If the taste of the food were as good as the presentation, it would have been worth five stars. A colleague referred us here and we were excited to find a good Mexican food place as I'm a lifelong Texan until last year and I know Mexican food, both TexMex and authentic. Sadly, it was near flavorless with the exception of the red and green sauce on my enchiladas. Hubby ordered a mignon chimichanga with cheese sauce and I ordered the enchiladas with red sauce, green sauce, and cheese sauce. Both of us had rice and beans. Hubby's chimichanga had very few pieces of meat but LOTS of grilled peppers and onions. The vegetable pieces were large and chunky. He only ate half of it and only had a bite of the rice and beans. Both of them were flavorless that might as well been microwaved from a pouch or can. The trio of enchiladas were ordered with fajita chicken. Each was covered with a different sauce. I tried all but only ate the cheese sauce one as it gave some moisture to the chicken and it wasn't so dried out. The green sauce was so acidic it almost took my breath away. Perhaps it was on the verge of needing to be thrown it. Rice had no veggies, barely pink in color and no flavor. Beans were creamy but again no flavor. Overall the food was super bland and not tasty at all. I'm unsure why people pay those prices for flavorless food. Perhaps it all goes back to the presentation...a smear of sour cream and standing chimichanga must be impressive to Appleton locals. Service was just okay. We had to ask someone else for help as our server was nowhere to be found. She did apologize and said she was folding silverware in the other room. It's a beautiful restaurant but they should redirect some of that money to hiring a chef who can bring life to the flavor profile of the food. read more

First of all, the ambiance of this place is impeccable. I don't know who they paid to do the interior design, but it was well worth the investment. The lighting was perfect and the music was catchy without being intrusive. In short, Antojitos nails the balance between trendy and original that so many restaurants strive for. It's not just a pretty face, either--they serve fresh, elevated Mexican cuisine that delivers on quality but doesn't skimp on the portion sizes. Their service is also unusually fast. Once seated, we immediately received a bowl of chips and three delicious dipping sauces. If the chips had been fresh, they would have been godly. Our appetizer, the sope, was superb, and our entrees--the bajio enchiladas and a chimichanga for entrees--were delicious and filling. They also have plenty of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drink options! We went with the virgin pina colada and the virgin mango margarita and enjoyed them. First time I came here I was very impressed with low hopes in Wisconsin for Mexican food. Atmosphere is great and service was also perfect. Enjoyed their 3 salsa options and the fajitas I had. Came back a second time and sat at the bar. Basically had to beg to get chips and got a cerveza Rita that was probably the worst I have ever had. Tasted like tequila water and beer mixed together. And came with very little of the tequila or water. Food was still good though. Just stick to sitting at a table and drinking beer. read more

My wife and I come here often, as it is one of the best authentic Hispanic joints in Appleton. The food is rich with flavor, the drinks are delicious, and the staff have been very friendly, and even when we had a long wait for food *due to it being extremely busy, which we totally understand*, our server then brought us complimentary pours of this amazing top-shelf tequila. I really enjoyed my experience here from the beginning to the end! Once we walked in we were seated off to the side of the bar. The little table with the most comfortable chairs I was impressed. Our waiter was very attentive he did a wonderful job wasn't too pushy and informative plus nice when I asked questions about the menu. First off, the margarita list is fantastic and I had one of the best drinks there I've ever had. The Maracuya. The second time around it wasn't as good - too heavy on the citrus. But I'd go back for just that. It was a busy Saturday night and it's a large restaurant but it was full. I waited about 20-25 minutes and a word of caution - the wait list moves quickly but if the bar is full you stand in the middle of walkway(s) awkwardly until you can grab a vacated seat. The front of the house is pretty loud; wouldn't suggest this for an intimate get to know you dinner. Energetic vibe, something to look at in every direction and darkened corners create a fun atmosphere in general. We were seated in the very back by the secondary bar (not active). Quieter but cool from the outside door being opened fairly frequently. The kitchen was quite backed up on this evening which our wonderful server did let us know about. We had the fiesta queso to tide us over (with chorizo) and it was very good. Plenty of chips sent our way without asking! I ordered the chorizo bowl and was a bit disappointed as all of those wonderful ingredients listed on the menu felt like they had been combined together into a bit of a mush. Flavors still there but just muddled. My son had carnitas tacos and thought they were good but just a bit on the greasy side (which feels like a thing at most places tbh). We were there a looong time - 2.5 hours in total - so I'm sure that is contributing to my "meh" review. Overall I'd go back to try it again, and add it to a fun happy hour option, but wouldn't be in a rush to get back. read more

Enjoyed my time trying a New Mexican place in Appleton. For a drink I tried the strawberry basil lemonade. The complementary chips came with three salsa dips. The chips were fresh and crispy. We also ordered the queso as a starter. For my meal I had two grilled shrimp tacos on the purple hibiscus corn tortillas. They were stuffed with toppings- so much that I had to eat some with a fork. The day we tried out Antojitos happened to be a day in which we were craving some Margaritas! We decided to grab food and drinks here and I'm so glad we did! We were seated promptly and didn't have to wait long at all for our food. Firstly, I appreciated the variety of salsas and bean dip offered with their chips. We each ordered a burrito and I was pleased to see they came topped with queso cheese! These burrito were absolutely delightful. To satisfy our Marg itch we decided to order one of their Margarita flights! We loved being able to try out a couple flavors of our choosing. We loved eating here! The options were endless and the food was delicious! The chips and salsa to begin with were so good and worth the trip itself! Then we got the burrito and a stuffed poblano. Once seated, we were given homemade chips and a trio of salsa, warm black beans, and another dark salsa. So good! My friend ordered the lignin burrito and it was HUGE! Packed with meat, onions, rice, and cheese, with a flavorful sauce to top it off. I had the Bistek ala Mexicana stew and it was outstanding. Big chunks of beef, onions. Expect to wait if you go during the dinner rush. Seating in the bar is first come first serve however. The bartender is really friendly and makes a mean drink. If you're a lightweight, be careful. They have MARGARITA FLIGHTS! How awesome is that. Pick 4 fun margarita flavors and have fun sipping them with a friend. The food is great! They start you off with chips and salsa. You get normal salsa, spicy salsa and bean dip. Bean dip has chorizo fyi but you can request vegetarian bean dip. They have a separate vegetarian menu which is awesome and it's a good list of items! If you're not vegetarian and you are HUNGRY, the molcajete is the way to go! It's a giant volcano bowl with all the foods in it but be careful it's hot! I always recommended this to my out of state clients for dinner. They have purchased the building next door so I'm anxiously awaiting the expansion. They don't joke around when they say it's spicy. I LOVED the bean dip. Chips were fresh and homemade. Thicker than your typical chip which added a nice crunch. I ordered the tamales and this is where they seemed to fall short. I couldn't tell which one was pork or chicken. The green tomatillo sauce was extremely tangy. The corn to meat ratio was proportionate, but the corn was a lot to chew through. I could eat straight up plates of the beans. The rice was ehhh-mushy. So this place is about 4 years old and I am 4 years late to the party. Came here around 1:45PM on a Saturday afternoon and a handful of tables are full. The food, the service, the ambiance, the QUALITY are all exceptional. How anyone can have something negative to say about the food here is beyond me. The trio of salsas is complementary. All of them outstanding. A cool twist on the typical chips and salsa. The margaritas were amazing. We have had both lime and raspberry.
