The house margs are good- I'd like to try some of the specialty ones. All in all, we will be back. Although the food and service were very good, unfortunately, I have to give Solea Grill in Menasha only three stars. We had a group of 9 people (3 families and 1 single) on Saturday. We asked for separate checks but were told they won't do separate checks for groups of over six. When it came time to leave and we received our ONE check, it took over 30 minutes to decipher who ordered what and was very frustrating. SERIOUSLY, I have waited tables and it is not hard to do separate checks. Unfortunately Solea lost 30 minutes of time and two tables that could have seated more customers during that period. We will go to Solea in Appleton or Neenah from now on. read more

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant, hands down. The food is authentic and always comes out hot and cooked to perfection, you can tell that the chefs and the wait staff take pride in the food they serve. The service is always friendly and welcoming, and I imagine this is in part because they see a lot of regulars, and it's such a small space. When the door opens, everyone can see. The small size of the restaurant could be a turn off for some, but I think it makes the feel of the place more cozy and inviting. If I have to suggest a meal I would recommend the seafood enchiladas, though I don't think anything on their menu will disappoint. I can't speak for the other Solea locations, but this is one you shouldn't miss! read more

I've been to this Solea many times. I live just down the street. We take out often. Today was disappointing. Ordered tacos canijos which I have before. They only gave us one sauce, they usually have a mild and a hot. The pork had quite a bit of grizzle. Also ordered fajitas and they did not give us any tortillas! read more

The Menasha location of Solea is wildly inconsistent. We have been here before and loved it, but two of the last four times we have been there we have been disappointed. Saturday was the worst! I had the Chori-Pollo. It was OK, but way too greasy. I understand that chorizo has fat incorporated into the sausage, but didn't expect or want my chicken sitting in a pool of grease. My wife had the chicken fajita, which was easily the worst fajita we have ever had! The chicken was rubbery and flavorless, and the peppers and onions were undercooked and oddly flavorless also. Service was sub-par also. We had to track down our water to get some water after both of our drinks ran out mid-meal. He never checked on us or asked us how our food was. We will not be going back. Will need to go to Zacatecas or Antojitos for our Mexican fix in the future. read more

My sister and I were craving for some Mexican food and decided to come here. It was my first time trying this place out. This location is a lot smaller but still very nice inside. The day we came they were not busy at all, so it was nice. Like many Mexican restaurants they serve you chips and salsa. I ordered the tacos al pastor which was average. The meat didn't have much flavor including the salsa that came with. I'll have to say I prefer the tacos at Mr. Tacos (Mrs. Fajitas) even though I believe they are now closed, which is sad! I believe Solea to be the best version of "Fox Valley Mexican" in..well, the Fox Valley. The restaurant is ti-ny but that is part of its neighborhood charm. What sets Solea apart from the rest is exceptional service... ALWAYS! and an actual honest to goodness real margarita. I am not talking about blended fruit flavored foo-foo here. If you are a margarita connoisseur like I am, you will be hard pressed to find a margarita in the valley that isnt a thick neon yellow syrup poured from a plasitc bottle. Solea's are the real deal and awesome! Also, do yourself a favor and start out with the cheese dip. Stick to your ribs good! read more

Please note that the Solea I'm reviewing is the one in Menasha. My fiance has been to the other one and he wasn't impressed whatsoever. I saw on yelp that the Menasha one had good reviews and the other one didn't, so I talked him into going to the Menasha one for another try. We both loved our food and service at that one. Our service was great. The food was excellent, and portions were huge. Everything came out quickly (chips, drinks, foods, check), and we were checked on by at least two different people, to make sure everything was good. It was SO good. Yum! Probably the best meal I have had in a restaurant in many years. I had one of their signature dishes, coconut shrimp tacos. It was amazing! Their house margarita was also top notch.
